s1 and s2 are very different and both have their pros and cons but I personally felt more emotionally invested s2 because of character development (I’ve also read the manga so I know how the arc ends) but the opinion is so divided on which season people prefer, so I’m very much looking forward to how you guys will react lol

Honestly, I think season 2 is underwhelming 🤷🏻‍♂️ season 1 I thought was a solid 9.5/10 but season 2 I found it to be like a 7/10

season 1 I loved and, while season 2 is a shift I still really liked the first 12ep set almost as much. These past four episodes have been pretty meh for me with the most recent one a complete waste of time imo, but that's just me. Also warning from other chats, the conversations between if s2 are good or not get kinda heated lmao

i love season two, i think people that dont like it because theres very little action miss the entire point of the series and the characters. no fight in season 1 or in the manga will ever be as gripping as watching thorfinn grow as a person

possibly controversial opinion, but i’m preferring s2 much more than s1 due to the fact that i prioritize story, character development, and internal conflict much more than the stuff covered in s1. however, s1 is a great introduction :))

Aw I have to go to bed now but can’t wait to catch up tomorrow! In regards to which season we like best, hands down, it’s season 2. No debate for me. It’s interesting seeing lots of people not really like it when it’s literally the essence of the show so far. It makes so much sense so people not getting it is really confusing to me. S2 is amazing, beautiful work.

S2 it's pretty different, I'm not caught up yet (ep 14 rn) but the pace has been pretty slow. So far S1 is still my favourite but I still have more episodes to watch :)

It's early to say since season 2 still going on, but the way it is going I like season 2 better. I think it elevated the show to a unique place. Also, both Canute's cooking story and Ragnar's revelation gives more context to Canute's flip off to the Priest, "Every Father loves his own child." While the Priest is struggling with his relationship with the Father in heaven, Canute struggles with his relationship with his actual father. Father-Son relationship has been important to this show for example so far Thors-Thorfinn, Sweyn-Canute, Ragnar-Canute relationships provide dramatic weight to the story. And with this episode we see it covered in parallel with Father (God)-Children (humanity) relationship.

Dang… they are both great for DIFFERENT reasons. Season 1 has a lot more action (but still am amazing storytelling). Season 2 is heavy on storytelling and getting you hooked on the characters (for GOOD reason). But there is action happenings currently in season 2 (no spoiler). So it’s hard because they are both the same level of greatness in my opinion 👍🏾

Season 1 for sure. Don’t listen to everyone gassing it up, the story definitely drops off after season 1 😩. I read the manga too, it just gets more boring. Vinland Saga is a less engaging, less dark version of Berserk at the base of things.

Season 1 is good, but season 2 is better, imo. Season 2 has a simple plot, and has a slower pace than season 1, but it seems so much more real especially with character development/transformation (that one character). I’m invested with the characters in this season, and I’m a little on edge if anything happens to them. If you’re watching Vinland Saga solely for the action, then you’ll probably be disappointed with season 2, but the pace starts picking up about midday into the season.

Its tough between 1 and 2. I think nothing will top season 1's writing and the construction of the concepts and themes used in it. This ws one of those moments where even a genius like Yukimura will never be able to repeat. The whole series is very consistent and keeps a top level of quality for everything. Lets say that Season 2 is the most important Turning Point of the story and its where we set the rest of the series

S1 is more my style and i personally liked the cast more so i definitely prefer it, but i like S2 for what it does for the storytelling and themes as well that I could tell were being hinted at. S2 is enjoyable and necessary to really elevate the story into something unique, you just have to know what to expect imo.

The storytelling in s2 of Vinland Saga reads like a novella from literature, and you really need to appreciate the characters, and setting (symbolism of) to appreciate this season . For those that are wanting something fast-paced, I believe s2 is setting up the scene for later seasons (haven't read the manga).

Guys idk who told you the priest is Erwin but he’s not lol. Erwin’s VA is Daisuke Ono (he voices other iconic characters like Jotaro) The priest’s VA is Satoshi Hino. Y’all in the comments gotta do your research before spreading cap to these guys.

Oh i agree! Some might have to adapt to the slower-pace, but getting invested in the symbolism/themes is the essential for enjoying S2 imo. I got to ep9 of S2 and loved the writing, but decided to read the manga just because you can read as quick as you like.

I don’t know if someone pointed it out but Ranger in his final moments clutches his sword, which is a symbolism for dying like a warrior with a weapon in hand to reach Valhalla. Even though he is a Christian, his native culture is still strong within him.

Your liking or disliking of either season will depend on your reason for watching the show. VS is the story of the journeys of different characters. And obviously, there are highs and lows in every one’s story.

Imma real with you guys. S2 is very divisive because of the drastic shift in tone from S1. It’s a hit or miss depending on your expectations for the story, and personal taste when it comes to storytelling. At the end of the day, VS is an introspective slow burn narrative that is more character-driven than it is plot-driven. There is more emphasis on building atmosphere and emotional connections to the characters. It doesn’t offer the instant gratifications found in traditional shounen storytelling.

I’ve never seen it myself but my sister was telling me that season 1 is more action packed and season 2 is more storytelling. She warned me telling me that if I prefer action alone then I probably won’t like season 2 and that a lot of people tend to not like the latter season because of this. She herself loves season 2 and was telling me how amazing/crazy last weeks episode was 😭 I do love both storytelling and action but I’m predicting that I will like season 2 more. I’m also gonna guess that some of you guys will like season 2 more seeing as how in previous shows when a backstory would come up you would get so excited. 🤭 I can’t wait!

Vinland sagas whole issue is that it peaks in the beginning and becomes completely boring later. You’ll find out eventually.

They are very different but if you want a genuine answer, personally I prefer S1 because I like action and cool fights but if you prefer an emphasis on character development, then S2 will be your favourite. Without spoiling it, don’t go into the next season expecting crazy action like this season. S1 is the prologue and the real story begins after it.

I think there are some people who prefer the storytelling in the second season. As someone who studied a little bit of literature in college, I can tell that the manga artist uses quite a bit of themes and symbolism in the second season, and he actually intended Vinland Saga to be an anti-violence anime anyways.

@celery Most of it is anime original so people cannot argue that it was needed. It took a full episode to do something that could have been done in 1/3 of the time. Before you say I don’t understand the meaning behind it or something uh yes I do but my point is they could have gotten it across without spending the whole episode on it. I can’t say specifically but there is a different character with similar amount of screen time that was way shorter and way more impactful whereas this one just made me waiting for it to end. Yes this is an opinion we can disagree

That’s cool that he intended that. But ultimately it doesn’t make for good story. The show is never going to be as good as it was in season 1 again. If you like it, you like it. Plenty of people like demon slayer and that show is the blandest of the bland.

S2 is where it’s at! But like everyone else said it becomes more introspective and the character development really starts. There have been multiple episode thats are so beautiful written and are so emotional. I can’t wait to see what y’all think!!!

Personally, I love season 2. Season 1 put me onto the show and I’m grateful for that but the immense character growth and how evident the themes are in season 2 separates the kids from the adults.

Never seen Demon Slayer. Vinland Saga has toned down story wise. It's still good, but nowhere near as good as before. The manga became unbearable. You seem like the kind of NPC who enjoys watching paint dry. Have fun w that.

Ragnar really saw everything in Canute because he raised him and saw him as his own son. Even in his last moments he just wanted to see him one more time. It's really sad

the reason the show can feel slow midway through season 1 is because there is actually a lot of subtle plot building and character building going on you just cant rly see it the first time watching through.
