I'm working on support removal, priming and painting for a ton of the minis Miguel made those first two weeks of training. I've finally caught up in printing something like 15 Duergar, Eladrin, and others and they all turned out great :)

Starting tomorrow I'm going to share photos of how they turn out as I remove supports, prime, and paint them. I'm going to start with the Duergar Hammerer and Duergar Screamer but we'll see how fast I get through them. 

Modeling is Miguel's favorite part of this hobby, so I hope having all of this non-modeling stuff taken care of by the time he gets back means he can really jump right back into doing the work he likes best & that y'all benefit the most from.

Looking at the above pic inspired me to try printing with the model raised with supports. Always had a bit of trouble getting the model off of the bed in my resin printer (Elegoo Mars).

I love the cartoon. A future storage shed full of shelving for little figures. :) That's a beautiful print. I wish my support game was at that level.

I've found the thin layer at the printer bed can be pried up just by pressing the scraper to the edge and lifting up a bit, at least enough to get the scraper under it. Once you're under you can gently run the scraper around the edges toward the middle and it always separates with a gentle pop, instead of flying off after hacking away like they used to when Miguel had them direct on the bed.

Also printing tilted back at a 45 degree angle is great for human faces because you can print all facial features without supports, including open mouths, chins, etc.

Miguel uses the default support builder that comes with the photon and usually just tips the mini back a bit and sticks with whatever autogenerated supports it gives him. It can sometimes cause a lot of support merges on complicated minis but it works for us lol

hey, I love printing my minis, but easily my biggest complain is that I have to make my own supports. (SuuuuUUUUuuuucks) The program, Creation Workshop, does makes supports, but it doesn't know how to do it well. Is there a chance you could add "supported" models?

Right away? Nah, Miguel doesn't have the time and I don't have the skills. Maybe in the future? Absolutely. It's a great idea for "added value" for people who become patrons. Thanks for suggesting it! -Jen

2023-04-01 02:07:15 Hello. I recommend you give Cura a shot for supports. I could make supports for every model, but remember I don't print all the models I make and most are in resin. So to do this right I'd have to also print everything I make which will slow things down greatly. Plus I don't have enough storage lol.
