Hidey Ho Neighbors!

Sorry this is a bit late this week. We had a wonderful trip to Mexico, it was very nice to relax, and spend time together, only returned with a little sunburn (just me, my family all got bronzed beautifully) and perhaps a stomach parasite 🫠🤦‍♀️ (also just me) but it really was worth it. My kids won't forget this one and their 12 daily pins coladas ;) BACK TO REALITY though, there is nothing quite like coming home, and I honestly can't wait to be back in bed watching a good flick with all of you.

This week we have the pick-a-flick winner with Cold Mountain, our Gene Hackman Poll Winner, which I'm excited about-I want to celebrate his great acting vs. the very sad news right now, and the last of the OG Apes I'll be watching. On YT it will be Beneath Apes, Now and Then and The French Connection.

We have the final courtroom poll, looks like JFK will be our winner-haha omg its 3.5 hours! Looks like there is a lot of back and forth in the comments which is always fun for me to catch up on!

If you missed the pick-a-flick drawing last week (on the third try 😳) our winner was Callmewheels, picking Cold Mountain, seems like a great cast, i’m anxiously excited! As a reminder you need to go back to the form and resubmit every month. So if you fill it out between 3/1-3/31 you will be entered for the drawing in April. Scrolling through the list last month solidified for me how exciting this is-such great picks that I want to see!

The official March Madness selection Sunday is March 16th, We will have our own PiB Selection Tuesday (tm) on the 18th where we will pair each team with a movie-what are your opinions on ranking the top requested movies with the top seeded teams vs randomly selecting from top 50 from each genre?

Ok guys! Happy Hump Day and I hope you have a great rest of the week!

Latest Podcast was Oscar’s catch up and movie news-up on Patreon now and public Thursday!

Ps. Watching anything great lately? I’m still loving White Lotus but hate watching week to week-I’m a binger.

This is going to be a good weekend....!!!!!! Three bangers. Yes...including Conquest

Michael Lynch

And to think we were so close to you finally watching collateral.

Bill Maurer

Nice photos! Looking forward to your March Madness PS: “The Searchers”

djKENTO

So bummed you couldn’t get The Conversation in before Enemy of the State… The whole reason Gene Hackman is in Enemy of the State is THE CONVERSATION. Same photos are used, he wears the same outfit, his workshop is pretty much the same…. Basically a sequel without the rights to say as much.

Eric Wallace

Enemy of the State is also an awesome Gene Hackman movie!

Paul Cox

How about the top seeds for each division match the top request for each genre, but everything else is randomly picked?

Shehab Dawoud

How about another Basketball movie poll since ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ was a success last year? There are some good ones left: ‘Blue Chips’ (1994) ‘Above The Rim’ (1994) ‘He Got Game’ (1998) ‘The Way Back’ (2020) ‘Hustle’ (2022)

Stick Figure Studios

The only film this week that I am really interested in seeing is CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, of which I think it is wise that you're making that the last of the OG sequels you react to (the following one, BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, is awful). When You jump forward, you will see how much this particular entry is an influence on the reboot trilogy. The other two films (COLD MOUNTAIN and ENEMY OF THE STATE) I have seen before and was not particularly enamored of, but maybe I'll give them another try to see if they have improved at all in my eyes. Really can't wait for JFK. I realize that it's 3.5 hour running length is intimidating, but I promise you that It will not feel long at all. That film just crackles with such energy and intensity that it will fly right by. It's innovative use of flashback and exposition It's sure to hold your attention and it has some of the best, most innovative editing I've ever seen in a major motion picture. It is electrifying filmmaking that astounded me (as it did most everyone) when I first saw it in the theater as an adolescent. As I mentioned in my comment on the courtroom drama poll, it was a seminal film in my development as a cinephile and it is still a personal favorite of mine. Definitely take its historicity with a grain of salt, but he prepared to be thoroughly entertained and intellectually challenged at the same time. Looking forward to that reaction.

Jon Johns

OMG! Your Mom looks GREAT, so happy 🥰. Glad to have you back! (Do your parents have a Pina Colada soda!?!) I'm a huge fan of ticking off that Top 50 list!!! Git to get to the good stuff once in a while! #LuvYaMeanIt

Josh Heinen

Isn't Saxon just the most annoying nepo baby of all time!? But I can't help but wonder what happens next on TWL

Neil Varma

Get well soon Cassie 🤞🙏❤️

Cory H

Oh...that will be great. It's the one movie I think of where Tom Cruise plays his same character while not playing his same character.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is a good watch since it's one of the inspirations for the reboots, making it a great point of comparison. All the classic Planet of the Apes movies influenced the reboots in some way, so watching them first lets you pick up on any parallels between modern films, and the originals. I've never actually seen Battle for the Planet of the Apes beyond YouTube clips, but from what I have seen, the reboot trilogy basically took the idea and made it a million times better. So, when it comes to Battle, you may as well just watch the modern films instead. There's also Planet of Apes TV series (1974) set in 3085 nine centuries before the events of the first two movies, which were set in 3978. The show follows two astronauts and a sympathetic chimp friend, heard it's pretty good but haven't watched it myself. Also, there's Return to the Planet of the Apes (1975), an animated series set in 3979, a year after the first two films. However, its depiction of ape society is much more advanced, portraying apes as having adopted human technology, fashion, and architecture from the 1970s. They use land, sea, and air vehicles, operate film cameras, and live in buildings that resemble modern homes, offices, classrooms, and laboratories.

Curtis Martin

Wow! Those kids look just like their Mom! 😋

Katie Jackson

You guys all look great, everyone looks like they had an amazing time, and look at how big the kiddos are getting! Enemy Of The State is fun, so I'm looking forward to that. As for March Madness, you should go as random as possible. Could be fun to go top 400 maybe. Really get some random movies on there. Maybe match movies from the top 200 to go up against movies 201 to 400. Heavy Hitters against underdogs? Or maybe draw from the first 100 for half of the teams against 400-499 for the other half of the teams.

Timothy Fisher

Since St. Patrick's Day is coming up soon will there be another St. Patrick's Day Movie Poll?

djKENTO

Very true. I don’t even like Coppola. I think he’s a creep… but that movie is SO GOOD and the sound design is TOP NOTCH. In fact I might do a double feature of that and BLOW OUT tonight.

Robert N Douglass

That's your mom, Cassie? 😂💗 She looks just my own mom did back in the day!

Clay F

Looking forward to Cold Mountain. I like that movie. Looks like your oldest will reach your height before long -- after a growth spurt or two.

Cole Jennett

Agreed Jon. Let the top movies have the top odds. Beverly Hills Cop has been #1 for too long, and it’s not even one I’m pushing for.

Cole Jennett

It had no impact (knowing the character prior) on my enjoyment, so I doubt it will have on hers.

Chris Thom

Aww thanks for sharing the photos. I actually legit like hearing/seeing about people's vacations. Don't know if that's weird or not. But I appreciate it. Just saw Cold Mountain again over the weekend, and it's definitely a solid movie but way more brutal than I remembered. Very much a war-time type of movie (US Civil War). Renee is especially good in it. Glad you enjoyed Now and Then. Thought you might. For March I personally think 1 seed should be 1-25 most requested, 2 25-50 most requested, 3 50-75 most...etc. Or maybe even 1-50, etc. Let some of those further down the list have a shot. Could also pair well with the Cinderella thing from the tournament.

Cold Mountain should be a great reaction.. the other two will be new to my eyes.

djKENTO

yeah sure it’s fine… but it’s better with the knowledge of it’s homages and legacy.

Mike Lemon

You may want to catch the Mission Impossible 1 reaction some day. Mother Popcorn was a guest reactor.

Chris Thom

Personally wish The Conversation would have won. Especially for a Gene Hackman poll.

Jacob Antony

Gene Hackman was in Cold Mountain??

djKENTO

yeah Chris, same. This is a Will Smith movie first and foremost and while I think Hackman is acting leagues and bounds ahead of everyone else in the movie, he’s not the focus.

Chris Thom

I still need to see season 2. Was it good? Loved the first season.

Mark T

I've read that 75% of the time we spend with our kids in our lifetime will be spent by age 12 and 90% by age 18. So cherish every moment and every vacation you can! I'm glad you had a nice vacay in Mexico. What a good looking family and your kids look like "mini-mes"

YodatheHobbit

Question if you don't mind answering, if not all good too! - Did your dad used to have blond hair when he was younger? I got my curly blond hair when I was younger from my grandfather. Not that I quite understand it, but I just find it so interesting how genetics with hair color works.

Cole Jennett

I was just in Florida with my parents, my brother and his kids. It was discussed quite a few times that it was likely the last family vacation we likely would have with all of us, because his oldest just graduated High School. Kind of funny how quickly things can change

Chris Retzlaff

It saves me 4 bucks not having to rent Battle for the planet of the Apes at least.

Dan M

Great pics, Cassie! The backdrops are beautiful! I’m glad you all had a great time, despite you catching a stomach parasite 😣. Getting away for awhile and decompressing is so necessary, but as Dorothy famously said, there’s no place like home. Looking forward to the March Madness festivities! I enjoyed it so much last year, especially because it gave me my long anticipated reaction to Mr. Holland’s Opus! However you decide to match the movies up with the teams is fine with me. It will be exciting regardless. Looking forward to Conquest…it is one of the better OG Apes movies, but also because it brings you closer to watching the reboots…they’re SO GOOD!!

Josh Heinen

It was good! But of course, each season is its own set of characters. It gets better and better every week.

🚩

Cassie has a stomach parasite. I told her not to drink the water!!!!!!! Oh wait, I didnt. I meant to.

🚩

Cold Mountain: Last of the OG Planet of the Apes!!!

Matthew Folz

As far as TV recommendations.... if you have Hulu I highly recommend Paradise. Episode 7 in particular is not only the best hour of tv I've watched all year, but if you put another half hour/45 minutes onto it and released it in theaters it would have been one of the best action movies of the last few years.

kaiielle

Lovely photos! Glad you had a great time.

Donald Fleming

Can't go from Beneath the Planet of the Apes to Conquest of the Planet of the Apes without watching Escape from the Planet of the Apes in between. It helps to explain how the talking apes came into existence.

Matthew Folz

Season 2 was okay, not as good as season 1. But Season 3 so far is shaping up to be the best of the 3.

Anthony Carlson

Cold Mountain…it’s been a while…. For something I enjoyed watching lately? Saw the movie Queen of the Ring on Sunday night (there was only 3 people in the theater, myself included) and it was quite good! You can tell I’m a wrestling fan 😂 You can blame Jim Cornette for that (I learned a lot from him). Looks like you enjoyed yourself in Mexico along with the whole family! I miss Florida already from last year and I hope I can go next year so I can see the Tigers for a Spring Training game…speaking of sports, the Pistons are in, the Red Wings are falling apart, the Tigers are getting ready for the baseball season, and the Lions….we’ll see what happens. MSU on the other hand, basketball outright conference regular season champions! Go Green!

Bill W

She would never get the reaction done in time for St. Patty's Day...unless we make it a St. Patty's MONTH! I'd love for her to watch In the Name of the Father. If not that, then The Wind that Shakes the Barley.

cfb0453 (Chris)

Ay, caramba Cassie! it looks like Mexico agrees with you. You look gorgeous! Sorry to hear about the sunburn though - but it doesn't look that bad. I myself can't tan at all. I usually just turn lobster red, and then shed about 10 layers of skin 3 days later, like some sort of reptile. Try some Aloe Vera on your sunburn. That should cool and soothe, as well as minimise any peeling. So, Enemy of the State huh, here we go. Another headache inducing Tony Scott movie with Will Smith, doing what he does best ... nothing. At least Gene Hackman and Jon Voight will bring the best they have, even though Gene doesn't show up until half way through. Oh well, 50% of Hackman is still better than 100% of ... well, just about anything. Probably understandable that the OG Ape movies aren't going to continue. I think you saw the best of them with Escape and the original. Conquest is pretty good too, can't wait for that one! Will you guys still be doing a youtube edit for Escape, I certainly hope so. As for JFK, the 3.5 hour version is the director's cut and the extra 30 minutes really doesn't add anything significant to it. If you can find the 3 hour theatrical release, I think you'll find that to be a much stronger narrative ... and try not to take it too seriously like some people have. Think of it as the ultimate episode of CSI, that just happens to be based on a true story!! Good luck and Godspeed.

Bill W

She needs to do a Tom Cruise month and get them all out of the way.

Alex Gorell

I’ve been watching. Dark winds on Netflix. It’s pretty good I’m enjoying it.

Thoko

I gotta admit its funny reading Cassie using gangsta rap slang like "OG". Its like hearing the innocent young mother you met at church talking about the hood.

Michael West

Welcome back. Glad you all had such a great time. Enjoy the time with your kids. You blink and they are grown. Looks like a week of great movies. I think you will enjoy them all. Keep up the great content.

Thoko

I love how in the one photo everyone except grandpa got the memo about the hawaiian shirt/dress. Grandpa defiantly refuses to wear one

Edward M. Crowe

Definitely looking forward to seeing the new series with you, starting with "Rise", but there was one version of the older series that IS worth watching, before jumping directly to the "reboot" (as I understand your intentions). That was "#6" in the series, the 2001 "Planet of the Apes", with Mark Wahlberg, Kris Kristofferson and others. A budget of $100 million and total gross of $362 million, whereas the movie you have listed here, "Conquest of Planet of the Apes", had a budget of only $1.7 million, and grossed only $9.7 million. I.e. the Wahlberg version had a budget 59 times as great, with revenues 37 times as great, as "Conquest", so it would seem funny to watch "Conquest" and not watch "Planet" (2001) ?? As for chronology, Wikipedia says: "It [Wahlberg] grossed $362.2 million worldwide, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2001. Despite its financial success, Fox chose to cancel the sequel, and later rebooted the film series in 2011 with 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' ". So that is how we get to "Rise" out of the original series. Again, another good reason to watch the Wahlberg version.

Eddie Perkins

It looks like some great films are coming up. I understand why you can't show your children, but you have a beautiful family. I remember spending every summer from the age of 5 to 20 with my parents and grandparents and my younger brother, who was 4 years younger, and my sister, who was 6 years younger, at our summer home on the Atlantic Ocean, and those are some of my best memories. Now that everyone in my family is dead and gone, memories are all I have. Every chance you get, spend it with your family, making memories; trust me, you won't regret it.

Chris Thom

She said on the podcast last week that she's watching it. And enjoys it a lot. And doesn't understand why nobody seems to be talking about it.

Bill W

Drinking game for JFK: Take a drink every time Cassie recognizes a face, but doesn't know the name (or where she knows them from). So many people in that movie.

Happy Hanukkah

"I honestly can't wait to be back in bed watching a good flick with all of you." Count me out. Way too crowded! :-) "On YT it will be Beneath Apes" Again, count me out. Get those darn dirty apes off me!

Mark Vaderr

Welcome back, Cassie! Where do we go to submit our pick-a-flick? With March Madness coming up are we still going to have a competition amongst the other Patreon members and the winner gets to choose a movie for you to watch? All set for Conquest of the Apes, and Enemy of the State will be a fun watch. Take care, Cassie! All the best!

Tyler Foster

How do you always get sick? You're cursed...

Tyler Foster

The theatrical might be best, but FWIW, this is a case where the theatrical version is going to be slightly less accessible for people.

Joel Wayne

Welcome Home! I really liked the randomness of drawing movies to pair with each Basketball team in March Madness and hope you decide to do it that way again this year.

David Bennett

Cassie, I'm SURE that having three youngsters contributes at least SOMETHING to the germ-a-thon.....

TheSingulatarian

We are going to have to put Cassie in a hermetically sealed bubble. like John Travolta in that made for TV movie from the 1970s.

shireknight

Wow your kids really are the spitting image of their father 🤣

Chris Thom

But with the heart of a LION. You watched The Shining, What Lies Beneath, IT, Saw, We Were Soldiers, Full Metal Jacket, Scream, Apocalypse Now...Son in Law, etc, etc. like a CHAMP.

Chris Thom

Might to be hard to tell with some of them. Some WILD eyebrows in this one.

Ted Whalen

Those are great family photos. The family vacations are always great times! I am a bit of a traditionalist and would recommend pairing the top rated movies with the top rated teams (rather than a random draw). However, it should still be a good time with either option.

Milton William Burray

Great holiday snaps and great lineup! Cold Mountain 👍 Enemy of the State 👍 Apes 👍

Milton William Burray

J.F.K theatrical Vs. director's cut has been discussed; Perhaps a poll is in order to see which versions are available to most people?

Chris Thom

I do know the fate of the Jennifer Coolidge character unfortunately, just from watching entertainment channels on YouTube. I really need to stop spoiling these things for myself. It's an addiction...started with leadup to the fifth Harry Potter movie.

Gary Granata

Great family pics. Sounds like you drank some of the water there. Excited about March Madness this year my school St Johns is finally in it again. Maybe they face BYU at some point.

MikeLL

Looking at those family pictures it looks like scenes from a movie: Cassie Popcorn in the Planet of Love! Cold Mountain is a great Drama. It will be fun to see some more Gene in a thriller. And count me in for one last OG Apes flick. It might not be a great Friday night movie, but it would make one cool Saturday afternoon matinee or even a Saturday morning watch. Just don't take it serious. As for future movie picks, all I want is Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming. I don't ask for much.

Richard Maurer

Originally for March Madness I was going to say random picks by genre from the top 50, and I was going to ask if the horror genre was going to included (which it should be) but then I realized that there are no horror movies in the top 50 due to the static nature of the list. Any chance of expanding beyond just the 50? Let’s have some fun and make it the top 500. Or go really crazy and make it the top 5000! Anyway if you’re set on 50 for genre picks then I say just go with the top films paired with the top teams and clear out some of the deadwood that has been stuck there for years.

Clarence Newman

Cassie is not giving us her usual beaming smile in any of those pictures. I'm concerned she's been out skateboarding with her son and is waiting till she gets back to the States to visit the dentist. 😢

Above Average Dave

Great photos of the family, Cassie! Glad you got some time to relax! God bless.

Nolofinwe

the Family Looks lovely ... And don't worry about the length of JFK it's gonna go by in an instant and you're gonna love it... You look lovely as usual... Cold Mountain very good book so-so movie

Resul Baggio

Lovely family. Glad you had a good time. Side note; idk who is recommending these movies, but most of these movies are not good "react to" movies. I'm sure you can tell by the low view numbers as well.

Joe

Who's deciding what movies she watches is mostly us, her paying patrons. Most movies that get watched come from polls, always have.

Joe

Good suggestions Richard, picking from Top 500 sounds best to me.

Joe

Redford had a cameo in S4E1, he's 89 this year.

Richard Maurer

Yes we decide. Or more correctly the majority of poll voters decide what gets watched - from the polls choices, which we do not decide. We pick from the choices given to us. Not saying that it’s right or wrong, just that is how it is.

Jason Fulbright

Glad you had fun. When you first said you were going to Mexico, I have to admit, I almost commented on not drinking the water but I didn't want to jinx it. Thanks for sharing the photos, your oldest boy is about to be taller than his momma!

Joe

For the March Madness thingy, please expand out and pick randomly from the Top 500.

Chris Thom

In a LIVE chat she did say she feels 'wild' when she's out in public. All the evidence is there. Stoney glances at the camera, her son's dentist trips, her dentist trips. Underground Amateur Hockey Fight Club. It ALL makes sense now.

Chris Thom

She's pretty much knocked out the biggest react-to ones at this point. And she doesn't much like Scary. But the journey continues. There are a TON of movies in the world.

Clarence Newman

Have to disagree that she's watched most of the big YT react-to films, Chris. I could name 20 off the top of my head and so could you.

Clarence Newman

Scarface, for example! The Fly. Wolf of Wall Street. Lock Stock. Casino. Basic Instinct. We all know those are not in her wheelhouse, but that's not the point we're discussing here.

Chris Thom

Getting harder to tell because reaction channels haven't been around all that long. But 90 percent sure Forrest Gump, Harry Potter, and Interstellar would do big numbers.

Katie Sivak

I’m so glad you had a good trip and your family have fun. I hope you feel better. You’re always getting sick. I hope you start feeling better and staying better. Could you guys maybe watch Mad love and wind River. Also, maybe you could start Wednesday and The Last Of Us season 2comes out in April.

Clarence Newman

Due to my Officer and a Gentleman PTSD, I feel the need to make it absolutely clear to Cassie that Cold Mountain is NOT a rom-com. Given our previous high profile debacle ("Richard Gere's the rom-com guy, right?"), the presence of Rene Zellweger (Bridget Jones), Jude Law (The Holiday) and Nicole Kidman (Far and Away) in the same movie may lead her to believe otherwise and lessen her enjoyment. If this occurs even one more time due to inadequate foreshadowing, I will be severely dischuffed.

Joe

Sometimes we even get a poll to decide on a poll (haha).

Clarence Newman

Agreed Chris, which is why rewatches (of films Cassie's seen but Carly hasn't, or vice versa) should never be off the table. Unstoppable, Castaway, Warrior. The list is as endless as my ability to prattle.

Clarence Newman

Ahhh, the Director's Cut. That's the 5 hour version where Oswald doesn't appear at all and we discover that the real killer was Joe DiMaggio in retaliation for Marilyn Monroe's death. That final headshot was actually a line drive.

Richard Maurer

It doesn’t go to my head at all……Finally! Someone Acknowledges My Greatness!!!!

Uncle Phoenix

I asked ChatGPT and it Seems that Gene Hackman Wasn’t in “Cold Mountain” (2003). BTW; During the reaction video for “The French Connection” Cassie had a “Break”, and I was fulling expecting her to come back from the Break with a full Bronze Tan, Corn Rolls, and a Big Salty Margarita; and just finish strong in all her Canadian-Mexican Splendor. Anyways, can’t hardly wait for “Enemy of the State”; and Cassie’s reaction to Echelon ET AL.

Joe

Personally I don't like re-watches at all. I know some will happen, but please no more than a few each year.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - all the films you mentioned are mid to high mid. The true high-level reaction films - LotR, Star Wars MCU, Private Ryan, Shawshank, etc., - have been done by everyone except the newbies. The OG reactors have been working with second tier and below for awhile now.

Joe

As with all the movies she watches, matters not if she likes it or doesn't. Her reaction can be entertaining either way.

Richard Maurer

Her reaction to Officer and a Gentleman was more entertaining than her normal rom-com ones, imo.

Clarence Newman

I'd generally agree, Joe, but that wasn't the case with Officer and a Gent. Lack of a basic understanding of the type of movie they were getting led to a false expectation of a light, fun couple of hours for Cassie and Carly. Had they known at least the ballpark they were in, I think they'd've enjoyed the experience more. Carly may even have opted out, in which case Cassie's view would have been totally different.

Above Average Dave

Kierkegaard likened each recalled memory of loved ones who have passed to being a prayer for them, and called remembering them actively "the most faithful love."

Clarence Newman

Agreed, Joe - a sprinkling. It would just open us up to some of the great films Cassie was mean enough to watch before we knew her.

Clay F

I agree with Clarence on The Officer and a Gentleman. (1) If she knew was not a rom-com going in, would have been an even better reaction. The dissonance was too much of a distraction. (2) Even without knowing not a rom-com going in, I think Cassie could have fairly quickly expressly recovered without Carly -- and did quietly recover (appreciated aspects) but was arguably inhibited by Carly's contribution (bless her heart). (3) I have rewatched the reaction a couple of times, and think it's good. Both Cassie and Carly became invested and gave animated reactions. I enjoyed the reaction.

My_Cousin_Mose

Looks like you guys had a great time in Mexico! I haven't seen Enemy of the State in a while. It was one of those movies back in the day when it came on tv no matter what part of the movie it was you would sit down and watch the rest of it, at least at my house. And I doubt you'll watch it but I just finished the latest season of Vinland Saga and dang was it good. It definitely has the potential to be my favorite anime when finally finishes in like 5 years.

Clay F

I agree with Joe also: "As with all the movies she watches, matters not if she likes it or doesn't. Her reaction can be entertaining either way." With that said -- can go overboard with the concept of being "blind' going into a reaction. For instance, I believe they should know the genre going in. Thus, avoid irrelevant discussion.

Clarence Newman

Let's be clear on something else - Cassie and Carly can love and hate a movie at the same time. I just rewatched Cinderella Man and it broke both of them for a while. By the end, though, they were exhilarated and calling it one of the best things they'd ever watched. Enjoyment of a film does not necessarily require a lack of jeopardy, tears or heartache. Sometimes that journey makes the final destination all the more sweet.

Canadianant

That Cinderella man reaction is one of the all time greats on the channel. Cassie really took it to heart

Joe

Clarence and Richard...you guys are like oil and water (haha).

Adam Doyle

The kids definitely get their heart shaped heads from your Husband. JK, looks like a great trip. With you never having seen Now And Then (something that I would have assumed you may have seen as a kid) I am wondering what other Coming Of Age movies from the 90's you haven't seen.

Katie Jackson

It could be interesting to do top 100 for half and then 1,000-1,100 for the other half. Really shake things up.

Bill W

600+ movies in 4 years. That's a lot of faces/names/movie titles/character names to store, organize and file away in a short time, compared to the 20-??? years we've all had.

Rose

Great to hear that guys had an unforgettable trip. Not too many great basketball films but remembering Lusia Harris - The Queen of Basketball. She had an incredible life and professional career. That giggle and smile was so endearing. This is a great mini-doc about her https://youtu.be/vPFkcoTfr7g?si=ndLVWNxJk19WZjA0

Stan the Man

You are going to love Cold Mountain

Above Average Dave

Good call. Rose! Does anyone know if Cassie watched GLORY ROAD? Another very good basketball movie about the 1966 Texas Western team (Now known as Univerity of Texas El Paso, or UTEP.

Odd Thomas

Cold Mountain is grim but really really good

Chris Thom

Yeah same. I was fairly certain she would've seen that already. Like more than any other movie on the channel.

Chris Thom

Yeah I just watched it and it didn't strike me as a movie she would particularly love. But maybe appreciate? Not sure with this one. It's kind of a strange movie.

Chris Thom

Hoosiers is the only basketball one I've heard her mention. And Love and Basketball.

Cody Cameron

i think she should watch all 5 and watch battle for the planet of the apes for completion sake

Ignis Rændl

Good Call Callmewheels!! I think i recommended "Cold Mountain" to Cassie in YT comments after C&C enjoyed "The Patriot". both are brutal u.s war period dramas, but i thought both sisters would enjoy Cold Mountain more because of the love story element. anyways, enjoy everyone!

Thoko

If a movie is being watched for "completion sake", then you are implying that the film is not enjoyable. I don't think that's worthwhile

Clarence Newman

Mostly I'm against watching an entire series just for completion sake, but it's not a straightforward thing. For example, I don't like these OG Apes sequels and wanted her to skip to the reboots after the first one. But I'm a huge Rocky fan, and if someone had said to me back then, "So Cassie should skip Rocky 5 then?" - my response would've been a pained "Ah." Crocodile Dundee is a different kind of example. Some would say there's only 3 movies so why not watch them all. I'm a massive Croc Dundee fan, but while I always wanted Cassie to watch 2, I would not recommend her wasting a slot on 3. Move on to better films.

Thoko

After reading your comment, I decided to buy The Patriot on Amazon Prime and have just finished downloading Cassie and Carly's reaction. Thanks

Thoko

I'm of similar age to Cassie and I had never heard of Now and Then until Cassie's reaction

Wesley White

Such cute pics of you and the family on vacation, good for you Cassie, and may I just say that you look absolutely beautiful in that red dress, love it! Hate to break it to you, but "Conquest for the Planet of the Apes" is not the last one of the OG's, it's second to last! "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" is the last one, so in total there are 5! I'm looking forward to seeing you react to the prequels/reboots, they're awesome! I've seen "Cold Mountain" once, it's an interesting movie, I've never seen "Enemy of the State"! At least one of us had a good week, work has really been kicking my rear end, I ended up popping my shoulder the other day, YEEEOUCH!!! As for any movies I've watched lately, I actually went ahead and re-watched "Iron Will", I enjoyed every minute, reminicing of my father and I when we watched it when I was a kid with our pet dog Hoser, and then I cried my eyes out at the end lol! Trust me Cassie, you and Carly will enjoy that movie and I still hope you'll react to it someday! I'll be re-submitting my Pick-A-Flick "Cutthroat Island" very soon, I'm not giving up on that one until it wins lol! Hope you and the family have a good weekend, love and support always and God bless y'all🥰😇🙏🤗😁😉👍✌🌹

Grégory Gautier

Glad you all had such a great time! I'm going to watch the reaction to ‘The French connection’, as I'm French, I don't want to miss it! Otherwise I saw this week “Under Suspicion” with Liam Neeson, not a bad movie!

Joe

Robocop 2 is my PAF every month, okay I might switch it up with Highlander 2. 😆😆😆

Clay F

Conquest is the last one of the OG's for her -- she has decided to skip Battle, as suggested by most of us. Agree that Cold Mountain is interesting. Take it easy at work -- hope your shoulder is ok.

Clay F

Patriot is an emotional reaction for Cassie. I can't remember what version she reacted to.

Clay F

Clarence, don't forget "The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee" (2020).

Joe

@Clay, PAF has been good so far, be interesting when she pulls a real niche/obscure film...so far Cassie must be feeling lucky, LOL.

Joe

For targeted 50's Horror polls, I put these (14) in a random generator. Good selection I'd say. This is ready to go Cassie, Lol. Poll A Curse of the Demon (1957) Horror of Dracula (1958) House of Wax (1953) The Crawling Eye (1958) The Mummy (1959) The Night of the Hunter (1955) Poll B Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) The Blob (1958) The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) The Fly (1958) The Thing from Another World (1951) Them! (1954)

Marcus Perriello

I hope JFK wins! Such an enthralling film with tons of intrigue, drama and suspense.

Clarence Newman

Marcus. I see you had fat finger trouble with your first attempt to post. Happens to me all the time. Just so you know, you can go in to the one below and delete if you want. Just hover your mouse over the right hand side of the post and the option to Edit or Delete will come up.

Richard Maurer

Nice. Except for Night of the Hunter, which sticks out like a sore thumb with ‘I don’t belong here’ written on it.

Richard Maurer

It will start to be interesting when she pulls a real niche/obscure film, imo, preferably The Final Programme.

Richard Maurer

You’re going into the desert which would you rather have with you, water or oil?

Byrd N. Hand

Of course, the titular character of "The French Connection" is ironically played by a Spanish actor. 🤨

Clarence Newman

Horror of Dracula is the best from Poll A. From Poll B, I'd go with Them! Scared the Horlicks out of me as a kid.

Joe

@Richard, I will replace Night of the Hunter, what would you suggest to replace it?

Clarence Newman

Don't ask him, Joe, I'm clearly the expert here! I'd go with The Time Machine, which is sci-fi horror. I know it came out in 1960, but it was filmed in 1959 and therefore counts.

Joe

She will definitely react to The Last of Us S2, that's confirmed. As for any other TV show, a poll would go up for patrons to choose a show.

Katie Sivak

Maybe Cobra Kai

Byrd N. Hand

I'm generally against 'franchise gatekeeping,' but there are definitely times when a sequel is pretty much universally despised ("Hannibal Rising" and Jaws 3 & 4 come to mind), and it's probably better if a reactor skips it. But I think arguments can be made for 'mixed opinion' if the reactor is willing to listen to them. Such so-called 'mixed opinion' sequels/prequels I personally don't mind: Godfather III Terminator 3 Matrix 2 & 3 Jurassic Park II & III Indiana Jones 4 Prometheus Mad Max 3 Red Dragon & Hannibal all the James Bond movies all the Harry Callahan movies French Connection II The Two Jakes

Sean

I love Enemy of the State. I can’t wait to see your reaction.

Richard Maurer

I guess The Time Machine could be sort of considered horror, the Morlocks anyway.

cfb0453 (Chris)

Don't listen to them Joe, Night of the Hunter is a masterpiece! And it does qualify as a horror, way ahead of its time!!!

Richard Maurer

Never said anything about the quality of the film. But it’s definitely not a horror film.

Al Swearengen

I can't believe you're doing Cold Mountain. One of my favorite movies. It's such an incredible film, but it never got it's due. The only explanation I can come up with is that the love story is not believable. Otherwise, it's a masterpiece. I absolutely love Renee Zellwegger's character. She deserves an Oscar for her role.

Richard Maurer

Byrd - other than Red Dragon she could skip most of your list and I’d be fine. On the other hand I wouldn’t be that upset if she did anything from your list other than Indy 4 and the Matrix sequels, but in general I would think there are much better things she could be watching. I love horror films , loved her reaction to Halloween (just watched it again last night) - if she said she was going to watch Halloween 2 & 3, I would tell her okay, not really necessary, but please don’t go beyond that. Even the “okay” (mediocre) sequels should be avoided - there’s so much good stuff waiting to get watched why get bogged down with “okay” sequels?

Byrd N. Hand

See, Richard, and those are 2 sequels that *I* would prefer her to skip (the vast majority of horror sequels suck anyway). Different strokes for different folks. And there will always be the 'Watch it and decide for yourself; don't let others decide your opinion for you' crowd. But the bottom line is that, sequel or not, there are always going to be a good portion of movies that a reactor watches that you either don't like or just plain don't interest you. Frankly, I usually feel lucky when a channel generally watches 30-40% of movies/TV shows that I like/interest me. For one to ever surpass 50%, I'd need a lot of good fortune. 🤔 P.S. Cassie has already watched "Reloaded" and "Crystal Skull," although the latter has been blocked... though it could suddenly magically become unblocked one day the way "Jurassic World" (more sequels I don't care about; how were more people not sick of this premise after the 3 JP movies? 🤷‍♂️) did.

Joe

Cassie has said "Collateral" will be her April PPOTM...just wanted to get that out here in writing...haha.

Richard Maurer

My point was much as I like Halloween I would never ask her to watch its mediocre sequels, let alone the bad ones. There are way too many original horror movies she hasn’t seen to waste time on sequels. I feel the same about ALL genres.

Richard Maurer

One of the reasons I like her reaction to The Crow so much (just watched it again last night) is while she didn’t love it, she didn’t hate it either. And she was definitely invested in the story, wanting to see those “sickos” get what they deserved.

Chris Thom

At the time of release I think it came out right before the cut off for the Oscars. So it was recognized by the awards shows before many got a chance to see it. Does feel kind of forgotten. With that period after 9/11 perhaps not that many were up for a brutal Civil War movie.

Clay F

I am very much looking forward to that reaction. An awesome movie. I like the soundtrack.

Clay F

I am not really familiar with the movies, but of the two polls, The Night of the Hunter is the No. 1 movie I wanted to see. The Google page for the movie gives the genre as "Thriller/Noir".

Mike Lemon

She also said Saw was "coming next week". That took two years. Don't count your weasels before they pop.

David

laurel and hardy way t out west very very funny Cassie's cant stop Laughing make her tears of laighter

YodatheHobbit

Looking forward to Conquest because it's the movie from this series I've most forgotten.

Richard Maurer

I guess you can call anything horror if you want to. To me, The Lord of the Rings is a lot closer to horror than Night of the Hunter, but they still are not horror films.

3dbadboy1

No Escape? Did I miss something?

The Night of the Hunter is an amazing movie, with a great story, beautiful cinematography, a massive amount of symbolism, and an outstanding performance by Robert Mitchum.
