Something cool I love about oikawas crazy serve is that the ball went over so fast by the time it hit the floor oikawa was still in the air. Like goddamn. If you pause it at the scene the ball hits the floor, oikawa is still mid air before he landing. Aint nobody receiving that😭😭😭

fun fact!! animator boya liang took 4 days to complete mad dog’s spike scene in ep 20 and she took inspiration for this from kageyama’s spike/jump serve scene in s1e2 the similarities between the two scenes and the quality are 🤌🏼 i just love that “harsh” style she decided to carry over from furudate’s style in the manga and also her fav chara is noya so yes GOATED thank you queen 💅🏼

No words can describe how much I love Iwaizumi JBWHJBJHB He is literally my favourite on the Aoba Johsai team, not just because he's amazingly cool, but also because he keeps Oikawa in line with the other third years on the team by insulting him, smacking him and teasing him the way a best friend would. Oh but Koganegawa (Date Tech's new first year setter) is so cute. The corners of his mouth are always curled up into a tiny smile HAHA Btw, just to answer all your questions about why Karasuno does certain things to counter the attacks from Aoba Johsai (like Hinata following Suga's advice to wait before jumping to block Aoba Johsai's quick, etc.): These are things that they've already learned about Aoba Johsai in their previous match in the Interhigh. Suga noticed that the timing of Aoba Johsai's quicks is slower than Karasuno's, so he told Hinata to wait a bit before jumping to block back then (season 1 episode 22-23 iirc). So Hinata just repeated that in this match, because he remembered the advice! Same goes for what Tanaka did, where he took note of how the people who don't do jump serves on Aoba Johsai's team will often aim at a tricky spot (where the setter, who has rotated onto the back line, will run up to the net when the whistle is blow for a serve, which makes it difficult to receive the ball at the point where the setter runs up and blocks his teammate's sight or reaction time to receive) and adjusted accordingly so he doesn't drop the ball like they did in the Interhigh.

Great reactions and predictions! Oikawas new serve was scary and so was Mad Dogs spike. I love how Daichi is all calm and collected on the outside during Oikawa's serve and then on the inside he's like, "What the hell wad that?" I'm so excited for the next episode reaction. I like how geks pointed out the difficulties of voleyball. When we start haikyuu, most of us think that voleyball is not that hard or a nuanced sport. But watching this show you just get insight how much effort and tactic goes into this. It's so easy to fuck up here, from too low toss to not receiving correctly. Every point counts and sometimes players have to fight nail and tooth for it

One thing I have to say this show NEVER gets too repetitive. Each team is so different with different tactics. and the same applies to the plot. Each season is about a different thing with new obstacles

In honour of reaching season 2 episode 20, when Oikawa first unleashes his upgraded monster serve, here's a fun thing that most people miss when reacting to his serve: Oikawa's serve touches the floor before he even lands from making the jump, which apparently, is a crazy feat to achieve. Someone in the fandom even calculated the speed at which the ball was moving using frame by frame analysis, and they came to the answer that Oikawa's crazy serve in episode 20 might be about 114km/hr (70.9miles/hr). And I was just in awe because that's so close to some of the best volleyball players in the world rn (E.g. Yuji Nishida from Japan's national team, whose peak speed for serving was calculated at 128km/hr or 79.5miles/hr). AND, Oikawa is 17-18 years old in this episode, whereas Yuji Nishida is currently 24. My mind is always blown how good Oikawa and some of the players in Haikyuu are portrayed Also...a lot of people like to call what happened at the end of episode 20 "the✨pencil sketches✨are coming out now". Typically, that style is used whenever there's something really intense going on on screen, like in Demon Slayer season 2 episode 17, when Tanjirou and the gang cut off Daki and Gyutarou's heads (that was also amazingly pencil sketchy)

"EVIL TRUMPET MUSIC" "EVIL JAZZ" 😂😂😂 That track is called "Kawashiya" or "Destroyer" on Spotify btw (composer: Asami Tachibana). Some say pencil sketches, I say it's more like calligraphy brushes. Like someone took a sumi or calligraphy brush and roughly did the outlining. Such a great way to demonstrate the ferocity of the spike. Haikyuu is definitely good at artistically showing an action to demonstrate how we should "feel" it.
