OH MY GOODNESS.....these episodes were some of the most intense and suspenseful episodes Ive ever seen. We were so shook after this. I dont know whats going to happen for the rest of the show now lol

one of the best episodes ever created. Also I think the foot drying scene is reference to a bible where Jesus cleaned Judases feet, before Jesus was crucified because of his betrayal. 'Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, he laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him'

It's hard not to be a little bitter about it. Not only did light have everything playing in his favor from the entire notebook magic and everything we talked about before, to Rem playing along and lying to L while literally willing to do anything for Misa, who in turn would literally do anything for Light. The guy literally rolls a net 20 on every occasion with his luck. But L also has a much higher standard, the way he kept Misa locked was inhumane and we can't ignore that but he had cutting evidence. L had a strong suspicion of Light since like episode 3, had he played by Light's morals he would've had him killed immediately as a "just in case". But to the very last moment L did not take the law into his own hands, even though he knew he could save himself by having Watari or whoever get Light. L was exceptional and unparalleled, and while Light is no slouch himself, you can't just describe this arc as "two geniuses went at it and Light won"

i watched all of death note up to this episode in about 2 days, I binged the heck out of it, but when L died I felt so damn flat, I think I took like 5 hours off before I started again which was a long time during that watchthrough

It’s kinda dumb though. Light yells out loud in a public place while twerking on L’s grave lol. Some of the Relight scenes are sus. They weren’t cut out though, it was for a movie that condensed the anime episodes into one 2 hour long special with some new scenes.

the reason killing watari had no effect is because remember shinigami can shorten lifepsans whenever they want, because thats their purpose and how they survive (since they get the remaining lifespan added onto theirs) but they cannot kill someone to lengthen someone else's life span. killing watari had nothing to do with misa's lifespan (or anyone elses) so it had no effect on rem

What's interesting is that L washing Light's feet is a parallel to Jesus washing Judas's feet right before he betrayed him. In Death Note there are a lot of bible references in general.

I love how this episode was written and directed — I’ve been looking forward to your reactions! The rain and foot-drying scenes were actually anime-exclusive. The anime made it more implicit that L knew of his impeding death. I know some manga readers thought these scenes were unnecessary and contradicted L’s character, but I thought it was a poetic way to conclude L and Light’s rivalry. The scenes make L’s death all the more depressing because of how easily he accepted that there was nothing he could do to prevent it. I was not familiar with the bible so I missed the biblical reference when I first watched it. I thought the foot-drying scene was highlighting their power dynamic. Light was in a higher position (literally and symbolically) at this moment. It looked like L was conceding defeat and Light was reigning over him — much like a slave and a king.

Love the comments guys, these episodes were incredible. I personally think it was such an amazing end to the light vs L arc and don’t see any reason why we would want to stop watching or be upset by it!! Episodes 26-27 and the Vinland episodes will be posted tomorrow!!

True, even in episode 24, Misa takes a bite out of the apple that Ryuk gives her before she makes a deal for the Shinigami eyes. She literally takes a bite out of the apple from the Shinigami world, like Eve.

L was amazing right from the beginning, literally fighting against supernatural forces and giving Light a run for his money. The whole point of Light changing the ownership of Death notes was also quite clever. Light's DN (let's call it DN1) was originally Ryuk's (or at least what he claims) when he dropped it in the human world. When Light picked it up, Ryuk was bound to follow Light, the new owner of DN1. Misa's DN (call it DN2) has the shinigami Rem attached to it. So what Light does before he forfeits ownership of DN1 is, he changes the shinigamis attached to the DNs in such a way that Rem is now attached to DN1 and Ryuk is attached to DN2. As a result, Light's own DN1 is then given to Higuchi by Rem and Misa's DN2 is buried somewhere in a forest. Light knew that eventually when he would get his memories back, he will be attached to Rem, and Rem can be manipulated using Misa. Ryuk on the other hand is truly neutral and will not be helpful either to the investigation team or even to Misa. Through this transfer of ownerships, he ensures that Rem remains away from Misa and can be used to do Light's own bidding, which Ryuk would not have done anyway.

Rem killing Watari and L is a giant plot hole imo, unless I'm missing something here. So L's current objective is to check the validity of the 13 days rule - if that rule turns out to be false, because the guy they're using to write in the Death Note doesn't die after 13 days, Misa and Light are under suspicion again. This is what prompts Rem to kill L. But Misa or Rem could just kill the guy after 13 days and it would make the rule seem valid, no? Meaning Rem has no logical reason to kill L here, unless we assume she can't make that conclusion, which would undermine her previously shown intelligence. Also hate how she goes into a different room to write their names in as if to hide her actions, when it's clearly just to have a situation in the plot where Light can get to the Death Note before anyone else sees it.

Killing the other guy would still have prolonged Misa's life by preventing them from discovering the rule was fake, and killed Rem. Rem doesn't want Light to lose to L, which is why Rem kills L and also why Rem makes it easier for Light to find her book - if Light loses, Misa will either be executed or kill herself, so it's not a plot hole for Rem to help Light win, even if it costs Rem her life. Does this make sense? Also, I love your pfp, Rem(RZ lol) is my favorite anime character

While I agree that Rem killing the guy 2 weeks later might still count as her prolonging Misa's life, I think Misa can easily just kill the dude herself? She has access to a Death Note along with the Shinigami eyes, so Rem doesn't have to be the one doing it. And nice, she's my favorite too :D
