SOS Bros React - HunterxHunter Episode 118 - The Pearly Gates

Wow. A couple of beloved characters almost bit the dust this episode. But thankfully we have (so far) avoided casualties. Even better, Youpi stuffed himself on Knuckle sandwiches and now Killua's here!! What did you think of the episode? Leave your thoughts in the comments below! Do you run an excel sheet with all the future sentences my lord?

Absolutely loved the part where Knuckle was running away after getting the hits. "Crap, I almost died!" and whooping and all lol That was hilarious.

Nadeem Shaikh

At the end go the fight between Killua and the darts sibling in the cave, just before he lost consciousness he does mention that thsi fight has given him inspiration for new moves.

Waluigi

Can tuesday come fast enough?

You gotta love youpi❤️

As much as I understand the narration and pacing during this assault, I gotta say - this episode was incredibly slow. The continuous monologue by Knuckle removed any tension from his looming death for me.

Jaime Ruiz

Does anyone but me prefer Gon over Killua? Every time someone talks about HxH their favorite is always Killua and I get it, but come on.

Thilde

I'm sure some people do. It makes sense for people to prefer Killua though. Over time he becomes more sympathetic than Gon. His character arc in general is just better (imo)

Are-eem

well~im natural,i like both for different reasons

Watcherdude65

I like both as well and I think they purposefully serve different points in the story. The thing I always found impressive about Hunter X Hunter is that it could have it's cake and eat it too. It could both subvert classic shonen tropes and moments and also embrace them with the right buildup making the cliche's work. To me Gon is an example of the classic wild boy shonen protagonist with his emotions on his sleeve and a dream in his heart and the story shows the negative side of that kind of steadfast ideology. Killua on the other hand is an example of the brooding bad ass rival initially but ultimately transforms into a more emotionally expressive character. That I think is the key reason why more people prefer Killua, since he has that character growth while Gon remains much the same. That being said I'm not calling Gon characterless, in fact there is quite a bit of depth and subtly beneath his bright exterior.

Cristal C

I love Killua, but I prefer Gon too. The previous comments made some excellent points on why most favor Killua, though.

Cody Enos

I'm with you! I love Killua, and one reason I love Togashi is because he gives everyone, even side characters, their own personal arcs, but Gon is the main character. He was the reason I continued to watch and still love it because people constantly underestimated him and his subtle arc.

Woodsie89

Gon and Killua are definitely neck and neck for my favorite character, but I think Gon edges out Killua in the end. I agree with Cody, in that Gon's character arc was much more subtle then Killuas, and one of the reasons for that is the fact that we very rarely get to see inside Gon's head. With Killua, we are always getting inside his head, how he feels, what he is thinking, and so his arc feels more fleshed out. But with Gon, we are mostly left guessing what he is feeling, or thinking a lot of the time. So you really have to pay attention to all the subtitles of his character development.

Ezutess

The fact that it was so slow made me think he was gonna die. I was thinking of the time slowing down before death thing the whole time.

Watcherdude65

As someone who enjoys analysis I can agree with Gon's subtly being more enticing as something to dissect. Not to take away from Killua's excellent character development and many fantastic moments but as stated previously you get into his head by necessity during the story. Meanwhile a viewer can take Gon at face value and still enjoy and understand the series or be rewarded for combing over his interactions and discerning his thought process as the story goes on.

Zainali

no offense i know its getting old, but i need the wah..

frederik wøhliche

the reason i love both characters equally is how both of them seem to steer more and more towards each others previous emotions as in gon goes from the happy go lucky kid that just wants to see the world and help people to a more sinister and emotionless kid out for revenge where as killua starts out like that and goes more towards gons helpfull and happy nature

frederik wøhliche

can we just quickly give probs to a show that managed to make a intro that is always the same yet i never really feel completely tired with it and dont mind listening each time XD

Jay Hunter

But Killua’s thunderbolt had the same stun effect on Rammot... and his nen has gotten much better since then

Jay Hunter

Honestly it’s because Kil gets everything. Kil gets the badass moments, the outfit changes, the sympathetic backstory, the cool demeanor, the lightning nen, AND the most character growth. He has no real flaws that make him unlikeable. He’s gotta be togashi’s fav

Watcherdude65

While I agree Killua does get some of the best moments I think he does have plenty of flaws and emotional baggage to work through. While his flaws don't necessarily make him unlikable except perhaps his bratish nature in the very beginning of the hunter exam I think they are definitely there.

Watcherdude65

I think the little changes and visuals do wonders to make it entertaining each new arc despite being the same general song

Watcherdude65

Yeah but I can understand not realizing this since Killua purposefully didn't use his lightning much during the mission so there aren't many recent examples

Anthia Grant

I personally prefer Killua over Gon but just a little bit. I do love them both and they're both fantastic characters in their own ways, but the only reason why Killua sticks out for me a little bit more than Gon does is because Gon is a little too selfish. He is more likely to act on impulse in the heat of the moment and not fully grasp the consequences of his actions or he does think things through but ultimately decides to go against his better judgement and do something foolish just to satisfy his selfish needs. Doesn't mean I don't love his unpredictable nature since most of the time we don't know what he's thinking really. Even though Killua is my personal favourite between the two, I do love that they both balance each other out so well that you can't really think of one without the other. Their friendship is so strong and beautiful and fantastic that it's one of my main reasons why I love Hunter x Hunter so much

Jay Hunter

Most people liked Killua or at least found him interesting in the first arc despite his bratty nature because of his badass moments and skill. And then, once the Illumi thing happens, he gets the sympathy too. From that point on, it’s like he’s being geared toward being everyone’s favorite

Yagi di Hoshi

I just /kinda wish they woulda at least switched it up only slightly & used the Galneryus version of "Departure!' for the Chimera Ant arc. Would've been glorious~

Derrick C. Shields

And there's also the part where that is just what electricity does to someone. I don't care if you're Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, you take a taser in the spine, you're going down. Well, maybe PCP might help you with that, but my point is it's a nerve reflex. You can't "tough out" electrocution - at least, the "stunned" part - any more than you can a neurotoxin, especially if you're taken completely by surprise. Royal guard or not.

Nox

Nah, I just rewatch the episode the night or morning before they post to pick something out
