So how did everyone here feel about yesterday's video? It's getting a lot of negative criticism in the comments and since this group probably follows my videos the closest I wanted to hear what you thought.

Many people feel I didn't spend enough time talking about the company's shady beginnings and various scandals over the years. I guess that I was irresponsible in my approach to the video? Maybe just read some of the comments if I'm not describing them well enough.

I was actually pretty surprised to see that reaction since it wasn't at all the video I set out to make, I just wanted to talk about some smart marketing and factors that lead to financial troubles, pretty much what I do in every video. Honestly, I stand by it and disagree with these criticisms but there seems to be a lot of them so maybe I'm off here? What do you think?

I thought you treated the subject with tact. You gave enough information for the viewer to do their own research while staying appropriately neutral. The Youtube comments section is notoriously toxic -- they'll find any excuse to start fights and get angry. I'd take their criticism with a grain of salt.

I think you're going to see a lot of these types of comments when you get close to the keywords, "Terrorist", "Crimes", etc. I don't know where this world is going, but it takes very little to stir an audience into a major furry of "fighting words." I don't think you really want to go too deep into 'Shady beginnings.' You'll find yourself and your presence on here being labeled. I think it was a great video. I would ignore the remarks.

I would love to hear more about the company, but didn't think your channel was the proper avenue. Maybe just link some other videos in the pinned comments or description.

They’re trolling you. You’re a business channel that touches on those dramas but doesn’t focus on them. It would be cool to see something that wasn’t done as a school project that is focused on their earlier years but you nailed it for your subject matter. Plus that was more of a socioeconomic subject and not as much of a corporate brand subject.

That's exactly how I feel. For the record I wouldn't be opposed to tackling some dramas like that as long as it wouldn't cause a huge political divide.

It's a thought but I think YouTube has some strict rules on what you're able to link from your channel I get always get nervous and never link anything.

Personally I think you talked about the shady-ness enough, any more and it would have been “okay get on with it”. You’re a channel about companies and their financial endeavors and sometimes the scandals that help explain what happened with the company. If they wanted to see the insanity in a video they should watch Sam ‘O’ Nella’s video haha. I think you mentioned enough, but I’m proud that you took the time to consider the tiny minority of criticism rather than ignoring it :)

If you go down that road, you can’t come back. It might make for a good Friday video so it doesn’t step on your current videos. Plus you can aggregate “other people’s ideas and reports” and not make yourself judge and jury. Call it Behind the Scenes or Extra Content.

Appreciate it Victor. I actually consider the criticism probably way too much. Unless someone seems needlessly insulting or appears to have negative intentions, I'll take the comment to heart.

I'm actually somewhat in agreement with the criticism. You can't mention a company like Chiquita without mentioning that they overthrew entire governments with U.S. backing. I get that you have a very different idea of what your channel is all about, and this was very much a judgement call, but in the world we live in you can't divorce politics, economics, and society. Having said all that, I think that you tried and I was happy to hear you mention you were open to making a follow-up video going into more detail about the topic.

Saying I can't talk about one aspect of something without mentioning other aspects is something I don't agree with but I can respect the opinion. There's no ill intent on either side so I'm cool with it.

While I would have liked you to talk more on the subject, I recognize that it's not really your wheelhouse, and I suspect a lot of the people leaving these comments aren't regular viewers, and so probably had a completely different set of expectations (I mean. You made it through four episodes on chocolate companies without really discussing the slavery and child labor allegations involved in cocoa harvesting. It's just not the focus of the channel.). That said, I'd absolutely love to see more videos on the open secrets and noted crimes of various companies, altho I recognize that would probably be swinging at a hornet's nest and I'm not sure how much you'd want to deal with that.

I thought it was a good video. I'm not interested in the subject, but you kept my attention and I learned something, so that's a plus, As for the criticism, far too many people have far too much time on their hands and will complain about everything. People are always going to criticize. It doesn't mean you have to change anything, but the fact that you acknowledged it says a great deal about your character.

companyman

That's kind of the point. Practically every company has some shady things surrounding them. There was even a YouTube channel called Brand Sins that focused only on that. I personally never liked the channel because I just hate focusing on the negative all the time.

Appreciate it Chris. I can understand people will have different opinions from myself or take issue with something like this. I can respect that, just as long as it's different opinions rather than just me being in the wrong.

I don't understand the backlash you're getting. The video was well produced and researched, and it followed the same style and content focus as all your other 100 videos.... the focus being the company marketing/branding/strategies/finances/debt/bankruptcies that lead it to it's rise/growth, and it's downfall. I don't expect anything political, it's not a politics channel.
