I love this movie. This movie is the definition of an underrated hidden gem. Can't wait to watch it.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

What's truly fascinating about Frank T. Hopkins is that nobody knows 100% how much is true. Since his memoir was not published until after he died. it's safe to say that anyone who was present at these events was dead by the time people started asking questions. The few things that we do know is that the Lakota people do not claim him or his family. There's no record either of his parents were a Lakota and the Lakotans were actually outraged that he made the claim he was part Lakotan. The other thing is that the curator of the Buffalo Bill Museum has no records of Frank ever being part of Bill's Wild West Show, however there is documentation that Frank was part of the Ringling Brothers Circus in 1917. As for the rest, all we have is Frank's word that it happened. There's some historians that say he's a con-artist and there's some that believe every word. Could it be the Lakotans were too proud to claim one of their own married a white? Could it be that the documentation of Frank's employment with Buffalo Bill was lost? Or did he take facts and spruce them up a bit because nobody back home cared he won a 3000 mile race in the Middle East? Maybe he had delusions of grandeur and wanted to be more important than he was. It's ultimately up to you what you believe. Fact of the matter is, it's still one hell of a story. And that's what I see this film as: one hell of a story, and I love it for existing. Thanks for watching, thanks for your reaction, and I'm so glad you got to experience it!

Thank you so much for this one! I haven't seen it i a long time and i've been missing a great horse movie. I grew up with watching the Black Stallion (1979) and this one gives me not only nostalgia for it self but for the movie as well.

Never even heard of this film. Unfortunately it’s not available on any of the streaming services here in the states.

kaiielle

Oh really? I'm surprised it's not on Disney+ like it is here in Canada.

I've heard of this. Twas on the shelves when I worked in the rental biz. Don't... think.... I watched it. 🤔 Plenty of opportunity to. I could easily have as it wasn't a popular choosen title from memory. If I find the time, maybe I will. Sorta backed up atm. Reaction wise I mean. 🤣

Thanks. Found it. Looked on JustWatch and it didn’t appear.

kaiielle

Thanks again for the request! And appreciate your thoughts and comments here. Seems like this is another instance of "Catch Me If You Can" in that regard.

kaiielle

I haven't seen that one either! Should note it for a future reaction at some point or at least just watch it on my own.

DarthChef

Other horse movies you should take note of are "Seabiscuit" and "War Horse", directed by Steve Spielberg.
