you guys may have already figured this out, but balon greyjoy was on stannis's kill list because they are currently raiding the north and part of the riverlands, and the iron islands declared their independence from the seven kingdoms the same way robb did. so by balon declaring himself king of the iron islands, to stannis that makes him a traitor to the realm and a usurper. stannis's whole goal is to eliminate all other "false kings" so that he can take what he believes is his rightful place.

Why Stannis named those people is because what is going on right now is called The War of The Five Kings. Renly, Joffrey, Robb Stark, Baelon Greyjoy and Stannis are fighting for power. Baelon attacked the North while Robb was fighting in the Riverlands. After killing Renley, the only people left are Joffrey, Robb and Baelon. Margery’s mother was a Hightower. The relationship between the Tyrells and the other families in the Reach your missing because it was in the History and Lore. But you can study the map to see where everyone in the reach is. Sam’s home is called Hornhill. Tyrells is called Highgarden. The Hightowers is Oldtown. Just like the North is made up of Starks, Karstarks, Umbers, Glovers, Boltons etc…Each area of the map has families that intermingle with others from a similar area.

Honestly the balance between religions in this show is kinda whack. The New Gods don’t do shit, the Old Gods give you visions sometimes, meanwhile the Lord of Light can control fire, raise people from the dead, create shadow demons, tell you the future, etc. Idk why anyone wouldn’t join the Lord of Light lol

Tbf, the Lord of Light is rather new to Westeros, whereas the Old Gods predate the Andals arrival to the continent and even the Seven, which were brought by the Andals, are still a few thousand years old. As well, magic did historically have a greater role with regard to both the Old Gods and the Seven despite there not being much in present day Westeros. This period we see in the show largely marks a resurgence of magic in the world. With this in mind I don't think it'd be surprising for many to first regard the Lord of Light, more or less, as some foreign black magic that they would rather be wary of.

Queen Margery mother was a Hightower but the Tyrell aren’t descendants from them. The Hightowers are a Noble house in The Reach, and loyal bannermen to House Tyrell, who rule The Reach from Highgarden. Hopefully the Tyrell’s make an appearance in House of the Dragon season 2 because The Hightowers are still the Tyrell’s bannermen back then as well. House Tarly (Sam’s House) is a noble house from The Reach as well. Check your map behind you. House Hightower seat is Old Town.

I don't understand the confusion about Stannis' targets with Melissandre's Blood Magic - the men he is going after have all declared themselves King of either parts or the entirety of Westeros. As he is the true king all of the others who claim crowns are treasonous and must go.

The show doesn't call it as such, but in the books this part of the story is called the "War of the Five Kings" with the Stannis, Renly, and the above three all claiming to be king of some part of Westeros. In this sacrifice, he names the 3 remaining people who challenge his title as king.
