Happy Saturday Ali cats! I hope your weekend is starting off well :) Above is the art of our recent hobbit girl. I’ve been playing around with my art style lately, mainly the eyes haha! I’m still trying to incorporate some things but I want to integrate more of an old 2000’s aesthetic since that time period of anime really resonates with me. So far I’m having a lot of fun and hope to evolve it more as time goes on ^_^

The second image is a preview for next week’s YouTube character. It’s a monster girl that was suggested by one of you- a jumping spider (how cute!) :P The idea of giving her heterochromia eyes was given by a comment on YouTube. A listener mentioned what it would look like if a spider had different colored eyes so I rolled with it ✨

Since I’ve been on a nostalgia high with LoTR and my art I figured my song suggestion this week should follow that theme too! This one comes from my old emo favorites- the music makes my ears feel good :3 Feel free to post song recs of your own! ❤️

The spider girl looks super cute also I think heterochromatic eyes are super cool personally any character with them looks stunning. I love how every character you draw has different unique eyes they all suit them so well I can definitely see what you’re going for with the 2000s look and it fits your style so well. I’ve been listening to Shinzo Wo sasageyo while working out this week idk why but it just makes me wanna work harder. Hope you’re having a great week Ali!

I HATE how if I go and bring up one of the pics, everything i typed gets wiped out... lol But my weekend is starting off well! Hope yours is the same ^_^ I'll be listening to the hobbit audio soon, and you can really see the aesthetic you're going for! Oh!oh! Is this the spider girl i mentioned months ago??? And that youtube commenter knows what's up, heterochromia is just plain awesome, and I'm honestly jealous of those who have it IRL. Also, meant to mention this on the hobbit audio, still probably still, but are you on a LOTR high because yesterday was J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday? :P also ...i know the band... not sure if I know the song.. guess I'll have to give it a listen :P

2000's era animation is a heavy hitter for sure, and your little halfling is very adorable. There's always something extra endearing for me, I think, when a character has more subdued or 'natural' colouring in a world where so many anime characters have ultra exotic colour palettes. Kinda stops me and makes me think, awh, I have to protect this cute little brown-eyed baby. xD A lot of my 'favourite' shows are technically older, but I am easily drawn into things by good-looking animation, so I know where you're coming from focusing on the eyes. I have legitimately been drawn into watching entire series solely off clips where the eyes won me over. It seems I have a preference for eyes with strong shading and dark catchlights haha~ Jumping Spiders are precious little babies. I don't tend to have issues with spiders in general, but the little jumpies are especially cute. They get the special favour of always being picked up and carefully put outside. I'm sure all the Alicats will be extra kind to this spider girl, too. :3 As for my musical offering for the week, hmm... If the running theme is nostalgia bombing, it's honestly a really difficult choice~ Without uh.. Going *too* far back and outing myself as an ancient being of time and shadow, I'll recommend Reol's version of 'Cry of the Lost One', or 'ロストワンの号哭 '. It's more or less emo adjacent, so it matches up! Haha~

If your interest in spiders (jumping spiders specifically) there's a really cool video by veritasium just about their eyes sight and how they see. Could be interesting, or mabye you can use it for inspiration for a second video of the character idk.

Happy Saturday to you too! As for my weekend, well I'm going through one of life's many trials lol I've learned a lot more about the healthcare system in the last few weeks than probably most of my life. Got no choice but to power through the pain until my appointment with a specialist next week, I'm building some mental fortitude 😤💪🏼 I don't really know much about drawing, but I'm trying to learn. Slowly but surely. Eyes and mouths seem so intimidating for a novice. The 2000's were an interesting time for animation, there were so many different styles. I think my favorite show from that era might be Gurren Lagann. I think looking at something like Spice and Wolf and it's remake from last year is an interesting way to see how anime has changed and the artistic direction it has gone in. She might be cute, but I don't think I can trust anything with an extra set of fangs :P Her eyes kinda remind me of the old school 3D glasses. A neat detail that I really like is that if you incorporate a choker, it's always a different design. I'll answer nostalgia with nostalgia. Plug in Baby by Muse Seems fitting since most of the stuff brought up have been from the 2000s

I liked how 2000s anime had so many distinct styles, so many of them now just kinda look the same. I don't really have a nostalgic song, but I've been listening to "All eyes on me" by Bo Burnham, it's not really my type of music but I really like this one.

I’m alive! (Against my better judgment lol) I decided to step back from my online life since I was finishing up a class, working through Christmas, buying a new car, and visiting my sister for New Year’s. Finally got back home yesterday and things are getting back to normal. Looking forward to catching up on everything I missed Loved the song rec, Fauna’s graduation was yesterday so I welcome all the emo haha

Ahh, 2025. Not only will it be then start of the "Generation Beta," but also will be the year of the snake. I'm interested what will come to be and which snakes I will forc- I mean ask politely to cuddle with. I was imagining the spider to have like rainbow colored eyes just so that we could've "tasted the rainbow," but good old red and blue will do nicely. Honestly, I can't be one to judge though because I love me my Arachnes and Spiders. For the song recommendation, I'm going with one that I found again that was recommended from my older brother. I liked the guitar in this one and the song in general was pretty cool. Prayer of The Refugee by Rise Against.

I managed to avoid an ear infection that was appearing 2 days ago and I hope it'll be gone for good :sob: The 2000's anime has a great vibe to it, even tho I was too young at that time + my parents were not into that so I haven't watched a lot hehe, but I rly love ur art ! It's really cute and loveable and I'm looking forward to future improvements ~ My song rec from this week will be a song I've spammed some months ago, it's quite old but I've discovered the band last year only and I rly vibe with it ! I hate that too and it’s especially bad on my iPad when I’m swiping to scroll 💀 As for the spider, this one is a different one but I haven’t forgotten about yours! Spiders are popular choice but I’m not complaining :P I had a friend in school who had heterochromia and it was beautiful! I was always so jealous. Ngl, I didn’t know Tolkien’s birthday until you just now mentioned it- but now I do so thanks! :D There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to rewatch the series. Probably the cozy vibes I get 😊

Hope you’ve been having a good weekend!! I avoided getting stuck in the snow driving home thankfully 😅 work forced us in today in the snow storm but I PREVAILED AND MADE IT HOME!! HAHAH 🤣 I haven’t had a chance to listen to the hobbit audio even tho I’m really excited too listen lol (will most likely listen to it tonight :) ) but I will say you put so much love into that artwork (not that you don’t put as much into the others but you know what I mean 🤣) it really stands out and pops out to me idk how to explain it but you can tell you really enjoyed drawing it and i can really feel like the cozy and wholesome vibes from it XD I’m not the greatest and trying to explain LOL. I will say tho I can def see the 2000s aesthetic come through like you were going for, also I love the background you chose as well! I really like the colors you chose for the heterochromia, reminds me of those ICEE freeze drinks I used to get when I was younger XD. I’m excited to see how you’ll work in the jumping part of the jumping spider tho🤣. I love the design of her as well! You always do such an awesome job with the characters you create :D. I Wonder what kinda personality she’ll have :P Since we talking early 2000s and anime how about an opening from an anime I was thinking about rewatching, opening 1 from Fairy Tail. Similarly I’ve done that based on one character’s design- I just had to know more about them! I’m not a fan of spiders IRL but I have to admit that jumping ones are little cuties! I mean, how could anyone look into those eyes and not go “aww~” :3 lol Oh man, I had a suspicion that I had heard this song before and it was about 1:30 in when she goes, “just who is it?!” That it all came flooding back to me. I love this song! Thanks for reminding me so it can now go onto my playlist! ^_^

Healthcare can be so tedious to deal with so I hope everything works out for you 🫂 As for drawing, that’s really awesome to hear you’re trying to learn! :D Apologies if you told me before but do you have specific things you enjoy drawing or would like to? I think the Spice and Wolf example is spot on with how much anime has changed. I do love a lot of newer anime styles but something about the old ones just grabbed me a little harder. It could be nostalgia or a mix of that and personal preference. Either way, anime has gone through so much over the years! Can’t go wrong with a Muse song, definitely a blast from the past with them. I know it’s probably their most popular but I can’t hear their name without singing “Time is Running Out” in my head 😂

The 2000s had so many unique styles! I do like a lot of newer ones too but there’s quite a bit of series that look similar. I may have used this term before but some animes now have that “copy/paste” feel. Where you watch one and it looks the exact same as the one you finished last week 😭 Oh damn, he’s a comedian isn’t he? Ngl that song came off a little sad (in a good way, I like that stuff). Yeah I’m loving the car, it’s a 2025 Subaru Outback Onyx Edition and let me tell you, the tech jump from a 2013 car to a 2025 is INSANE lmao, but don’t worry about my bike, she isn’t the jealous type. She’s just taking a nice rest through these brutally cold months, can’t wait for a warm day to hop back on though, riding is seriously addicting! Visiting my sis was my break, now it’s time to get back on the grind. I missed the gym! I’ve only gone once in like two weeks so I’ve been fiending for it haha

Lol I think that's the first time I ever see that emoji. But thank you. Besides the pain, it's just the anxiety of not being told what's wrong and being redirected so many times that can be mentally crushing. And then being told not to work off the stress, shit sucks. Sorry for being overly negative, I know I'll be fine but talking and writing has just been the most therapeutic thing right now. I've been trying to bother and annoy others way worse :P Nothing specific comes to mind, I've just been wanting to learn a new skill. Originally I wanted to learn to play an instrument but learning to read music first didn't sound like fun. Then I thought about adding another language, but that's no fun if you have no one to practice with. With drawing, I know I can start enjoying it right away (and I am) and in time others might be able to appreciate it. Sure I think fan art of stuff would be really cool down the road, but I'm trying to keep myself grounded for now lol And don't apologize if you ever make me repeat myself or forget anything. It won't hurt my feelings, I've said it before but your community engagement is insane. I know you go through a ton of messages both here and on YouTube. First of all, love that song lol secondly, I kinda know what you mean but it's a different song that pops in my mind when I think of them. Supermassive Black Hole comes to my mind right away because of the freaking Twilight movie. I don't even like the book or movie!

Thank goodness you made it home safely! It snowed where I live today too and thank God I have the next little bit off. I’m pretty sure the roads are going to be icy in the morning and I’ll be damned if I’m driving in that 💀 Please be safe out there Berry! Thank you so much for the art comment too, that really means a lot to me! ❤️ I really did enjoy myself drawing this one. I always try my best to have fun but this one was different. It may be the fact that it was a hobbit or that I’m playing around with my style more; either way, I did enjoy myself a little bit extra this time! ^_^ Believe it or not Fairy Tail is one of those animes I never watched! I’m not really sure why though because I’ve never seen anything that turned me away from trying. I think at that point in my life a lot of things were going on (moving/uni stuff) and maybe I just never got around to it? Either way that song is so good, I really liked it!! The singing and music were very catchy ✨

As a few others have said, 2000s anime aesthetic and animation was the best. Maybe I sound like a boomer, but I think we really lost something as more computer graphics were incorporated into animation. It's like a sledgehammer. It has to be used in limited amounts and with purpose. I'm still not a fan of spiders, but I'm willing to give this one a chance after the flight attendant was so nice and comforting. Irl, jumping spiders are usually the only ones that don't make my skin crawl. Wow, it's been a minute since I'd listened to Funeral For A Friend, but it's like riding a bicycle. The angst comes right back xD I always liked how they were a little less screamy than some other bands of that era. I have nothing against that, but sometimes it's nice to have variety. Also, understanding lyrics without looking them up is kinda nice, haha. I had a really hard time picking out a rec for this week. Not sure why. I felt like my mood was going in a lot of directions and, consequently, there were a lot of songs that appealed to me. I finally settled on Passing Through (Can't the Future Just Wait) by Kaden MacKay. Musically, it's a little outside of what I typically gravitate to, but I think it has some really cool lyrics. It kind of ties in to what I was talking about recently too.

100% on that take! I think digital graphics and additions are great but feel that they are relied on a bit too much sometimes with anime nowadays. It’s easy to lose originality when it’s being done with everything and the artists’ style starts to deviate from the source material. I personally really like those series where you can see someone drew the frame! Omg, your comment about being able to understand the lyrics without looking them up hit hard 😂 Can we all just admit that a lot of screamo songs are like that? lol. Oh man, I really liked your song this week too. The lyrics were a good balance of emo but positive at points and I really enjoy songs like that. I think it talks about very relatable feelings too. This Hobbitgirl is absolutely lovely and I love Jumpingspiders. We have a lot of them here where I live. They are very smart and you can interact with them when facing them. Theyˋre using there Legs to talk to you and these are the only Spiders known to recognise Humans. If you see one donˋt squish them,please!😉 I really like this Artstyle!😊🫶🏻
