In the next village over, the people who essentially owned a lot of it rented out several houses. One of the renters went on an extended vacation for about a month. When they returned, they had a £5000 electric bill for the month. This was in the early 2000s. The renters looked around, found an industrial extension cord tapped into their house running over to the next house that the owners were building. They took some pictures and promptly moved out, breaking the lease and refused to pay the electric. When the owners took them to court, the renters showed everything to the judge and their history of averaging £50 a month in electric. The judge ruled in the renters' favor.
