Hey everyone!  Here it is - my reaction to RWBY Vol. 9, ep 2!!!!  Well, we're definitely starting to put some things together about where we most likely are...even though Weiss isn't handling that level of nonsense very well lol.  It was interesting getting to see more of the world we're in at the auction!  It wasn't neat and clean, but Yang did manage to get her arm back...and Penny's sword, OMG!!!!!  Watching Ruby without hope is just gut wrenching!!!  I can't help but think that maybe this journey will teach us something?  And who knows what will happen along the way?  Also, Ruby's speech at the end :((((((((  This is gonna be an emotional season isn't it!  Great ep!
Enjoy!  ~ MH

I second the interpretation that what Jinxy asks has to be given up. (Alyx wouldn't just have told her happiest & saddest memories; she would have forgotten them.) Yang knows what it is to feel loved, and it's more valuable to her than this arm—fitting, since it was her love for Blake that cost her the arm she was born with.

The score sounds amazing when they all talk at the end, feels really old school RWBY just seeing them in the forest that looks like the forest of forever fall, i do have a thought that maybe cresent rose is with the king, just because its his birthday someone might have seen it an with cresent rose being red maybe the person who found it gave it to the king.....maybe, i am really reaching here lol alsomone other morsal when weiss tells ruby that the info about penny was a lot to hear, we hear a thunder noise, i wonder if that meant ruby was more angry then sad at that point, then naturally rain is when shes being sad. xxx

Darren

Someone may have mentioned it before but Little is Voiced by Fria who was the old lady in V7 who once was a winter maiden :O

Hi Hime :) OK, I've been a bit crazy with my theories (even if I'm keeping them in the back of my mind), but so it seems that the girl in the intro is the Alyx the fairy tales are about. One of the other ideas I had was a kind of guide for our heroines, since she often leads or precedes the girls, but then, if they replicate what Alyx did, it makes sense. Just like the "big sister" of the portrait at the end of the intro, which is very Alice there too. Weiss was so cartoony in this episode, so adorable. It's good to see that despite what happened, she tries to keep smiling. As she says, the house where she spent her childhood disappeared, the town where she lived, the life she knew before Beacon was completely destroyed, it is not a light thing. The legacy of her grandfather, what she had been fighting for since childhood. But fortunately, she is our dear Ice Queen, a strong, independent and warm woman (despite her nickname). Ruby on the other hand, our ball of hope is completely broken... And even if it pains me to see her like this, I think it's a necessary step. She was the leader who saw everyone on the bright side, who pushed everyone forward, supported everyone, she was the anchor of everything we had, never resting, without anyone holding her. almost by hand. It's time for her to take stock of herself. Nora said she needed to find out who she was without Ren, Ruby needed to find out who she is period. I just hope that when Ruby's down, Weiss will be there for her, because Yang and Blake already had their moment with her in the previous volume, Ruby and Weiss need theirs too (and after Ice Queendom, I still want more whiterose). Speaking of lesbians, I knew you'd appreciate the bee moment. Yang seems to have regained some of her early humor (high five), humor that has rubbed off on Blake, who as an avid reader is thrilled to be inside a fairy tale. In general, I think that this trip will restore the good energy of the group a little, while allowing them to breathe a little, they really need it. Otherwise, Penny's sword, disguised as a green puppet... Subtle subtle. But Ruby's speech was really beautiful. And as you noticed, the island seems to react to emotion, but especially Ruby's... It remains to be seen why.

Christopher Pope

Also, if you ever get a meet-up together, I'm sure some live-in-person hugs will be in order after this volume.

Luci Christian. Who also voiced Little Miss Malachite in RWBY6, btw. Also the English voice of Uraraka in My Hero Academia.

John J Ronald

My gut reaction was "ooooh, that's too steep a price."; I'm glad Yang was able to get the arm back by other means.

John J Ronald

I love that Yang, after everything, still has enough humor to enjoy f*cking with people using her prosthetic arm in tasteless ways and as a prop for dad jokes.

John J Ronald

Weiss is trying to apply cold logic (get it, because Ice Queen?) to their situation but winds up just tied up in philosophical knots. Blake, the literary book nerd definitely as a better handle on how to navigate this bizzaro world, and Ruby agrees, asking Blake for pointers on what Alyx did next in the story so she can pick their next course of action.

John J Ronald

I'm surprised by reactors who don't pick up immediately that the green sword was Penny's.....she had to magic several of them into existence using her Maiden Powers when she briefly forgot she was a flesh and blood human without access to her remote controlled metal blades....it was the fighting style she knew best and so she improvised to try and take on Cinder. Also, it's not just a green doll, it's a green Marionette....a Puppet...y'know, like Pinocchio? And yes, it's probably true that Penny's body fell here, too, but I don't think CRWBY will actually show us that....at most I think the Islanders who discover her will give her a proper burial and point the gravesite out to RWBY later if they discover her fate. Did y'all notice the townspeople were mostly 2 dimensional, shaped like boardgame pieces? Some were shaped like little toy people and the King's troops were all "Toy Soldiers" riding "Toy horses", e.g. painted sticks with a plush horse head at the top. Also, I heard a rumor that Jinxy the Raccoon is voiced by the same guy who did that satirical "This is basically RWBY" video out there (which I never liked and thought was a little mean spirited).

John J Ronald

Thankfully it reacts to Blake's positive emotions as well (the ray of sunlight at the end of last volume, signalling the end of the rain shower).

“Guys, we’re at our lowest point.” Me: Well… yeah, I mean… they fell a REALLY long ways! Something that you don’t pick up on in the theme unless you’re REALLY quick: the one shot Jaune is in. There are clocks behind him… but there’s something interesting about those clocks. They’re Roman numerals. The clocks go from 1 to 10. But instead of an 11, there are two 12s. There is no eleventh hour. As far as what this means, the eleventh hour is defined as “the latest possible time before it is too late.” If that’s the case, and that time doesn’t exist, then what? Ruby and Weiss both start to try and put this together logically - and fail miserably, right about the point they get to the talking mouse. Weiss in particular seems to be having a very difficult time. I have to stop here and shake my obligatory can of bug spray at you, it’s a requirement. But, in all seriousness… or not… Yang got her arm stolen by a talking raccoon. Which makes me think of another talking raccoon from another comic based universe that sent his friends to collect people’s robot arms because he thought it was funny. Guardians of the Galaxy, anyone? There’s an interesting exchange between Ruby and Weiss when she reflects on what happened and her home being gone now. Ruby says “You did everything you could.” On the surface that seems fine. But think about it. She didn’t say WE did everything we could. She feels like she failed everyone. More on Ruby’s state of mind later. So there’s an interesting little blurb Little said when they were building their “house,” and that was to find a purpose. They’re very big on that. Also, I know you don’t watch dub versions but fun fact, Little’s VA is also the English VA for Uraraka in MHA. Thought you’d get a kick out of that. Team RWBY is really perturbed when Little tells them that even if they tried to return to the village, they wouldn’t know how to get there. A story only moves in one direction. Yes, you can rewind or flip the page back but it doesn’t change what happens. The only way to progress the story is to… and this was somewhat unintentional this time… keep moving forward. Jinxy is very interested in emotions, and it seems that emotion Carrie’s quite a value in this place. Hugs are valuable, and of course, what are you, if you don’t have any emotion? That’s why Yang lost her bid initially to the soldier, when they said the price was giving up what it’s like to feel loved. You can take that however you want, of course, but that’s not something someone like her would want to give up, not after all she’s been through. Speaking of emotions, when Ruby bids and is asked for “enough hope to fill this jar,” he tells her you don’t have enough, do you? This is probably the biggest red flag. Ruby is losing hope. There are a myriad of different theories as to why this is happening, but the very fact that she’s being called out on it is really telling, considering all we know about her. Little sneaking on stage and taking what turns out to be Penny’s weapon, just reaffirms what they said earlier. “Nobody steals, they just take stuff when no one’s looking! Fair is fair.” Speaking of one of the more funny images of the episode is when they all escape the auction. Yang is stupidly happy, Blake is freaking out, and while Ruby is still processing what Little’s found, Weiss is just walking off the set like “I am NOT with any of these people.” 😂 The sight of Penny’s weapon causes a full on storm on top of RWBY complete with thunderclaps. I’m thinking of an episode of RWBY Chibi where Ruby was hanging out with Qrow and his Bad Luck Semblance caused it to rain on just her now. Coincidence? Meanwhile, Weiss is so done and I love it. I mean she IS my favorite of the bunch, but the girl just hit herself with a rock. Im just done. She is, too, but in a different way. I mean, I SAW it coming and I still couldn’t stop laughing. 😂 Ruby decided to follow the book and offers Penny’s weapon to the soldiers, but in doing so she actually delivers her eulogy. Keep in mind, she never got a chance to say goodbye… so this is probably her way of trying to process everything that happened. I’ve noticed that in the first two episodes, she’s only smiled three times. And they’re all when she’s been looking at Little. So Im wondering if the mouse will have something to do with her recovering. There was an interesting line regarding this fairy tale, though. Oscar mentioned it: “I never understood why she was so sad when she got back home.” Ozpin said “she wasn’t the same girl anymore.” I think what is happening to Ruby is accumulative. I had a theory, about a year or two ago, that Ruby was showing her usual positive self as a front. She started out wanting to be a hero, and help others, but given the events of the past few volumes, her resolve is sinking. Every time something bad would happen even back as far as the end of Volume 3, she wouldn’t process it. She’d deflect it by going on to something else, the next assignment or objective. While it’s an understandable defensive mechanism, holding all that inside yourself is not emotionally healthy. Ruby has put off facing her own demons for so long that they’ve now gotten to the point where the weight of her actions and their consequences is literally crushing her spirit. Penny was probably the straw that broke the camel’s back. Now when there’s nowhere left to run, all those feelings she refused to acknowledge or deal with are coming back to bite her. It’s great to be such a positive person as she has been, but she’s refused to let her other emotions out and now she’s paying the price for it. She needs to learn: Sometimes it’s okay to not act like everything is just fine. It’s okay to hurt, to cry, to feel pain, things she’s been running away from up until now. “Do you ever wonder why we’re here?” Wrong series, Melissa. :P I realize I’m writing a looong comment again, but I usually can’t help it with this show. But there’s one final thing: In Volume 1, Ruby yelled to Weiss “At least I don’t pretend like I know everything.” At the end of this episode, she told everyone, “let’s stop pretending like we know what we’re doing.” If that doesn’t speak volumes, then what does? I think, overall, Ruby NEEDS to break down like this for the sake of her own emotional health, and she’ll be better for it in the long run: but boy, it seems that girl is in more need of a therapy session than a lot of people realized. …Looks at post - why do the RWBY comments always turn into essays with me? 😂

Manny

Lol I love Weiss she’s the ultimate Squidward in this situation. Just will not put up with the malarkey xD

Spadeas

I think it's still related to Ruby, if I remember correctly it stops raining when Ruby asks Blake "what come next", so when she stops being sad and starts moving forward .

Nathan Poulain Cigrand

Well...seems like Miles didn't lie, feels are gonna be heavy ^^ Little theory I don't remember seeing in comments: what if Jaune is the knight with helmet we see in the opening? Hiding his face in shame, keeping the body of a "sleeping" girl....Gosh let's hope I'm wrong >< Worry not, we'll all stick together to survive this volume ;) Loved your reaction, gonna wait your next one, see you soon :)

kamenriderhime

Yeah I'm not sure I understood that exactly when watching the first time, but it makes sense. Also thanks for the hugs Chris!!!!!!! We could all use them after all we've been through on this show lol!

kamenriderhime

Yes, definitely feels like RWBY!! Oh good theory! It would make some sense! Interesting about the thunder too, I'd imagine it would evoke a mix of anger and sadness for sure!

kamenriderhime

Yeah he wasn't kidding!!! It's gonna be a heavy one for sure! Ohhhh I like that theory! It'd be sad but it makes a lot of sense! Thanks for sticking with me for this one hehe! And I'm so happy to hear that! Hope you love my next reaction!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

If that's where the sword is from - the fight with Cinder - that means I only saw it briefly which is probably why I don't remember it. Much as I'd love to, unfortunately I can't remember everything. :P The marionette makes so much sense! I thought the townspeople looked like flat Legos lol, good point that they're 2d. No kidding, I had no idea he voiced Jinxy!!!!!!!

kamenriderhime

Hi Spadeas! :) It's easy to get lost in some theories right now right! Lol Weiss! She's being so strong! She's lost so much :( Our ball of hope, such a good way to phrase it, it's heartbreaking to see Ruby this way! So true, this is the time for Ruby to really learn about herself. Sometimes it's our greatest tragedies that show us who we really are. I hear you, I think Weiss will be very attentive to her for sure! Bees!!!!!! <3 I love seeing it, and I agree about Blake having more of a sense of humor. The green marionette, omg! Yeah I agree that this place seems to be reacting to Ruby's emotions, although maybe it will react to the others' as well? Not sure! There's lots to unpack though!

Spadeas

I'm just going to add, because I thought about it in the car since I listen to RWBY music there. But Ruby so depressed may also be possible ONLY because she is surrounded only by her team. Since volume 4, she is not only the leader of team RWBY, but of everyone, she had to keep a smile for everyone. Now that she is with people she fully trusts, she can afford to drop the mask.

Bryan Forquer

Blake and Yang were less than an inch from holding hands!!! I swear if and when they finally kiss I am going die!! ❤❤😭😭😭🖤💛🐝

2023-03-03 02:44:59 This is such a good episode and reaction. I always thought the girl was going to be Alice of this world but I do think the other theories were interesting & creative. I am also very worried about Jaune and how he is doing emotionally especially because the girls won’t know to look for him. And we don’t know what he is facing in this world. I don’t think Ruby would actually blame him for what happened but I am worried that when she learns exactly how Penny died since Weiss either didn’t know what happened or chose not to tell her I feel like she might end up lashing out. I am always excited for this show but your excitement is infectious & wholesome. I love how excited/happy Blake being in 1 of the books she loves so much. It’s sad that Ruby the girl who believed in the ideals of fairytales back in volume one doesn’t want to believe in a real life fairytale right in front of her. Weiss may be logical and no-nonsense but all logical arguments fall apart in the face of this world. Weiss is so done this episode and her little freak outs are hilarious & adorable. The wide sweeping shot of the Ever After is impressive and I love how different all of the areas in this place are. I like that Blake has detailed knowledge of the story while the others have general knowledge. The little voice crack when Weiss screams who is amazing. I like the different art style when Yang talks about how Jinxy stole her arm. I love the bees moment so much especially how much more comfortable Blake is in general and the little bit of teasing. The pun is so good. I love the physical interactions between the 2 of them are so wholesome/adorable especially the almost hand holding. I like the idea I saw that now that their relationship seems to be moving to the next level they are out of sync because it’s all new and they are not sure how exactly to act. I hope the rest of their conversation that is too quiet to hear is posted somewhere I’m sure it was very cute. So sad that Weiss has lost the dream she has had for so long to redeem her family’s name & company. However she has not lost everything she still has her family and I believe she will find another way to make her name mean something. It hurts that Ruby believes everyone else did everything they could have but that there was more she could have done. I don’t know if it was deliberate but people think all the areas in this world might be called acres which could be a reference to the 100 acre wood. I love the girls reactions to Little not knowing how to go home especially Blake being like this is the most adorable child I have ever seen & Ruby having an existential crisis realizing they accidentally kidnapped a child LOL. Little’s song is great and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the script or if the voice actor improvised it. It’s fun that all the townspeople are game pieces and the stores also have names related to games like dominoes. This auction is fun I like the whole disguise/illusion angle. I think the prices confirm that emotions are very important in this world and can affect the environment. It’s funny that when she hears follow your heart Weiss is like gross. I thought Yang was hesitating with the price of her arm because of baggage with Raven but it makes a lot more sense that these prices will literally take the feelings away. Yang feeling love thanks to her team is not something she would trade away. It’s messed up that the item connected to Penny is represented by a marionette when she became so much more. It sucks that Ruby doesn’t have a lot of hope but I think it implies she still has some hope. I like that Jinxy sounds empathetic towards her because of this. Ruby can’t process getting upset seeing the sword but also seeing how happy Little is to have helped. Also I love Weiss walking away slowly like the Queen she is. Also you want a high-five MH? LOL. And then it’s depression hours with Ruby our girl is really going through it. It’s very interesting that they have to follow the story. After seeing everything this episode I am convinced that of the main girls the 1st one to say a major curse word like fuck would be Weiss. Let her say it dammit LOL. I think Blake is giving Ruby hope which is why the sun comes out. Also I think this is the most serious I have heard someone say we want to go to the birthday party. I can’t add anything to Ruby’s eulogy for Penny but it’s beautiful especially with the music she deserved something so beautiful. Ruby is taking control but it also seems like is just going through the motions. I think the others are realizing something is wrong but don’t know how to bring up the topic of Ruby having trauma. It’s worrying but I know they will be there for her. Little really is her therapy animal. Also if anything happened to them I would kill everyone in the writers room & then myself is a comment I saw that I very much agree with. Some stuff makes me think the story has already happened and will be similar but different this time. The rest of the volume promises to be very interesting. I saw some people say that CRWBY wouldn’t go as far as to show Penny’s body and I’m like have you met them and I am scared of that. I think Ruby will be going through a lot of character development this volume more than ever before and I agree with you that I think she will be a stronger person because of this journey. She is at a low point but I do not think she’s at her lowest point yet which is scary to think about but I am curious to see where she will go once she gets there. Your discussion was profound & interesting. Some people who watch this show make bingo cards of what they think will happen in interesting ways. I don’t know if you would but would you ever want to make a video like that also do you watch others reactions to RWBY? I can’t wait for the next episode as well. Here’s a short comic I think you would like found here https://twitter.com/JumJamz/status/1629957646210981888 . Awesome reaction & discussion. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

That's awesome, nothing better than listening to RWBY music in the car!!! :D That's true, excellent point that she is just now at a point, with her friends and family surrounding her, that she can just let it out and feel the grief!

Lol we are LITERALLY at a low point :P Oh wow!!! I may have seen a brief glimpse of the clock but did not put all that together...maybe it's representative of how Jaune feels it's too late for him? Or that they were all too late to save everyone?? Not sure. Yeah traditional logic won't apply here, much to Weiss' chagrin. LOL I knew you'd be out here with the bug spray! I think I'm immune at this point! :P HAHAHAHA well we have a DC/RWBY crossover, if they ever wanted to cross over with Marvel, there was their opportunity right there! Such a good point about Ruby's wording there. Little has mentioned purpose a few times now, that's true. LOL I heard about the VA being the same one as Uraraka's English dub!!! That's awesome! Oh wow, good connection about how they literally can't go back in the story. Right, I thought about that after that all of Jinxy's prices were related to emotion. I don't think I realized at the time that Yang would have to give up that feeling vs. just sharing it, but it makes sense that she wouldn't want to give that up! Haha yeah Little was just living by the law of the land I guess! HAHAHA Weiss!!!!! She was awesome this episode! It cannot be a coincidence that something similar has happened in RWBY Chibi!!! I'm definitely starting to get on board with the coma dream theory for that show lol. Ruby's eulogy was beautiful, and good point that this is the closest thing she's had to closure. OOF, that line from Ozpin rings really true now. I think that theory about the cumulative effect on Ruby makes a lot of sense actually. We've watched everyone go through something and deal with it and come out the other side except her - she's just always solid as a rock no matter what, until now. Maybe this journey will end up actually being good for her like you said, as painful as it is. Lol that tends to happen when we're talking RWBY I guess!!!!

Thank you so much!! And omg, I know, I'm worried about Jaune too! I think eventually Ruby would not hold it against him but she's not in the best state right now either. Aww thank you, I'm so glad my love for the series comes through!! And I know, someone as full of wonder as Ruby can't even enjoy this, it's really sad. So many great moments for everyone in this ep, I agree!!! The pun lol! The Bees stuff was great and that's a great point about Weiss! LOL oops, guess technically they did take Little away from their home as a kid haha, the song was so incredibly adorable too! That's such a good point about the possible Hundred Acre Wood reference! It's so sad to think Ruby is feeling that they tried so hard and it didn't make a difference and/or there's something else they could've done. Yeah I think the prices actually remove the feeling or whatever, that makes sense! Oh I know, the marionette thing makes sense but also isn't really accurate since she was so much more. LOL High Five!!! XD Hahaha I think Weiss would probably really like to say the f word about now, btw the cartoon was hilarious hahaha!! Good point that the sun comes out because of Blake's words to Ruby. Also the eulogy was just everything. Hahahaha Little had better make it for sure!!!! I would die for that mouse! Also I agree that the bunch will get Ruby through this. That's the thing, I think they might absolutely take it there and show Penny, and I'm terrified haha. Never underestimate CRWBY, that's what I've learned :P Oh reactions to reactions sound fun actually! I thought about doing something like that after getting current but didn't have enough time. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and again for your patience!!!! So sorry about taking so long to get back to you!
