Happy NEW YEAR! Almost....hours away, WOWOWOWOW! 2025 seems so futuristic! I honestly don't know if I am ready! I hope you all had a calm and bright Christmas! We got home from Canada yesterday and I am so grateful we got to be there with all my family, especially my brothers new baby, a little baby at Christmas just makes everything sweeter! I was sick for the majority of it, and still am which sucks but we are all used to it at this point right? haha I am on antibiotics for what they thought was a sinus infection but just not getting better....womp womp! I'm sure I'll be oh so healthy in the new year though ;)

Carly and I talked about our new years resolutions and 2025 movies coming out in our podcast episode here if you want to hear more about those! Overall I just want more peace-less worry, more presence-less screen time, more connection-less consumption. I would also love Justin Bieber to tour again, Jenn and Brad to get back together and Utah Hockey Club to win the Stanley Cup ;)

What do you want more or less of in 2025?

I have been trying to make a video of my top 10 movies I watched in 2024 but it is alas, impossible, so I gave up.

This first week back we are starting with a western, sci-fi and romance? Sounds like a good one to me! As I have been planning this month and year I am so excited to get to some great movies. Start some new series, maybe get more quirky movies, more classics, more broadening horizons but also more of what I love. Its going to be great! What should our first poll be in 2025?

This month will also be our first POPCORN PICK A FLICK! Today is the LAST DAY to enter your pick and I will do the drawing this week! four day drumroll plllleeeaassseee.....

I also wanted to let you know I shared a Starbucks gift card barcode on YT community page, please go get a coffee or treat on me! I'll do a patreon only one soon as well! Just the teeniest tiniest way to say thank you, one day I'll figure out how to give back more to you and say thank you in a way that feels big enough!

Thanks two thousand and twenty five percent for being here and for your online friendship! Cheers to the best one yet!

Happy New Year everyone, Iā€™m sure it will be another great one with PiB if less so in the real worldšŸ˜‰

Chrismyster

Hopefully the timeline hasn't been broken and we're in 2025 šŸŽ‰ See you in ST into Darkness.

Cliff Endicott

So happy you're getting to "An Officer and a Gentleman". It's my second favorite movie of the 80s.

Josh Middleton

Please react to Wicked (2024) as its now out on digital!šŸ˜Š

Philip G.

I say just make a quick Instagram reel of your top 5 movies you've watched we don't need an entire YT vid

Mark White

Happy new year Cassie šŸ„‚ Canā€™t wait for these, great movies! OMGā€¦Clarence is going to loose his mind AOAAG!! šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜‚

Luke Godfrey

I soooo canā€™t wait for Star Trek Into Darkness. šŸ˜œ

Grad

"What do you want more or less of in 2025?" More drama. Less scraping of the 80s and 90s nostalgia barrels.

Anthony Carlson

Letā€™s do this! Happy New Year folks!

V M

Oh God, Justin Bieber. no. Thanks for the Starbucks gift card. I'm nowhere near a Starbucks though. Hope you feel better soon Cassie. First poll of 2025: V M's favorite movies. Second poll of 2025: V M's favorite movies.

Ginko

Happy New Year everyone!

Mark White

Cassie, itā€™s January! Thatā€™s means Australia day 26th!! PLEASE oh please tell us itā€™s going to be Crocodile Dundee 2?!

James UK

Happy New Year all.

Above Average Dave

Good Health to you in 2025, Cassie! Thanks for watching more than 400(!) movies with me while I grunt it out on various cardio machines. Honestly, if it wasn't for you, I'd probably bail half the time or more. Cheers!

Byrd N. Hand

I'd rather Utah's NHL team get a proper name before winning a Stanley Cup. I vote for 'Blizzard,' 'Freeze,' or 'Ice.' All other names I've seen suggested sound incredibly minor league (just like the Seattle Kraken šŸ¤®).

Art of Free Speech

OMG!!! It's happening!!! It's finally happening! Officer and a Gentleman! I'm so over the moon! If I weren't so exhausted from doing a New Year's Eve trike ride, I'd dance a little jig! This was the movie that made me want to go to flight school and become a military A-vi-a-tor! (and I did!) As I like to put it, this is the ultimate combination of guy film and chick flick!

Neighbourhood Watch Alliance

An Aussie poll: The Dish (2000) The Castle (1997) Crackerjack (2002) Crocodile Dundee 2 (1988) Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) Dead Calm (1989)

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, it would be nice if she could significantly improve her taste in music the same way that she has in movies. šŸ¤”

Cole Jennett

I like the Blizzard too, not to mention all the DQ advertising they could get out of it. Not a fan of the Yeti at all but that seems to be the odds on favourite.

aarswft

Idc what anyone says. Into Darkness is straight gas and Cumberbatch elevates everyoneā€™s performance

Dan M

The first line up for 2025 looks great, Cassie! Thank you, thank you! What do I want more of, less of in 2025? More compassion and empathy, and less reliance on AI and the internet, especially in the school system. Letā€™s get back to reading more books and imaginative writing without the use of computer programs. Happy New Year to you, Carly, Ben your entire family, and the entire PiB community! šŸŽ‰šŸ„‚šŸ’• Happy New Year

Byrd N. Hand

I'm generally against pro sports teams being named after fictitious creatures or extinct animals (which is why I object to the Toronto Raptors as well) -- as well as them having cartoonish logos (I'm looking at you, Baltimore Orioles).

Jakob Rygh

Outlaw Josey Wales is one of my favorites, also can't wait for Into Darkness

Gray

I agree it's gotta be Crocodile Dundee 2

Happy Hanukkah

You had me looking up Beyond the Spider-Verse, which I learned might not be released until 2027. And a third Dune movie is still in the script-writing phase. And yes, it would be nice to create some nostalgia for the next generation to mine.

Above Average Dave

I lived in Nova Scotia for two years (right on the Northumberland Strait). To this day, my friends from there still call me "Dave the American" except for this one guy who was convinced I was from Calgary. šŸ¤£

Cole Jennett

Iā€™m sure she doesnā€™t know whoā€™s in the movie so talking about the cast before she watches the movie is a spoiler. Look how well she reacted to the casting surprises in Star Trek 2009!

Cole Jennett

Do you really think watching movies on the channel has made her love her old favourites any less? The teenage years are formative, nothing is going to change that

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, just as Di$ney doesn't fundamentally understand Star Wars (and now Doctor Who as well) and Amazon doesn't fundamentally understand Tolkien, Bad Robot equally doesn't fundamentally understand Star Trek. And I pity those who can't tell the difference. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Cole Jennett

Wow, I bet living there has become so much more exciting the last few years!! I want to visit so badly

Happy Hanukkah

Wishing a happy and healthy new year to all. "Start some new series" So long as you (please please please) don't succumb to the trend of switching to TV shows at the expense of movies. "Thanks two thousand and twenty five percent" I was told there would be no math. :-)

Nim

Happy new year Cassie. May the new year bring you all the mini eggs, chocolate covered cinnamon bears and peanut m&m's you desire šŸ˜‰

Bill Maurer

More of: "The Searchers". Less of: Not reacting to "The Searchers". Pretty simple.

Bill Maurer

Outlaw Josey Wales is a great, great Western. This and "Shane" sit behind "The Searchers".

Samuel Champ

Happy New Year Cassie! Three really good movies! Little surprised you haven't seen Officer and a Gentleman yet. I think it may be right up your alley.

Celeste McAllister

You're absolutely right,a little baby boy made Christmas '24 very happy and special, happy new year to the Family PIB! šŸŽ‰šŸŽŠāœØļøšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

You pity those that canā€™t tell the difference? They are probably the happiest people on earth because they enjoy everything!šŸ˜‚

aarswft

Heā€™s on the coverā€¦ none of the ā€œsurpriseā€ actors were on the ā€˜09 cover.

rtt143

Awesome lineup , thank you!!! Happy New Year

Phil Stubblefield

Happy New Year to the entire PiB family! šŸ„³ I'm right with you in one way, Cassie: I was fine until Christmas night but have been sick as a dog since then! I guess that means the odds are pretty good that our health will improve in 2025, eh? (See what I did there...)

Cole Jennett

You are right about that, but if she doesnā€™t see the cover? Thereā€™s just no reason to post a potential spoiler days before she watches something. You could easily edit your comment.

Bill Maurer

Happy 2025 to All !!!!!!!!!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I work at a supermarket very near to Wrexham Football Stadium. On some Saturday afternoons, while I'm outside pushing trolleys, I can hear the roar of the Wrexham football fans watching a match. There has also been the odd occasion where I've been stuck in traffic driving home due to finishing a work shift at the same time as a match game finishing and the fans driving home!

Stick Figure Studios

Happy New Year, Cassie. Looks like you're getting it off to a great start I've actually never seen AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, so this will be a first watch for me as well. INTO DARKNESS is a movie I'm sure you will like, but you're going to hear a lot of pointed (and valid) criticisms of it in the comments. It's the weakest of the Kelvin trilogy, but it still has its fun elements. OUTLAW JOSEY WALES is another one I think you're going to ultimately enjoy. Some consider it Eastwood's best western. I would still choose UNFORGIVEN myself, but JOSEY WALES is excellent and was actually the number one movie at the box office the week that I was born. Can't wait for that reaction. Looking forward to reactions to more great films/franchises in the coming year. :-)

Neil Varma

Happy new year šŸŽŠšŸŽˆšŸŽ† be well šŸ¤žšŸ™ā¤ļø

Celeste McAllister

Now I've read your comment,I'll have a DQ Oreo cookie Blizzard.šŸ”šŸŸšŸ„¤šŸæ

Cole Jennett

Iā€™m sure there are some negatives too, lol. But interest in your town has to be at an all-time high and that must be pretty great! Nothing like town pride!šŸ˜Š

Celeste McAllister

'True Spirit' 2021 is an inspiring Aussie true story,Roger Ebert would have liked it! šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ––

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) would be a great reaction for February 14th/Valentine's Day due to the main story occurring on that day in 1900, and would also mark the 125 years since that story event was set!

Robert da Spruce

Happy New Year Cassie, Carly, Ben, and the entire PiB family! All the best in 2025!

Mike Lemon

"...don't succumb ..." Like say, devoting 20-30% of the time to one franchise for 10 straight months and only stopping because of Halloween? Less long series and franchises, more movie variety, maybe a very few short series or mini-series (NOT Shogun 2024, that thing is awful).

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Wrexham is an OK place to live, there are some rough areas but where I live has a lot of nice, picturesque countryside for lots of quiet walks on a day off.

V M

It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have.

Celeste McAllister

Disney needs to do better, the way they mistreat employees and a financially disastrous year, example being 'Snow Woke'. šŸ‘ŽšŸ‘Ž

Boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, hah! Boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, hah!

GƔbor Ɓrki

Happy New Year! Just two hours left until 2025 here. I have to admit, Iā€™m a bit anxious about what this year might hold for us. So, I would want people to start focus more on building common ground that can bring us closer together, and have less of the things that grow our divisions even deeper. In PiB, Iā€™d love to see fewer series and more movies than in 2024, especially more of those hidden, underrated gems. For my first poll suggestion, how about a Rowan Atkinson movies poll? Heā€™s turning 70 next Monday, and this could kick off a new PiB tradition of celebrating some significant anniversaries of actors and directors with dedicated movie polls. Alternatively, maybe a poll or bracket from Christopher McQuarrieā€™s Letterboxd.

Carol_White

Jenn deserves better than Brad.

Nim

I know we're not supposed to talk politics but I'm following the example of our Irish neighbours when they inspired the boycott of South African goods in the 1980s. Cadbury is on the BDS boycott list.

Cole Jennett

If thatā€™s what you think about hockey, then you arenā€™t watching hockey.

Clay F

Nice lineup. Thanks.

Anthony Carlson

I heard it is heavily suggested that the new name will be the Yeti. No s, just plural. Like the Utah Jazz.

Chris Thom

That ship has definitely sailed. She deserves to be with someone who won't leave the second he gets cast with some hot new actress. Maybe someone older who's ready to settle down and really commit? Possibly someone with kids?

Chris Thom

Happy New Year, Cassie and Kernel Company. 2025 has kind of a rad ring to it. Thanks for making last year absorbing, and thought provoking and FUN. Good times!

Chris Thom

Dang I keep thinking that's a joke. But it's actually not this time...

FranciscoGios

I just want the NFL Cowboys to win the Super Bowl and few reactions of my favorite movies from you and of course from sister Carly. Happy New Year Eves!!!

Chris Thom

Still think there's a chance our main timeline is still in 2015.

Chris Thom

Carly got me intrigued, not gonna lie. Just not enough to spend money on it right now.

Chris Thom

Still scratching my head about that one. Mary seemed pretty hurt by it.

Doc Larry

As I mentioned on YouTube a Poll of Canadian actors who work in America Ie John Candy, William Shatner, Michael J. Fox Rachel McAdams Jennifer Beals Etc

V M

The Cowboys didnt make the playoffs, or even have a winning season.

Chris Thom

Thanks for reminding me. Have been meaning to look for those chewy cinnamon bears on Amazon.

Chris Thom

I do seriously worry that all the careers with live able wages will be in tech soon. Really don't think everyone can or should be cutout for that kind of work.

Daniel Karlsson

Happy new year! Wishes for 2025: Start going through the top10 requests, Interstellar and no more Trek.

Joe

Looking forward to this line-up. The Outlaw Josey Wales is my favorite Clint western. I suggest a 60's sci-fi poll in January.

Clarence Newman

You've been drinking, Daniel! I'm sure you meant no Interstellar and more Trek! šŸ˜

Joe

If she had also mentioned TS...my head would have actually exploded.šŸ˜†

Clarence Newman

I apologise, I've been watching The Holiday with Wifey and It's made me tardy. But Mark and Chris are right. If Cassie doesn't watch Croc Dundee 2 with Carly for Australia Day, she'll upset the entire country. Not to mention Nev and Donk. Don't be a pillocken, Cassie!

Joe

Only 50% of movies make money...so why take chances. Reboots, sequels, and comic superheroes, hey this stuff is already written.

Clarence Newman

Alas, I lost that years ago, Mark. But I am well happy that Seegar is finally getting over the wall.

Joe

We had prepared Clarence it was coming (haha).

Mike LL

I would love a sequels poll, because I want you to see all the Indiana Jones and Jurassic World movies. I hope the new series is finally Planet of the Apes. Start with 68. I'm most excited about Outlaw Josey Wales this week. Some good Clint western action.

Joe

I hope Cassie does the OG Mad Max movies in 2025.

Clarence Newman

Outlaw Josey Wales? Haven't seen that for a while, but my memory tells me there is legend dust on it. Looking forward to the reaction. Star Trek: Into Darkness? I watched the three reboot Treks a few months back and I think I enjoyed them all. A lot of people think they suck (especially that one), but Cassie has her rose-tinted goggles now. She's gonna love it. As for OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN? Well......how can I explain it?.....Have you ever seen how Taylor Swift reacts when Travis Kelce scores a touchdown???!!!! šŸ™ŒšŸ˜šŸ¤—šŸ¤“

Anthony Carlson

Off topic: When was the last time Cassie put out a Sports Movie poll?

Cole Jennett

During the Olympics last summer. There wasnā€™t a courtroom poll in all of 2024

Clarence Newman

I will stand by you as we push for a John Wayne poll, Bill. Once we're there, however, there may have to be a joust-off between The Searchers and The Sons of Katie Elder! šŸ¤

Cliff Endicott

My favorite movie of the 80s is pretty obscure - "Who's Life Is It Anyway" (1981). Richard Dreyfuss plays a successful sculptor who is in a terrible car accident and is left paralyzed from the neck down. He wants to be released from the hospital so he can die, but the doctors won't let him. The movie is about his fight for his freedom. Really very funny and touching movie that still gets me every time.

Clarence Newman

Ooh, that one too. But with the original Aussie audio track please, not the US-dubbed version.

Chris Thom

Still shocked she had no desire to see how The Matrix ended. I was chomping at the bit for that one for the seven months after Reloaded.

Cole Jennett

She did watch Tin Cup and Invincible last year, but they were her own choices, not a poll. The last outright poll for sports I think was nearly 3 years ago

Clarence Newman

Don't think I've seen that, but Dreyfus is one of those guys who doesn't seem to make bad movies.

Robert Durant

What I love about Cassie is that she doesnā€™t get too much into critiquing movies, either she loved it or hated it. Yeah itā€™s been a surprising that she didnā€™t like a lot of other peopleā€™s favorites like we thought she would but I have no doubt she will love S.T. Into Darkness. Yeah itā€™s got some questions concerning the plot but itā€™s still a fun movie.

Clarence Newman

Cassie and Carly have never met a sports movie they don't love, Anthony. It's definitely worth pushing for more.

cfb0453

Happy New Year Cassie! I hope your sinuses clear up soon, believe me I know how debilitating that can be. "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is a great choice. One of Clint's all time best. Written by the same guy who co-created "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Looking forward to another great year of reactions with you and Carly. Rock on!

Cole Jennett

Well then your blessed because you have a huge catalog of movies to watch with her for the first timešŸ˜Š

Hiraoka Toru

I wish for more Popcorn Flick picks per month and fewer tv series episodes taking up a movie slot per week. I also wish I could eat more salty foods without affecting my blood pressure. Happy New Year!

Anthony Carlson

What would you suggest Clarence? I did put in for PIB pick of the month for Friday Night Lights (2004).

Mark White

How about a Road movie Poll? Now what could we put in that?! šŸ¤”

Cole Jennett

Iā€™m going to be contrarian and say more tv series if they end up being good performers for the channel. This is a business after all. Iā€™d love to see Game of Thrones in the new year.

Stranger2Reality

I didn't know Cassie was such a Bieber fan. In that case, I strongly recommend the new Aubrey Plaza film My Old Ass (sorry, that's actually the title). It's a very sweet movie about an 18 year old Canadian girl who's about to leave home in the country to go to school in Toronto and is enjoying her last summer of childhood. That's a vague enough description without getting into any spoilers, but it's definitely something you'd really enjoy, especially if you're a fan of the Biebs! Happy New Year, and I'm really looking forward to An Officer and a Gentleman!

Mike Lemon

If salt is actually affecting your blood pressure, be sure to get your kidneys checked (if you haven't already). Salt doesn't generally directly cause health issues, but it does exacerbate other problems (usually kidneys).

Mike Lemon

@Cole - She could just watch Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995), no need for a courtroom poll.

Stranger2Reality

Agreed with the no more Trek request (after these last two movies). Really I just don't think doing any more long running TV shows like that are a good idea, as it ends up monopolizing the channel for months with one specific show. I've said this before, but I feel like if she's gonna continue with Trek (or even other long running shows), she should consider a second channel, or otherwise just watch them on her own. Otherwise for the people who aren't interested in that show, rather than getting 3 new videos per week it's really only 2. Anyway, just my two cents.

Cole Jennett

@Mike - Poll winners get more views than poll losers, but at least it can have its shot that way.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Congratulations on your brother's new baby. I'm really looking forward to your reactions to The Outlaw Josey Wales and especially An Officer and a Gentleman.

V M

taylor swift is a horrendous music artist.

V M

She hasn't seen how The Godfather ended either :P There's arent too many good threequels. Godfather 3, Matrix 3, & Rocky 3 arent too good. I should say Godfather 3 is actually a good movie, just not on the level of the first 2. Matrix 2 and 3 shouldve been combined into one good movie. Spoiler alert. There was way too much of the humans defending Zion from the machines, and those scenes just dragged on...

David Collins

Nice lineup this week! Two of my personal favorites and a Star Trek movie. What's not to like?

Richard Maurer

I want to see more horror ( classic or modern) and more Asian martial arts movies - less run-of-the-mill mainstream movies, especially less series. I enjoyed both Star Trek and particularly the X-men runs but enough series for a while and of course, letā€™s make 2025 the year of Horror of Dracula..

Chris Thom

Always liked Any Given Sunday. That's a unique one. Have no clue if she would be into it though.

Chris Thom

Yeah it wasn't the best. But I did have a feeling the directors would feel the need to show more of reality (Zion) for the ending. For all the red pill talk of the others, it was inevitable.

Clarence Newman

There's a ton of them, Anthony. The Champ (1979) is my favourite, but also The Longest Yard (1974), Semi Tough (1977), Over The Top (1987), The Cincinnati Kid (1965), The Hustler (1961), Slap Shot (1977), The Fighter (2010), Escape To Victory (1981) etc etc etc. And, because Mark would be disappointed if I didn't include it, The Cannonball Run (1981)

Anthony Carlson

Those are starters! Would a modern one be more preferable? Another one I might suggest is a newer one called Air (2023). Itā€™s about how Nike landed Michael Jordan and created the iconic Air Jordan 1 sneaker (and the shoe brand afterwards). I hope I didnā€™t spoil anything here.

Michael West

Welcome back. Glad you enjoyed you family time and congrats to your brother on the new baby. Really good lineup this week. Seems like it's been a while since you did a sports move. Would love to see an animal movie poll (Howard the Duck doesn't count) or courtroom drama. Whatever you choose, just keep up the great work. Yours is one of the best reaction channels on the web.

YodatheHobbit

That's interesting. I have high blood pressure(and Afib) but my last blood test results indicated nearly perfect kidney health likely due very rarely drinking alcohol.

Uncle Phoenix

For 2025, I want more Grandpa Popcorn picks, Grandma Popcorn picks, and Uncle Popcorn picks.

Just Plain Bob

Cooper Rush has a passer rating of 84 for his lifetime and for this season. Dak Prescott has a lifetime rating of 98 and had a rating of 86 this season before being injured. Rush is NOT an improvement over Prescott. Heā€™ll be back riding the pine next year. The problem isnā€™t Prescott. The problem is an owner that canā€™t stand to share the limelight and made himself GM.

Uncle Phoenix

I think the proper popcorn pronunciation is ā€œMy Old A Money Moneyā€.

Joe

Cassie may need a poll to decide on a poll. So many suggestions, nothing is easy at this popcorn stand, lol.

YodatheHobbit

Are you still in the process of editing together a video for YouTube of your Salt Lake FanX experience? I remember hearing about it during a LIVE a few months back. Unless maybe I missed it on Instagram or something. Also, whatever your infection ends up being.... try adding some garlic to every meal! Chicken Bacon Mac and Cheese with Garlic is great.

Mike Lemon

@Yoda- Don't read extra into what I wrote. I said- if salt affects it - I didn't say if you have high blood pressure. I've read many salt and health studies, I haven't read other "causes" studies. Doctors will tell you to reduce salt as a precaution (from old wives tales???). That said, they're the doctors, I'm just some internet rando that took the time to read those boring papers.

Mike Lemon

Soul Surfer (2011) would probably be a sports movie she would love.

Ike

Whooo! Great Reaction Week! (they are all great, but you know what I mean) šŸ˜

Bjƶrn Karlsson

OK....... Fewer movies/TV-shows that begins with the word "Star" šŸ˜šŸ˜ More from the highest ranked on popcorn request. There are 5 movies with 100 requests or more. Just do them right off next year. You can take one movie every month. And pleeeaase do more non-english from Europe. Less than 0,3 % off your reactions have been that. (Amelie and Das boot, and they got lots of views on Youtube and you liked them) Amelie is like 3 years ago now. Just use Popcorn request and everything will be great imo šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰šŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

clutchkman

I'd like less work and more play of course. I like the mix of movie genres you've got going on, hope you're feeling better soon, and wish you and the fam a happy new year!

Bjƶrn Karlsson

Btw..... Happy New Year to you all šŸ˜ŠšŸ„³šŸ‘

Mike Lemon

I'll say it again- without the long-ass series/franchises and using those spots for the app, the top 100 requests could have been watched already.

Robert

Outlaw Josie Wales is great.

Christian

Happy New Year!!! :)

Richard Maurer

I want a poll where all the movies have the words horror, of, and Dracula in the title, in that order. And no other words in the title.

Jake McNulty

Personally I'd suggest that Cassie should consider saving a spot each month for the No.1 film on the app.

Robert Lemond

Happy New Year from Chicago!

Brian McGovern

I still see Bieber as a 16 year old kid and Cassie's fascination as a little inappropriate. Then I realise he is now 30 and a little younger than Cassie so it is fine. I think it means I have never grown up, despite being just over the 50 mark.

Joel Wayne

Happy New Year šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

Anthony Carlson

Should old acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should old acquaintance be forgot In the days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne And surely, you will buy your cup And surely, I'll buy mine! We'll take a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne We two who've paddled in the stream From morning sun 'til night The seas between us roared and swelled Since the days of auld lang syne For old acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind Should old acquaintance be forgot For the sake of auld lang syne? For old acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind Should old acquaintance be forgot In the days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne 2025 just arrived! Happy New Year folks! (Also a reference to the one of the all time Christmas classics, Itā€™s a Wonderful Life. šŸ˜‰šŸ™‚)

Byrd N. Hand

I know ignorance is bliss, but it's still ignorance nonetheless... šŸ˜

Byrd N. Hand

Well, you can't pluralize 'jazz.' Besides, they belong back in New Orleans. I've long wanted to see a 3-city team swap in which the Jazz go back to New Orleans, the Pelicans go to Memphis (and change their name to something else), and the Grizzlies go to SLC. That would then leave the Lakers as the only anachronistically-named NBA team. And if the NHL team's new name *is* in fact 'Yeti,' I might be even more sickened than I was for the Kraken (why not 'Pilots' or 'Totems,' y'all? Y'know, a nod to the city's sports past?). šŸ¤®šŸ¤®šŸ¤®

Byrd N. Hand

While I appreciate that Taylor Swift at least plays an instrument and writes her own songs, her music is otherwise in the same boat with most other mainstream music these days: it's too basic and simplistic. Where did all the Jimi Hendrixes and Keith Emersons go? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Chris Thom

Mostly agree but Terminator is her most watched reaction by quite a bit. Snapshot of what sells on the channel. Also war movies. And the big tent poles.

Byrd N. Hand

Has Cassie ever outright said that she had no desire to finish the "Matrix" trilogy, or was it just another sequel that got lost in the shuffle for her? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Personally, I still prefer "Revolutions" over "Reloaded." Hopefully one day she watches it for the channel.

Rose

Happy New Year (in about 1.5 hours from CA)! I was excited about your YT community poll for ā€œSquid Game.ā€ Hope thatā€™s part of the 2025 lineup. I put Squid Game in Plannerā€™s Popcorn Request when it was newly released - hoping youā€™d do something different. More anime as well - ā€œSpirited Awayā€ was such an awesome reaction šŸ’œ Also hoping for some foreign films & Asian martial arts on the channel (Jackie Chanā€™s ā€œPolice Storyā€ would be great!).

fargoboyle .

I'look forward to Officer/Gentleman (great film and great performances) but so many forget this film has some dark themes amongst it's uplifting moments

I just finished watching The Shawn Ryan Show with Kris ā€œTantoā€ Paronto - former Army Ranger and CIA security contractor. Just reminded me about your great reaction to the movie ā€œ13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.ā€ Highly recommend checking this interview with Tanto! Heā€™s so genuine and a real character - never tire listening to his story. One of the best episodes from Shawn.

Clarence Newman

Very good point. Cassie just labelled it as "romance" in her post, so it's worth pointing out that it's way more than that. A great and very rewarding film, but she'll have to ride a rollercoaster to get there. Not one of the real scary ones, but a rollercoaster nonetheless.

Clarence Newman

All the above suggestions are kosher. Especially Duel and Roadhouse. And Thelma. And Mel's Mad Max. In fact, I'd like all of them please.

Bjƶrn Karlsson

I'll say it again - Do a Popcorn request week now and then. One week = three movies. First the highest ranked. Second: Cassie takes what ever she wants from top 100 (or top 50). Or we can do a poll, or Cassie picks a random number between 2 and 50. The last movie of the week is the highest ranked non-english movie. Sooooo many great ones in popcorn request among (lets say) top 500 of all movies.

Clarence Newman

It's a slam dunk, Richard. Cassie will always run to a movie with the word 'Horror' in the title! šŸ˜

Clarence Newman

I think it's unlikely Cassie's done with Trek, because she's enjoyed it too much. I tend to go back and forth, but at the moment, I'd be happy with Season 3 of Picard (to round out the TNG story), and then be done with it. I'll probably think differently next week.

Clarence Newman

@Mike. In case you missed it, Cassie mentioned on the last live that she might watch Game of Thrones in 2025. I'm not sure about that one myself. For one thing it's 74 episodes (you can't really cherry-pick), and it relentlessly violates several of her Nope tropes. It's one of those difficult ones (for those of us who don't mind her watching tv series'). I love the show, but I'm not sure I want to see Cassie squirm that much.

Clarence Newman

If you're throwing El Dorado into the hat, I've got to include Rio Bravo. They're virtually the same film, but worth watching both because of the different characters. Wayne is the same in both, Mitchum and Dean Martin are just as good as each other, I think James Caan (Dorado) is better than Ricky Nelson (Rio), but Stumpy (Rio) trounces Bull in Dorado. Then again, Dorado has Michele Carey's mustang hair, while Rio has Dino and Ricky singing "My Rifle, My Pony and Me". Oh hell, watch them both!

Clarence Newman

Anthony. I'm not a fan of including 2020's movies. There are so many great movies (1900-2019) we've been trying to get her to watch, I really think the 2020's should wait.

Hendrik Bahnsen

This Star Trek movie part is the best of the 3 parts

Hendrik Bahnsen

The western with Clint Eastwood is also very good

Clarence Newman

Does anyone else find it ironic that Cassie does not like to say the word "ass", yet her parents included it in her name?

Stranger2Reality

@Clarence - Totally agree, Game of Thrones is definitely NOT a Cassie kind of show. Even without the grizzly horror elements, the gory brutality, incest and extensive nudity/sexual scenes throughout the show do not seem to be something she'd enjoy. I liked that show, so I'll definitely watch her reactions if she does it, but it's absolutely not something I'd immediately assume she would like.

Clarence Newman

@Stranger. I don't even see it as a close thing. I'm rewatching it right now and I just watched the episode where Cersei sends the guards to the brothel because she doesn't want Robert's illegitimate sons.....you know the rest. I'm not sure Cassie would ever unsee that scene, and it's probably one of 30 just like it.

Mike LL

A Road movie poll?? Now you're talking! I would LOVE a Road movie poll! What would be first?: Road to Singapore (1940) Road to Zanzibar (1941) Road to Morocco (1942) Road to Utopia (1946) Road to Rio (1947) Road to Bali (1952) The Road to Hong Kong (1962) We need more Bing and some Bob on the channel!!

Richard Maurer

To say nothing of the fact that the last season, in particular, wasnā€™t very good (understatement). Itā€™s also another long series, this time with a bad pay off. Iā€™d rather she just do House of the Dragon - all good (so far) and only 2 seasons (so far)

Grad

+1 on more anime. Spirited Away is great. Maybe it wasn't the best starting point, considering it's now been three years without anime.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - I donā€™t expect Cassie to always run to ā€œhorrorā€, just a little more often

Richard Maurer

It was around this time last year we had a martial arts poll. This year letā€™s make it an Asian martial arts poll, with no US made wannabe martial arts movies. Or you could just watch Enter the Dragon, because it would win that poll anyway.

Mike Lemon

@Clarence - Ahhhhhhhh!!! Enough with the long-ass series already. Why are so many so afraid of variety. It's not like Cassie would be doing a bonus 16 hour live-stream every Saturday and burning through the series in a month, it would be another series that pisses away 1/3 of the variety for a year. And let's face it, once you have already seen Game of Thrones, much of it becomes pretty boring. "you can't really cherry-pick" Well, you can, but only after you have seen it before. I've gone through and just watched the Arya story a few times, but you have to know what episodes have 4 minutes of her story and which episodes skip it completely. I really wish the fan editors would get on it and make a 10 hour series cut and, maybe, make character specific cuts for each main character.

Rainbow Dash

Glad youā€™re watching more classic Clint Eastwood, but I would really like to see you watch some John Wayne westerns.

Gray

Need some Jackie Chan on this channel at some point too, a Mr Nice Guy or Who Am I? would be fun

Clarence Newman

And, strangely enough, The Horror of Dracula wouldn't be too much for her to take. They paid more attention to cast, storyline and atmosphere back then.

Byrd N. Hand

I can't believe no one's suggested "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" or "Muriel's Wedding." I'd also add Peter Weir's "The Last Wave" and Gillian Armstrong's "Starstruck."

Sam Wilson

Although it has been voted for before but I'll do it again, Cassie you really need to check out The Searchers it's definitely one of the Best Westerns ever made

Louisa Moritz

The Mclintocks is a unique Western where no one dies, has three ongoing love stories and a lot of comic relief

Richard Maurer

Itā€™s mostly from the mid-70ā€™s on that we start to get horror movies that are supposedly ā€œtoo much for Cassieā€ - Iā€™ll never be able seriously say any movie is ā€œtoo muchā€ for Cassie. I would agree that there are horror movies that she would find extremely distasteful and/or frightening, but when people say ā€œtoo muchā€ for her it implies she might have a heart attack or lose her mind, or something crazy like that. Can we all just admit that these are extremely unlikely scenarios?

Clarence Newman

Agreed, Richard, but that's largely semantics, most of which you and I agree on. When I use the term "too much for Cassie to take" (or similar), I never mean she wouldn't survive it or it would cause her lasting harm. What I mean is that she has a tender soul with specifically soft areas and there are certain tropes that would "hurt" her, either briefly or longer term, in ways that are not necessary to expanding her horizons when it comes to movies. Game of Thrones is a perfect example (and I use it because she's mentioned she might watch it this year). Do I think she could sit through every episode and survive all the gore and graphic sex and deviant behaviour and demons and cruelty that are the lifeblood of that great series? Yes, of course she could. Do I think it would hurt those soft parts of her soul in a way that goes above and beyond my own personal line where enjoyment of her reactions is replaced with concern and discomfort? Also yes. I love seeing Cassie's emotions stretched, which is why I'm really looking forward to her Officer and a Gentleman reaction - despite the fact that it's got some tough parts in it. Anything that's over that line I mentioned, I'm always going to at least give her a heads up.

Richard Maurer

I think Cassieā€™s soft side might be a little tougher than you think, but generally I agree with you. But there are people that have actually believed that certain movies would harm her, mentally or physically, in a serious way. So that is what I think of when people start throwing around statements about films being ā€œ too much for Cassieā€.

Richard Maurer

Young Nosferatu, the Series! See the origin story of a newly turned vampire, and how he became a legend, known only asā€¦ā€¦..Nosferatu!!!!!

Byrd N. Hand

The fact that Ariana Grande still looks 14 years old (despite actually being 31) is probably the weirdest aspect of these movies for me... in addition to the fact that I'm just not really into musicals. šŸ¤”

SnabbKassa

Sherlock vs Robocop (not a suggestion, though I suppose that would be a good movie if they made it?)

Celeste McAllister

I couldn't agree more! The local school board members cringe when they see us parents enter the room,I support teachers not influencers, education not indoctrination, groomers need to be permanently banned from schools..

Anime has the problem with Japanese companies being copyright strike happy (because of Japanese law). Some people get away with it for a while, some people get their whole channel deleted. VKunia did a video when her first channel got hit- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ustI4Tq3TY

My daughters call me all the time asking for help with their essays. And theyā€™re not looking for me write the essays for themā€¦they know the material and how they want to answer the questions . But they donā€™t know how to use words and not write like theyā€™re texting or talking to their friends. They just werenā€™t taught in school how to write and use language in creative ways. And reading books as part of an assignment is all but gone now. The office manager for my company told me the other day that her granddaughterā€™s school is encouraging students to use some AI program to help them complete homework assignments. That just boggles my mind and really makes me sad. It sounds more and more like the staples of educationā€¦reading, writing, and arithmetic, is being condensed down to just arithmetic.

Mark Vaderr

Happy New Year's, Cassie! Your channel ended 2024 at 438k subscribers! Here's to the journey to 500k!!!

Clarence Newman

File this under "If you wait long enough, bad stuff turns to good". I remember wishing Cassie had watched Josey Wales first because then she wouldn't be watching Million Dollar Baby just before Christmas. 10 days later, I'm happy she's already watched MDB because she's going to have way more fun with Josey Wales.

V M

I think it just got lost in the shuffle. I liked Reloaded more than Revolutions. I hated those Zion defense scenes that went on seemingly forever.

Raieldon

Omg, at long last An Officer And A Gentleman. On behalf of those of us who set aside a column of recommendations tailored for your tastes specifically, I apologize that you had to popcorn pick it yourself. As for the next big project I'd want to see in '25 after Star Trek? Kubrick. Every Kubrick film from Paths Of Glory to A. I. Can't go bigger on horizon expanding than that. Many reliable Youtube view-grabbers as well.

Bill Maurer

I heard, Elvis Presly was in negotiations to play the part that went to Ricky Nelson. But, his infamous / famous manager Col Parker wanted top billing for Elvis and the Duke was not going to have that. Michele Carey ... be still my beating heart. The third trilogy in this movies series, Rio Lobo basically has the same plot. This movie has the lovely Jennifer )'Neil and Sherry Lansing has the leading ladies.

Bill Maurer

trying this again ... i think my other reply got deleted. Supposedly,. Elvis was in talks to play the part that Ricky Nelson got. But his manager, Col Parker, wanted more money and top billing over the Duke and that was not going to happen. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053221/trivia/?ref_=tt_dyk_trv Charlene Holt ... be still my beating heart. Have you seen the last in this movie trilogy, Rio Lobo ? Same kind of plot but this time we get the lovely Jennifer O'Neill and Sherry Lansing as our leading ladies.

Mike Lemon

And that is exactly why every channel reacts to the same freaking movies all the damn time. "Asian martial arts poll!" -"Rush Hour, Van Damme, Bloodsport" (even if suggested in jest) ...sigh... Come on, be creative. Michelle Yeoh has a movie(?) coming out, why not recommend Wing Chun (1994) or even The Heroic Trio (1993).

zynjams

omg, outlaw Jose Wales and an officer and a gentleman in the same week, 2025 is starting out with a bang. hopefully PiB could sneak in the Majestic

THE ATOMIC GRANDMOTHER: This humorous but heart-warming story tells of an elderly woman forced to work at a nuclear power plant in order to help the family make ends meet. At night, granny sits on the porch, tells tales of her colorful past, and the family uses her to cook barbecues and to power small electrical appliances. Maureen Stapleton gives a glowing performance.

Clarence Newman

Aw, that's well Grinchy, Mike! Surely Cassie's channel has variety that is second to not very many? Blockbusters that everyone watches (because the majority want to see reactions to them and they give her good YT numbers), foreign films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Safety Wires, new ones like The Holdovers, really old ones like The Shop Around The Corner, monster movies old and new, tv shows, cartoons, westerns, musicals, ducks that make you long for open bloody season, annoying son-in-laws, grumpy old men, and some that even soar like an eagle. Variety is not the problem with Cassie. The problem is there are too many great films we want her to watch and not enough Cassies. As I've said before, my own list is over 200 films long and I can get frustrated when something comes on the schedule that falls flat on me. I also have movies on there that no one but no one would back me up on. I just happen to personally (and a little perversely) love them (Rhinestone anyone? Meander?) A really good martial arts movie, whether it's Bruce, Jackie, Tony, JCVD or Under Siege (but not Cynthia Rothrock - NEVER Cynthia Rothrock!), will make a lot of folks on the site happy so it's good to have one now and then. What we need to guard against is one particular thing swamping the site, which for you will include Star Trek, but for me is Cassie watching the first instalment of a franchise (Halloween, for example) and people urging her to watch all 26 sequels, plus the Making Of documentary. It's like giving her a box of Harry Potter Every Flavour Beans and expecting her to enjoy the ear wax flavour as much as the mint choccy chip. There's no way around reaction sites covering the same old favourites. Why wouldn't they? Like you, Mike, and everybody else on here (I would imagine), Cassie just needs to watch more films that are on MY list. Then she'd be perfect! šŸ˜Š

Clarence Newman

May have seen Rio Lobo, Bill - I watched most of The Duke's westerns when I was a kid. I don't remember it, though, despite the fact that Jennifer O'Neill (Summer of '42) was one of the hottest women ever to grace the Earth. Probably not, then. As for Colonel Tom Parker..... What. A. Dickhead!

Mike Lemon

Cassie has had terrible variety in the last year. People like Dawn Marie, Octokrool, and You, Me, and the Movies have been much better. Cassie (and Jen and Ashleigh) gets by with her great personality. One quarter of Cassie's non-Halloween content has been two franchises this year and a lot of the rest has been the same old stuff on almost every channel. So, yes, when someone suggests an interesting poll like "Asian martial arts" and people start suggesting movies that aren't "Asian" or martial arts, I do get 'grinchy'. "...watch more films that are on MY list." My list is three- Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995), The Last Unicorn (1982), and a distant third- City of Angels (1995) "There's no way around reaction sites covering the same old favourites. Why wouldn't they?" Because there are thousands of great movies just waiting to be seen. Because she wants too- she has wanted to watch Shakespeare in Love for years. Because she has already promised- Legend was one of the first (the first?) pillowcase pulls. Because being the same as everyone else is boring. Viva variety!

Clarence Newman

You have 3 films on your list, Mike? No wonder you're Grinchy! I'll send you my list if you want. Its variety is kaleidoscopically vivre. As for Shakespeare in Love, I would put that one in with Officer and a Gentleman. It's so completely up Cassie's street, WHY DOESN'T SHE JUST WATCH IT!!? (I know she's about to watch Officer, but I'm talking about before she finally committed to it.)

Mike Lemon

She doesn't watch it because she insists on putting it on a poll and people vote for the "popular movie" that every other channel watches. It's lost two or three times already.

Richard Maurer

The main problem with relying on polls is that people are almost always going to pick popular movies, unsurprisingly. But unfortunately these are often the safest, blandest choices. Also Cassieā€s channel has the added problem that many of her patrons insist on voting for movies theyā€™re sure Cassie will like, which only makes the movies they pick safer and blander. I canā€™t remember the last time I was surprised by a poll winner here. To be clear I donā€™t expect Cassie to stop doing popular films , thatā€™s not going to happen anyway. But as Mike said we could use more variety here.

Richard Maurer

If it gets done at all, it will be in October, itā€™s technically a horror movie.

Clarence Newman

Not sure I agree with that, Richard. Her patrons recently picked Million Dollar Baby by a clear 70 votes, and there's no way most of them thought she would like it. Same applies to No Country For Old Men. Great, mainstream movies that people want to see a reaction to, yes, but safe and bland they were not.

Clay F

I am a fan of Debra Winger in An Officer and a Gentleman

Joe

All I can say is that Cassie has plenty of variety for my tastes. I'm here only because I like Cassie and enjoy her reactions....I'm not here at all for any specific movies or genres. She now has the pick-a-flick so maybe some of us can get that favorite movie we want, there's a chance anyway (haha). I know some patrons want the channel to be something it is not. Thankfully, I'm not like that so I never have to be disappointed.

Mike LL

I can get behind all of these movies listed. Almost all. The Cowboys should not be the one John Wayne western she ever sees! She needs to see a John Wayne western, goshdangit!

Mike Amandes

Me seeing Million Dollar Baby on the list: Oh, I bet that wrecked Cassie. Cassie: Goldmember, because I needed something to make me laugh after Million Dollar Baby. Me: Yeah, I bet. šŸ’“

Javier Hernandez

I'd love for you to revisit the Silence of the Lambs universe. Do a comparison of Michael Mann's "Manhunter" and Brett Ratner's "Red Dragon". It's the same story but the films are 20 years apart. In the first film it was Brian Cox who played Hannibal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mktK3vbiy5I).

Mark White

Clarence, I can give you some variety in one movie! How about a comedy, a action, a road movie, itā€™s got thrills! and some martial arts thrown in! You could have, James Bond, The Bandit, a Charlieā€™s Angel and Two of the OG Rat pack! Just to name a few! If only there was a movie like thatšŸ˜‚

V M

Hope Cassie is feeling better.

Richard Maurer

@ Clarence- youā€™re talking about polls that didnā€™t really have ā€œsafeā€ choices. Thatā€™s like if I said there were a lot of classic horror movies because she watched King Kong and Godzilla last year. And the movies you mentioned might not beā€œsafeā€ but they are popular and mainstream. But I canā€™t count the number of times people mentioned they were voting for the movie they thought Cassie would like best and/or berated people for voting for movies they thought Cassie wouldnā€™t d like (including No Country and MDB)

Scott Macaulay

I still feel like 1980 was 20 years ago lol

Chris Thom

YES. Been surprised she doesn't want to finish up some of these stories. Some great franchises left on the shelf. I liked Hannibal maybe more than Silence.

Mark White

Yeah, the whole variety, mainstream vs marginal or unsafe, Cassie would like vs not like. Itā€™s a tricky one. Look, I have voted for movies that I think Cassie would like over my own personal choices before. I think why I do that is two fold. One, Iā€™m not sure a movie like ā€œScarfaceā€ which I love! I would get the reaction I would enjoy, because itā€™s not really Cassieā€™s type of movie. I mean, would she enjoy it like I did when I first watched it?! If she didnā€™t like it, how would I feel then?! I guess what I like is Cassie watching a movie I really loved and seeing her enjoy just as much. Two, I want to see Cassie enjoying herself. I mean why wouldnā€™t you. As for variety and mainstream vs less popular, I mean, is just a point of view what they come under? Is one persons mainstream movie anotherā€™s indie? Variety. Isnā€™t having more variety just people wanting more movies they like? So if I wanted more variety (which I feel itā€™s ok as it is) I would say letā€™s have ā€œTouching the Voidā€ orā€Alan Partridge Alpha Papaā€ or Human Trafficā€ or ā€œClockwiseā€ or ā€œShoppingā€ but I donā€™t think anybody would want them other than me! šŸ˜† However I have actually asked for touching the void! Maybe I should ask for ā€œBeverly hills copā€! I mean most people like it, Cassie will probably enjoy it. But yeah itā€™s mainstream! I donā€™t know the answer and Iā€™m going to stop now as I can see myself rambling! And Iā€™ve started to not even make sense to myselfšŸ¤ŖšŸ˜‚

Mike Lemon

@Mark - "Isnā€™t having more variety just people wanting more movies they like?" I can't speak for others, but I often vote for movies I like less or haven't seen over ones I like more to increase the variety offered.

Richard Maurer

I make it easy on myself and only vote for the movies I like best, to the point where I just donā€™t vote if there isnā€™t anything in the poll I care about. And since I like a pretty wide variety of films my vote is pretty balanced .

Clarence Newman

I agree with most of what Mark says, particularly the bit about "Clockwise", which is a John Cleese comedy from 1981. I remember when that came out. It was a small, low-budget flick with no great expectations, but did huge business in Britain because everything sucked at the time. People just wanted a laugh. And, of course, my endorsement of the multi-award winning extravaganza that is The Cannonball Run only enhances my reputation as a recommender of greatness. @Mike. You certainly do walk the path less travelled by, my friend. I like variety too, but I could never vote for a film I like less than another that's on the poll, because I have a big old list I need to whittle down. If a poll contains films that are on my list and ones that aren't, then the ones that aren't are just gonna have to suck it. I admire your pursuit of diversity, even at your own expense, but it took me years just to get Officer and a Gentleman watched. I can't be changing my tactics now. As for what Richard said, I flatly refuse to agree with him twice in one week.

V M

Hey, it's legendary actor Jimmy Stewart. How are you? I love your work.

Mark White

Yeah, Mike and Richard, just ignore my above comment, I just looked at it again and it makes no sense! I think I started off with good intentions, then got far and above my station, then got a nose bleed from the altitude! And then came back down to earth with such a bump, I gave myself concussion! šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜‚ I really donā€™t know what Iā€™m talking about! I knew I was ridiculously late for dinner(it was my turn) while typing the message and I was getting shouted at ā€œare you on that bloody phone againā€! šŸ«£šŸ« šŸ˜‚

Stranger2Reality

You consider AI to be a Kubrick film? Are there other movies he didn't direct that you feel like are Kubrick films, or just AI? Kubrick is my favorite director, personally, but his movies are not typically ones I just blanket recommend to anyone and everyone. I know a lot of people find many of them inaccessible or boring, and I can understand that perspective, even if I don't personally have that reaction to his movies. Also, Cassie has already watched probably his two most accessible or "mainstream" films (Full Metal Jacket and The Shining) and she had pretty strong negative reactions to both, so I'm guessing it might be a tough sell for her to keep going with his oeuvre. I think she might like Dr. Strangelove though. If I was going to recommend just one of his movies to her that I think she might enjoy, it would probably be that.

Raieldon

It's the only one I'm aware of that he produced but didn't finish. Fits magnificently with Cassie's sentiments anyhow.

Raieldon

But yeah, I for sure wouldn't fit most of them in that aforementioned "column of movies tailored for her tastes as is". She mentioned broadening horizons in the OP, and I can't think of bigger sum of odd and good.

Byrd N. Hand

To be fair, "The Shining" and "Full Metal Jacket" are also Kubrick's 2 most intense films. The only other one I feel Cassie might have a slight aversion to would be "A Clockwork Orange"... and perhaps also "Eyes Wide Shut," depending on how much Tom Cruise being in it overrides all the film's sexual content for her. šŸ¤” P.S. "The Killing" would also be reaction-worthy, IMO.

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, it's downright disturbing how quickly time seems to pass now compared to in my youth. šŸ˜

She's actually seen Atonement. Was one of the first ones I thought of when I started watching the channel.

Right. Seems like the risk is not worth it. Maybe one way to handle it (to an extent) is to keep a separate channel for anime reactions. Not sure if the main channel would still be at risk.

Richard Maurer

Anime is hard to do but not impossible. The Normies have been doing it from the start and are still doing it.

Clarence Newman

There are a thousand "top ones", Cassie. If you watch the first hundred, I promise we will be badgering you just as hard to watch the next hundred. You're stuck with us forever, so there.

A few random polls by genre from the top 200 would be nice.

Same can be said of Top Gun movies.. Predictable in seeing the good guys shooting bad guys in planes out of the sky anyway.

Powers209

I really want to hear what Cassie thinks of 'Into Darkness" and will she dislike it as a fan of Classic Trek or give it a pass. Since Cassie likes Space Seed, I can't wait to hear her thoughts on what Jar Jar Abrams did to Kirk with this lame remake. I can't watch this movie again. I feel Abrams, Johnson, Kennedy, and Disnesy have killed my love for Star Wars and the Damage Abrams and Kurtzman have done to Trek is unforgivable and watching their movies made me hate Trek. At least for a time. At least the rumor that Star Trek: Discovery might be removed from Canon along with Kurtzman has given me hope that we might have a return to form for future Trek. As long as Disney does Disney Star Wars is dead.

Clay F

The Chris Pine reboots are awesome. We owe Abrams a debt of gratitude for reinvigorating the franchise. I like the Disney Star Wars. Disney is awesome.

Byrd N. Hand

I can't attest to Star Trek, but, having heard from a lot of its fans, the main criticism appears to be the same as with Star Wars: the new regimes for both IP's don't fundamentally understand Gene Roddenberry's and George Lucas' respective visions of these worlds they created. These folks are basically just taking their own random stories and putting Star Wars/Star Trek skins over them, regardless of how well they fit; they're trying to make the IP's conform to their stories rather than the other way around. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø And I'm sorry, but Abrams is a con man and a one-trick pony hack. His shallow 'mystery box' gimmick and penchant for nostalgia-baiting are quite transparent. At least Hollywood seems to finally be waking up to this, given his total lack of output in the last 5 years now. Like M. Night Shyamalan, I think he can be effective as a strictly for-hire director, but he needs to kept the hell away from the script/story room. šŸ¤Ø

I doubt Cassie will validate your opinions...she probably will just enjoy the movie, lol.

Abrams himself has said that his movies werenā€™t ā€œStar Trekā€ movies and that he never set out to make a Star Trek movie. He admitted in interviews after the release of his first ā€œTrekā€ film that he wasnā€™t a fan of the franchise, thought it was too philosophical and didnā€™t do any homework to prepare for directing the movies. It shows. All he seems to do is take franchises built by far more intelligent, imaginative people, denude them of all thinking and slather CGI all over the screen and call it a story. The next entry in the franchise being a perfect example, with him ripping off story elements from far better films with no apparent understanding of why they were impactful in the first place. His movies are what I imagine a film directed by AI would look like, if that AI were given a functional IQ of 65.

+1 on ā€œManhunter.ā€ Great movie. I didnā€™t like the Brett Ratner remake (ā€œRed Dragonā€) as much, although it was faithful to the book and good in its own right.

Itā€™s reminiscent of the ā€œvideo nastyā€ hysteria of the 80s, when England banned 72 films because they might cause irreparable harm to the youth of the country. Such nonsense. If (and itā€™s a BIG if) Cassie ever watched a movie that was ā€œTOO MUCHā€ for her, she could simply hit the stop button on her remote and let her Patreon community know that no reaction to the movie will be forthcoming. The continuing desire the play white knight and infantalize her is really growing tiresome.

I'm huge sci-fi fan, huge fan of the original Star Trek, TNG, DS9, Voyager, even Enterprise. I thought Abrams remake of Star Trek was fun and a great summer flick. I even enjoyed Into Darkness, although I agree that one small part at the end was annoying to watch and Abrams shouldn't have done it, but otherwise Into Darkness was very entertaining. The third movie Star Trek Beyond was horrible IMO, just a really bad story. I will say I hated Star Trek Discovery, the remake of the Klingons was really bad and the stories were hard to watch, not to mention changing Spock's canon in order to justify the story in the new series. The whole show became very cringe.

Cassie Please don't read this. Spoilers Clay F. Owe Jar Jar a debt of gratitude? Thems fighting words Clay. I'm no Trekkie. I didn't understand why so many Trekkies didn't like the Abrams reboot until Abrams who couldn't write his way out of a paper bag came to Star Wars. Armageddon, Alias, Mission Imp: 3, Lost, The Force Awakens and Rise of Skywalker are all dogshit. You can like dogshit, you do you boo. I wont have it. I don't care how many Lens Flares Abrams uses. I can see the man digging ditches not making movies. Spoiler:: Giving Kirt's Greatest Nemesis of Khan Noonien Singh to Spock has got to be the Dumbest retarded move in Sci-Fi movies history ...And I count Rey Palpatine Skywalker as the second. The fact that Abrams thought it was okay to even touch the Wrath of Khan without a proper setup shows the man is retarded as well as morally bankrupt. The idea that this fucker is still working in Hollywood after his work on LOST alone is a Fucking Joke. Bad Robot and Secret Hideout need to go. Clay you can like this guy, you can enjoy his work. I'm not attacking you on your likes and dislikes but I don't have to respect them. The way you don't respect my stance by posting that we need to show this Dumbshit gratitude for the Damage he's done to two franchises. You take a shit on my dinner table, I'm not showing you gratitude Clay. We can be friendly to one another but we would never be friends. Your taste in movies is so bad I wouldn't let you order water for my dog. Your liking of Disney Star Wars alone would disqualify you from touching the remote in my house, touching the radio stations on my car radio or using the bathroom in the barn. Don't get me wrong. I'd hang your crayon work on the fridge and you'd still get your Participation Trophy for showing up but I can't support type B thinking or people that like shitting the bed. Your wrong.

I find it ok, my only real gripe is how they made Spock, just way too many emotions. Abrams Spock was truer to the original Spock than SNW

Javier Hernandez

I believe that was Deborah Van Valkenburgh in The Warriors. But as long as we are talking Deb Winger ... the crime thriller Black Widow (1987). The closing shot is a little too much like the final shot in Body Heat (1981) but both were so good I'll let it slide.

@Witchfinder I made the mistake recently of trying to watch Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Within five minutes in the first episode they completely botched his engagement to Tā€™Pring, with her proposing to him and then briefly making out in a fancy restaurant. If you remember, in the episode ā€œAmok Timeā€, Spock mentions that their parents arranged the marriage. So, right off the bat they managed to get the engagement wrong and had two Vulcans engage in an overt display of PDA. So, the Kelvin timeline version of Spock is probably more faithful to the original portrayal, as deeply flawed as it is. The truth is that, once Roddenberry passed away and his immediate supporters departed the franchise, the studio took over. And theyā€™ve produced tv shows and movies reliant on CGI and peopleā€™s inability to discern the difference between good storytelling and bad. Gone are the thoughtful narratives of the Roddenberry era. All that remains is the franchise name Star Trek, which they exploit for easy dollars.

OK, I *hate* when people primarily attribute Lost to Abrams. šŸ™„ He had almost nothing to directly do with the show beyond the first few episodes (and the early development process); from then on, it largely belongs to Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. I'll die on the hill that it was pretty much the last great series produced by broadcast TV. It's not perfect (especially the latter 3 seasons), but when it hits, it really hits.

Clay F

Powers209, I donā€™t respect your dumbshit opinions. You are wrong and in the minority. Cassie and the majority like this movie. Listen to her comments in the reaction.

Clay F

Witchfinder, Disney is awesome. The franchises are stellar. Stay in your minority bubble. The world is leaving you behind.

Not a chance Cassie! We will never leave you. As long as you are watching movies, any movies, we will be here. ā¤ļø

Yes, I'd love to see her continue the Hannibal Lecter series -- namely "Red Dragon" and "Hannibal." I saw "Manhunter" years ago, but it did nothing for me; it almost felt like a glorified Miami Vice episode, and the cheesy AF '80s synth score didn't help its cause. šŸ¤” Of course, it still beats "Hannibal Rising."

I knew Officer and a Gentleman wouldnā€™t quite work. I never liked it either. Supposedly lots of folks love it, but I almost feel like I need to shower after watching it.

Steve

Star Trek Into Darkness might be the best of the three..
