Hey beautiful people! So I randomly stumbled upon a "making of' Twister type thing and I was so into it even though the people writing it clearly hated Bill Paxton and how dare they!? RIP my friend

ANYWAYS Kind of got me on a natural disaster movie craving thingy so here we are! Also my little girl calls Tornadoes-Tormadoes so I'm just in this element right now.

Thanks so much for your suggestions for this poll! I have already seen before the channel-San Andreas, The Impossible (absolutely wrecked me) The Day After Tomorrow, Everest, Sully, Contagion and Outbreak (nightmares for years about this one) I still do not know if I have seen Armageddon or not, I am not including it in the poll!

After researching some of these choices, I think I also want to do a "Survivors Poll" soon, I have seen The Martian and 127 hours and loved them both-things like the grey, the revenant, Alive, rescue dawn-any insight you guys have for this?

Update post coming at you ASAP

Ps-Want to know something kind of funny? I went to go put Joe and the Volcano and St. Elmo's Fire on this poll because I have seen them suggested so much but then realized not natural disaster movies at all haha

Pss-I'll watch the top two winners!

Comments

Mike LL

Yeeeeeeesssssssss! I so wanted this poll Today! And I want a Disaster Theme Week for the top three movies from this poll!

Matt

The perfect storm is so good.

ShazD

Deep Impact all the way. Pls don't WATCH Dante's Peak it's garbo šŸ˜

Cassie Tremblay

oooh yes i forgot about that idea, lets do it, ill just see if i can work it in the schedj this month

Gabriel L.

Voters: I think C would really love the romantic + family angle of Dante's Peak! Plus with her watching Pierce Brosnan's James Bond recently, it'd be a nice comparison.

trey stevenson

Only the Brave is a true story and a very good movie. Itā€™s the second best firefighter movie with Backdraft being the best.

Bryan Erickson

Danteā€™s Peak is poorly acted with bad dialogue but itā€™s soooo good! šŸ¤ž

Matthew Dedman

Would love to see your reaction to "As above so below" if it ever gets on a poll

Rollo Tomassi

Is hating Bill Paxton a thing? Like ā€¦ how? Heā€™s great! šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Toukie

No day after tomorrow? :(

JC762

St. Elmo's Fire....LOL

Gabriel L.

Nooooo! Dante's Peak is maybe not *great* but it's much better than, say, Volcano (bleh). I have a nostalgic soft spot for Dante's Peak, I'd love to see her react to it. That being said I know realistically it won't win the poll, so maybe another time. I would gladly take Deep Impact in the meantime though, it is a good one!

Steven Ashford

Iā€™m game for anything you watch. Have you seen the new trailer for a true story baseball movie called The Hill. OMG. Thought of you and Carly immediately!

FrozenRope

Yall really don't want her to watch Only the Brave? Voting on some dumb stuff

Brian Pelts

Obligatory GenXer voting for the 70's disaster epics, nothing to see here. šŸ˜„

Zane From Canada

Dante's Peak, Towering Inferno, The Perfect Storm, The Poseidon Adventure, Only The Brave. Any 2 of these 5 will be perfect. šŸ˜

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

For the Survivors poll, The Grey and The Revenant are great choices, I'd also suggest The Way Back and In The Heart of the Sea, oh, and Everest, all but The Grey are based on true stories. Also, Joe Vs The Volcano isn't necessarily a disaster movie but it is great.

Mike Stevenson

2012. it's so bad it's great

carbsix

Watch Perfect Storm with Carly... you'll both be sobbing messes

Raven Dark

Alive is a great movie. Hard to watch in parts, but so good. And it's based on a true story.

Matt Rose

THE TOWERING INFERNO and THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE should be at the top of your list. Both of them represent the apex of the 70s disaster films and are rightly considered to be classics. Of the more recent films, I highly recommend ONLY THE BRAVE. That was directed by the guy who did TOP GUN: MAVERICK and provides a true emotional journey along with the disaster scenes. Excellent movie.

Mike LL

I voted for Dante's Peak, The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. My beloved Airport is not in the poll, but I will get over it! šŸ˜‚ But please, my fellow Patrons, don't vote in 2012! We want a real Disaster movie, not Fantasy! šŸ˜‚

Katie Jackson

Into The Storm is good and reminds me a bit of Twister. You might have to make it a Cassie Pick but, it's worth watching.

Bryan Erickson

Agreed. Heā€™s seems like one of those guys Iā€™ve never heard a bad word about.

J.J

I know you mentioned Armageddon but it's a must see if you haven't. Perfect popcorn movie, bring your sister too!

zynjams

why would you say that? perfect storm would not be good for the hosts

Angel Torres

Only the Brave is a true story and a great movie. This should be on your watch list.

Matt Rose

it's THAT'S ARMAGEDDON (from the KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE) made into a full length film.

Philip Alan

Yeah not my fav. I prefer that other awful movie Volcano instead! Ha! Theyā€™re both ridiculously fun

Brian McGovern

I am surprised Danteā€™s Peak is getting a lot of love. I would hope 13 lives gets a lot of traction. I have not seen it myself, but if it is about what I think it is about, it would make for a great reaction. Directed by Richie Cunningham.

Terry Yelmene

It seems each and every poll PiB offers up is compelling with several great choices that are difficult to decide between. This one is NOT! It's perfectly evident that 'The Perfect Storm' is a perfect film for Cassie and Carly to react to. The others are NOT!

Matt Rose

One I think you'd really like: GREENLAND, with Gerard Butler. It's only a few years old and is akin to DEEP IMPACT and ARMAGEDDON in terms of premise. The difference is that the film focuses exclusively on Butler and his family rather than being omniscient...you only have the information that they have. It's one of the 'good' Butler films and has a great emotional journey to carry you along. A sequel is in the works too.

Wyatt Nuxoll

Can you count V for Vendetta as a survivor movie , I hope so . You should watch it , Cassie it is a great film starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving

James UK

So many good movies on this list.

Luke Godfrey

I really hope Danteā€™s Peak wins, or if not is the runner up. Itā€™s one Iā€™ve been hoping Cassie watches for a while now.

Mike LL

It's kinda breaking my heart here to see the two disaster classics from the 1970's are not in the leaders here, because I voted for both. Both so much better than The Perfect Storm.

Ted Little

Strictly speaking, The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure are manmade not natural disasters. I voted for Dante's Peak because it has a story with real people.

Kat Farlowe

It may be garbage to some but a guilty pleasure to me. One of my favorite disaster films.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

As far as survivor stories go... The Mountain Between Us Life of Pi Into the Wild The Revenant Rescue Dawn All is Lost Jungle Unbroken Martha Marcy May Marlene (cult survivor)

Jens Kristensen

"The Towering Inferno" for the win!

ExploreWinnipeg

I was recently in Quebec and deep impact was on the television. It was in French but I got the gist of it

Greg S.

Gotta keep that Pierce Brosnan train rolling with Dante's Peak,

Odd Thomas

More people need to watch Only The Brave

Jay

Deep Impact is so good. one of my favorites

Terry Yelmene

@carbsix - "perfect description" of exactly how that C&C react will go. It would be perfect!

Adam Doyle

For the Survival Movie: 47 Meters Down (sharks), Open Water (sharks), Cast Away (Tom Hanks)

rakesh

Thirteen Lives, has the main man Viggo Mortensen aka Ed Harris. Also directed by Ron Howard. The towering Inferno has Paul Newman and Steve Mcqueen. The Posiden Adventure has Gene Hackman! Two classics and one based on a true life story. I liked the Perfect Storm but I don't think Cassie will because of [spoiler]. But instead everyone is voting for cheesy dantes peak and deep impact lol. This truly is a disaster poll

vito virgilio

Only the Brave is a must watch for you and your sister. Sadly I donā€™t think it will win many polls NOT because itā€™s a bad movie but simply because itā€™s not as well known as many of the other disaster movies. But it is definitely a perfect movie reaction for you and your sister and it is based on a true story.

Jess Henshall

For me anything thatā€™s a true story gets the vote so for me Only The Brave, The Perfect Storm and Deepwater Horizon are the winners.

Sophie Gallo

Only the Brave, Thirteen Lives, and Deepwater Horizon are all incredible movies, and true stories! They should definitely be on your list for the future

Stranger2Reality

It's hard to keep track of everything you've seen, so maybe you've seen these, but there's a couple good Tom Hanks movies for your survivor poll: Cast Away, Apollo 13 and Captain Phillips. I'd also suggest The Edge, Into the Wild, Touching the Void, Everest, Open Water, and the excellent Steven Spielberg WWII epic, Empire of the Sun. This might not qualify, but I'd also suggest First Blood (the first Rambo movie), which is an excellent film and is a different kind of survivor film.

Bill Maurer

Towering Inferno (King of Cool Steve McQueen WITH Paul Newman) Poseidon Adventure (Gene Hackman & Ernest Borgnine)

James Young

Only the brave is an excellent emotional movie based on real people and real events. It will have you crying.

Daniel Roberts

For me it was a tossup between 2012 and Deep Impact. I went with 2012 because I felt it had the better ending.

Robert da Spruce

For the survivors poll (would also qualify for disaster poll), I would like to suggest Daylight (1996) starring Sylvester Stallone, his late son Sage, Viggo Mortensen, and Amy Brenneman.

Stick Figure Studios

Not my favorite genre, but there are some fun entries here. I'll vote for the original 70s disaster flicks and maybe one or two decent remixes from the 90s (like DEEP IMPACT and DANTE'S PEAK)

Jessamyn J

Q: Have you seen Volcano (1997) with Tommy Lee Jones? I remember seeing it and Dante's Peak, can't remember it's quality but I would love to revisit it!

Edgar Gonzalez

I would have hoped to have seen "Volcano" with tommy lee jones or Armageddon with Bruce Willis... but Deep Impact and Dante's peak are my top picks for this poll!

SeanATX

Love a disaster movie. Would have liked to see Volcano but Deep Impact is the better.

Stranger2Reality

Yeah, like I said, it's hard to keep track of everything she's seen, and she might have already seen some of those. Was that the only one she's already seen?

Dryfesands

"Thirteen Lives" is superbly well made and thrilling, its *everything* Cassie would love, and unlike much else on this list (Some of which is dross, 2012, seriously?) It also really happened. Its brilliant

Mike Lemon

+1 for Alive, but sorry, that would be my vote, so it has no chance.

TigerDelta

Thirteen Lives is so underrated. I was really surprised at how tense, emotional, and informative it is.

Terry Yelmene

@Mike LL - I hate to say this, but for me, those dreadfully dated, and overtly sensationalized, low brow '70 suggestions were bad when they came out. Worse, re-visiting them now, seems like a pretty bad idea.

Shawn Kildal

Hoping for Dante's Peak but Deep Impact would be a heck of a consultation prize! Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll do both!

Kat Farlowe

In my opinion, these should not have all been lumped together since some are tragic true stories. Deepwater Horizon, The Perfect Storm, Only the Brave, and Thirteen Lives aren't fun films because people actually lost their lives. They are good films because they are true, but I don't watch to see how many ways people can get killed off. They are Survivor films. However all the others are fiction and made for the guilty pleasure of watching people endure the disaster and see who will live and who will die. The spectacle of the disaster is why I watch them.

rakesh

Survivors Poll. its like one man / woman fighting Against all odds. Castaway, I Am Legend, The Omega Man, Alive, Life of Pi, Gravity, All is Lost. All is lost stars Robert Redford and only him. So there's not a lot of talking, literally 3 lines. great movie though. Gravity is the only one I can think of that ihas a female lead.

James Moy

For me it's Dante's peak. A) I honestly think she will love it. B) it'll make for a great reaction video. C) it's the only one where the science is somewhat accurate.

Jeff Webb

I have a guilty pleasure love of Volcano - it's pretty ridiculous but a fun movie.

Robin Craft

As far as a Survivalist Poll, how do we feel about Cassie watching "The Purge" with Ethan Hawke?

Pickupthepieces76

Lots of good movies in there. Dantes peak is easily one of the worst, but probably well known to most patreons. It still an okay watch though. Was hoping for movies from different era's. Looks like movies from '97 and '98 in the lead now. Voting for the 70s movies and hopefully squeeze one in there.

Mike LL

Terry, yes it is funny how bad ideas to some is nostalgia to others! šŸ˜‚ I wanted to see one or both of those cheesy disaster picks from this poll! Maybe one day. It might be cheese, but delicious cheese it is!!

Julie

While I don't think it qualifies as a natural disaster movie, I have to go with The Towering Inferno. Not only is it a great movie, but damn! The star power alone makes it amazing.

Paul Stelter

TOWERING INFERNO isn't a natural disaster movie (it's man-made), but it's Paul Newman and Steve McQueen so pretty sure she's not gonna mind...

LuMarq

I guess it's not a 'natural' disaster so it makes sense it wouldn't be on this list but the 1983 TV film "The Day After" is also a great watch. I don't know if I dreamed this but I always thought "The Day After Tomorrow" was intended as a spiritual sequel that dealt with a potential catastrophe resulting from extreme climate change while the original film dealt with the after effects of a nuclear war. Anyways, I searched for a bit but I couldn't find any interviews or articles confirming this, but if it weren't true that's one hell of a coincidence in movie titles lol EDIT: I'm really pulling for The Towering Inferno!! Let's go!!!!

djKENTO

Deepwater Horizon is the most underrated film on this list. It is genuinely terrifying and made me rethink our entire society and how dependent we are on oil. Itā€™s also one of the most visually striking films on this list.

Mark Shampine

Technically, Deepwater Horizon isnā€™t a NATURAL disaster movie, but itā€™s still very good! šŸ˜

diego kontarovsky

armageddon (1998) is a lot more fun than deep impact (1998) so i would recommend that. i would also recommend volcano (1997), although i think danteā€™s peak (1997) is better. another good one is hard rain (1998). and i donā€™t know if this would be considered disaster or survivor, but check out daylight (1996). itā€™s about a group of people trapped in a flooding tunnel and it stars your old buddy sylvester stallone

Mike LL

I agree 1000%. I want to see the cheesy disaster movies with the superficial people and there are always a few shady people who get offed! That is the fun of it, the true life stories would be better in another poll.

Dave

All are great as always. BUT Thirteen Lives blew me away. Best movie to come out of 2022 behind Top Gun in my opinion. I was thinking about that movie for 2 days after. Regardless of poll winners I recommend you all check it out if you haven't yet.

Grad

Only the Brave gets my vote.

Jake McNulty

"Rescue Dawn" is absolutely a good one for a survivor film poll. I'd also recommend "The Flight of the Phoenix" (1965), "Walkabout" (1971) and "Deliverance" (1972).

rakesh

lol, i think you could put all horror movies into this. Saw, The Cube. The Thing. Circle The Mist, Deep Sea Blue, The Meg, Underwater, Event Horizon. Evil dead, Dawn of the Dead.

Grad

I'll add The Brave Little Toaster to that list.

Jordan Murphy

Typical Disaster films tend to be pretty God-awful... I've seen maybe 2/3 of these and none of them really stand out, other than *maybe* Deep Impact. So I voted for that. Honestly, if you didn't watch any of these, you'd be just fine, LOL! The Day After Tomorrow, though not on the list and not very scientifically accurate, I think is also "good" (relatively speaking of course).

Jordan Murphy

Just did a quick Google search for Disaster movies... I think you've already seen Twister if I'm not mistaken but that's good. Other pretty good ones are Daylight and Gravityā€¦ and I heard Armageddon was decent (though I personally haven't seen it).

Biggman83

Towering inferno is my #1 choice. Itā€™s a classic, followed by Dantes Peak and Perfect Storm. Iā€™d be happy with any of them disaster movies are one of my fav genres! This list should have ā€˜donā€™t look upā€™ on it! Survivor movies Iā€™d go with 13 Hours, Daylight, Cast Away (if itā€™s not been watched), Buried, A Quiet Place, 12 Years a Slave.

Kat Farlowe

Regarding my earlier comment, you could take all the true stories out of this poll and put them into your survivors poll. That is where they should be.

nick bell

Deep impact.. If only for the effects, which still hold up pretty well. Solid story also

Kevin Hooper

Danteā€™s Peak gets my vote. As an aside, you mentioned Joe vs the Volcano, which is worthy of viewing on another occasion.

David Bunnetto

Is Die Hard With A Vengeance still gonna happen at some point?

TwistedMagoo

Deep Impact and Dante's Peak are probably the best two movies here...although Deepwater Horizon exceeded my expectations when I saw it.

Singing Wordwright

Danteā€™s Peak is so underrated. Itā€™s just a wonderfully made movie. The music is especially good. From the credits sequence on, when the filmaker has you looking at one thing, only for the surprise to come from another thing you didnā€™t even notice, itā€™s terrific.

GƔbor Ɓrki

I'm surprised THIRTEEN LIVES is so behind. It was one of the best movies I've seen in 2022. For survival movies I think both The Revenant and Alive are good. Rescue Dawn is a hard watch being a Vietnam POW movie. I suggest putting POW movies to a separate poll, maybe for a themed WMW. Some additional, less known nominations: THE EDGE (1997) Surviving the Alaskan wilderness with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. WHITE SQUALL (1996) Surviving an ill-fated sailing voyage with Jeff Bridges. THE FINEST HOURS (2016) Based on a true story, a daring rescue attempt of a pair of oil tankers during a blizzard in 1952. (Not sure if it's a true fit for survival movie, it is probably half survival half natural disaster movie. But it would surely make for a great C&C reaction)

Robin Craft

Jordan... according to her post she's seen The Day After Tomorrow, Contagion and The Impossible.

Uncle Phoenix

Nothing against the other movies; but I absolutely loved, ā€œOnly The Braveā€.

jdj830

I know Dr. Strangelove was suggested as a war movie but I think itā€™s more accurately described as a disaster movie - maybe not a ā€œnaturalā€ disaster but then neither are most of the movies on this list. Speaking of nukes, I also think you would enjoy War Games, Fail/Safe and The China Syndrome. I saw someone else recommend Deliverance as a survivor movie - itā€™s great but very disturbing. I would instead recommend Moon (which as a Sam Rockwell fan I think you would love) or Cast Away. For that matter, it could be argued that 2001: A Space Odyssey is both a disaster and a survivor movie - you will get impatient with it, and it really should be seen on a theater screen, but itā€™s so iconic that watching it is as vital to your cinematic education as The Godfather and Star Wars. Anyway on this list I will recommend Towering Inferno because you will be entertained.

Uncle Phoenix

Survivor suggestion; ā€œ13 Hoursā€ or ā€œThe Devil Wears Pradaā€.

Brian Lowery

Volcano was better than Danteā€™s Peak IMO

Bjƶrn Karlsson

Yeah it is and it was in a poll last year in this genre šŸ™‚ Give it a request in popcorn request šŸ™‚šŸ¤©

Neil Varma

Thirteen lives is a masterpiece

Roger Banks

I went with Perfect Storm. Iā€™m not sure itā€™s your cup of tea and itā€™s not cinematically significant but itā€™s a pretty good sea story.

Richard Bourne

Deep Impact (1998) and Armegeddon (1998) cover the same disaster but are very very different movies. What a difference a differnent director makes.

Maria Soberanis

There's a whole scene in Dantes Peak I can't watch. Lake scene ya'll I'm traumatized. Can't do it.

Roger Banks

Please add ā€œBat 21ā€ to your survivor poll. Itā€™s got Gene Hackman and Danny Glover.

Eric Lopez

Only The Brave is a must watch no matter what wins. That movie needs to go on the list of movies to watch.

RavenLord

There are several on here I would love to see with you. I did vote for one, but it's a difficult choice.

Doug Ashby

If you want to bawl your eyes out and ruin the rest of your day, watch ā€œOn The Beachā€ with Gregory Peck.

Sophie Gallo

Maybe some of the true story disaster movies could be watched around the anniversary of when they actually happened? The stories of Only the Brave and Thirteen Lives both took place in June, incidentally.

Matt Winchester

Survivor poll suggestions! "Jungle" with Daniel Radcliffe "Gravity" with Sandra Bullock "The Mountain Between Us" with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba "Daylight" with Sylvester Stallone

Mark M

I thought Only The Brave would have a better showing after seeing how much they enjoyed Miles Teller in Top Gun Maverick plus same director in Joseph Kosinski. Really good movie.

Steve Smith

Deep Impact came out at the same time as Armageddon but is a vastly superior movie. You'll love it. It has Frodo Baggins in it.

John Deardurff

Absolutely! It won't get the votes as it's not well known, but an amazing movie.

Alex Gorell

Into the wild, Life of Pi, Cast Away, The Great Raid are all good survival movies. The Great raid is a war/survival movie so it could be a good war movie Wednesday pick.

Robert da Spruce

ā€œTormadoesā€ very cute šŸ˜Š My niece used to call Alzheimerā€™s ā€œOld Timerā€™sā€. Which is cute. But also kinda sad given the seriousness of the illness.

Gary Trousdale

Castaway is another good survivor movie.

Ria Grix

I remember Deep Impact having a huge influence on all the tabloid news of the day. There seemed to loads of articles like ā€˜what if this happenedā€™ etc

Celeste McAllister

I'll 2nd a 'disastrous week' of disaster movies..What I want is a top requested #'s 51-100 poll, there's a lot of great movies back in the pack, they deserve to be viewed....

John Cranberry

The Poseidon Adventure šŸ„³

Miles E Coburn

Not really a "Disaster Movie" in the usual sense. It's more a character study of the survivors in Australia after a nuclear war with the radioactivity spreading towards Australia and how the people deal with it.

Robert Walker

It also helped that "Armageddon" with Bruce Willis came out that same year.

Miles E Coburn

Not necessarily "better". Different. One tells the story of the government's efforts to deal with the populace ("Deep Impact"), with a "B" story of how to alleviate the threat, while the other ("Armageddon") is strictly focused on the efforts to deal with the threat, with no "B" story.

Miles E Coburn

Yep, "Armageddon" strictly deals with how to alleviate the threat while "Deep Impact" has an "A" story about government efforts to save any potential survivors and a "B" story about dealing with the threat.

Patrick Flanagan

I would definitely recommend something from the "Golden Age of Disaster Movies," the 1970s. THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is probably the finest example of this era and is still one of the best disaster movies ever made.

Mary Alice

Earthquakes=San Andreas I From this list, I voted for Danteā€™s peak and deep impact

Scott Beadle

Only the brave is a criminally underrated movie. It's a tragic true story but shines a light on a bunch of professional firemen that most of the public know nothing about.

Miles E Coburn

Survivor poll: "Book of Eli" (2010) - Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman "The Last Man On Earth" (1964) - Viincent Price - the first (and I think the best) adaptation of Richard Mathison's "I Am Legend" "Soylent Green" (1973) - Charlton Heston

Brian Pelts

Can we include the "nature vs man" subgenre that sprang up after JAWS with all the hilariously bad rip-offs?

KTVindicare

Anything but 2012, that movie is awful. I've seen multiple B grade disaster movies with a more coherent plot and better characters than that movie. Any of the others I'm fine with.

Bert Towle

I hope you'll consider The Day After Tomorrow in the future. It's chilling.

Gideon James

She will not Deep Impact. It has a RT score of 45 for a reason.

kaiielle

Cassie listed the movies she's already seen in this post and TDAT is one of them.

Shawn Hooper

Survivor Poll recommendation: All is Lost (2013) - Robert Redford's best movie IMO.

The Gemini Man

Gotta be The Perfect Storm.

Richard Maurer

@ Nathan Jasper. Bad things happen in it. And as we all know Cassie and Carly can't handle any bad things. /s

ShazD

Have you seen Dante's Peak recently tho... I thought I liked it too but then saw it with an adults eyes lol.

BlueChip300

Thirteen Lives is underrated. It's a touching drama directed by Ron Howard (who also directed Apollo 13 und Rush). And it's with Ed Harris. Or was it Viggo Mortensen?

ShazD

It's an amazing movie with a beautiful James Horner soundtrack.

John P Tucker

Only the Brave is a must watch movie.

Richard Maurer

Maybe it's because I know too much about animals, but all animal survival movies are trashy jokes to me, including Jaws. The animals in those movies are turned into horror movie monsters, and behave nothing like real animals.

ShazD

If you call getting a headache fun then yes.

Chris

As far as Armageddon? Think oil drillers in space and if that doesn't ring any bells then you haven't seen it..

Alan Kobb

Well.....Joe versus the Volcano sort of, kind of is a disaster movie. I mean, a volcano does play an important role, but hey, you would like it, so you should see it! Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, and Meg Ryan plays 3 roles! I'm shocked that you've never seen it!

Doug R

Not been many good movies watched lately.

Adam Doyle

I can see a movie like Jaws, yes... but aren't 47 Meters and Open Water based on true stories?

Larry Darrell

Survivorā€™s Poll Yes. Alive (1993) & The Flight of the Phoenix (1965)ā€¦ Absolute Must Watch.

BlueChip300

Consider THE WAY BACK (2010) for the survivor poll. It's with Colin Farrell, Mark Strong, Saoirse Ronan and Ed Harris (the one and only).

Mark M

Fall(2022)is another survivor movie.

Promiscuous

Alive (1993) is a natural disaster and true story.

TwistedMagoo

loved Gravity in imax...not so much on streaming. One of the very few movies I think actually does need a theater

Mike LL

I agree with you. I see a lot of people bad mouthing the movie and I'm completely surprised. I've always liked and been entertained by Dante's Peak.

Matt Dellarosa

Cassie I was literally thinking recently that I would like to see you react to Dantes Peak. I hope that one wins but if not I hope you still watch it soon. I think you would love it.

Richard Maurer

47 meters and it's sequel were completely made up. Open Water is very loosely based on the a true incident but (SPOILER ALERT) since the the people involved didn't survive no one knows for sure what happened.

Mike Brodeur

Only the Brave is one of my favorite movies. I really hope that one makes it. Its just really well done and took place not far from where I live.

Katie Jackson

You could also do a drawing on the PIB suggestion page again. This time you could maybe do something different with it. So underneath each movie there's genre descriptions. For example Romance. You could then write down the top 10 or 20 movies that have Romance in the description underneath and draw 1 out to watch. It would cover a lot of genre's and probably the first 2 or 3 pages. Just an idea for Cassie to have some Romance without sticking strictly to Rom Coms to find it.

John P Tucker

šŸ‘šŸ», Thirteen Lives is a true story too if you havenā€™t seen it, check it out.

Richard Bourne

LOL. and it asks the question ... Isn't an animal cracker really a cookie? Tune in next week.........

Richard Bourne

Armageddon is a Michael Bay film, so of course the action is going to be over the top. It is a wild ride. Deep Impact seeks to be more realistic and perhaps responsible.

Larry Darrell

The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Infernoā€¦ Two of the Most Fun and Most Emotional Films on the Poll. Also, Where else are you going to find O.J. Simpson rightfully Ordering Paul Newman around.

Cole Jennett

Darn, my attempts to get ā€œThe Hurricaneā€ watched under false pretences didnā€™t work.šŸ˜‚

Andrew Hogan

Cliffhanger for survivor. The opening alone would be worth it.

Larry Darrell

Crap! I forgot about The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) for the Survivor Poll. When I joined this Channel, I messaged Cassie 3 Films for Recommendation, and that was One. The Flight of the Phoenix is 2nded.

Cassie Tremblay

i love that stuff, i never let anyone correct her! except when she was calling doritos ā€œdhiarhettosā€

Larry Darrell

That was the 2nd. Not as Entertaining as the 1st, but still Entertaining nonetheless. The 3rd, Goes itā€™s Own Way, and is just as Entertaining as the 1st.

David Poray

No matter what happens on this poll I would take it as a personal favor if you watched The Poseidon Adventure! Haha

Larry Darrell

I have a friend who Hates Bill Paxton as an actor, even though Bill Paxton is, admittedly, in every one of his Favorite Films.

'Pappy' Johnston

Fun lil' fact ..it's funny you should mention 'The Martian.' Every launch in that movie, (with the exception of the one that went high order and blew up...that was CGI), were made from footage of United Launch Alliance launchs from either Vandenberg Air Force Base California or Cape Canaveral Florida... AND....I worked on, and crawled around inside of, every single one of them. (In case I never mentioned it, I'm a retired Aerospace Launch Vehicle Inspector.) Hope you enjoyed that movie as well. šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ™‚

Mike Lemon

@Raven- The Natural was the only one I could find unless you count Beyond Thunderdome over on Ashliegh's page, but that somehow still lost despite having more votes.

Keith Jones

"Joe Versus the Volcano" IS a disaster movie, a disaster of a movie that is. Tried to watch it in the VHS days, took it out 1/2 way, and returned it to Blockbuster that night, didn't even rewind it because I wanted it out of the house that bad. Apologies to those who love it, I'm sure you despise a film I love...

"The Perfect Storm". An intimate look into fisherman and their close relationship with mother nature. Following a sword boat captain involved in an income seduced profession that breeds pride, hard work and brotherhood. The Perfect Storm is swelled with romance, friendship, shoulder pinching action and an organic look at life in a North East harbor town. Mother natures warm tones and majestic wrath are brought to life by director Wolfgang Peterson and American composer James Horner. Infused with a prime peaking star studded cast, this film has everything you want in a turn of the century blockbusting action/drama.

It's a great story, and though a bit horrific, one I think Cassie will appreciate, though maybe not enjoy... it's hard to enjoy it. I do think she should see it at some point, but as Rick says above, it's not a natural disaster.

Raven Dark

I think I'm a little lost. I wonder if I didn't understand your first comment, Mike. Sorry, I'm probably being dense. I thought you were saying in your first comment that you'd vote for Alive, but it has no chance because the things you pick don't usually win (that's what I mean when I said that's how I feel). But I don't get the connection between that and the Natural being the only one you could find, or Thunderdome. Sorry, I'm not trying to be obtuse, I swear.

Mike LL

It's a much better movie than that. I can watch it again and again.

Larry Darrell

Not my favorite, but I do like it. Admittedly the beginning did bug me, though. I really hate fluorescent lightsā€¦. And things that repeat. But I guess thatā€™s the point.

Keith Jones

"Dantes Peak" has a great vibe to it, yeah it's a terrible disaster, but in a fun summer popcorn action movie way, I own "The Perfect Storm" and as a Sailer haven't even been able to take the plastic off the DVD cover. ā€œThe sea will grant each man new hope, and sleep will bring dreams of homeā€¦ā€ ā€“ Christopher Columbus (and quoted by Marko Ramius, Captain USSR Navy retired)

Mark Vaderr

No "Gojira"? Not voting.

Mike Lemon

You understood my first comment perfectly. In the second I'm saying the Natural is the only movie I have voted for that has won its poll (that I can find). Thunderdome won its poll over on Ashleigh's Patreon but second place was declared the winner. I was just giving a bit more context to the "it has no chance if I vote for it".

Raven Dark

Ah! Haha, sorry, I haz the dumb today. So did Thunderdome lose on Ashleigh's channel by mistake? How the heck did that happen? Maybe she'll end up watching it soon, since Tina Turner is gone. She watches movies from celebs when they pass on.

Wish had included ā€œArmageddonā€ to the pollā€¦ itā€™s a great Bruce Willis movie and I know you would enjoy seeing a Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler love storyā€¦

LuMarq

Also just started watching "The Days" on Netflix. It's a Japanese-produced miniseries focusing on the 2011 Fukushima Disaster. I'm one episode in but I'm hooked. It might be a good follow-up to the Chernobyl reactions if you have room in your schedule.

Mark Daniels

ā€˜The Poseidon Adventureā€™ is an absolute classic!

Larry Darrell

If Armageddon had been in this Poll, Iā€™m almost certain it would have Won. Thatā€™s what We call a Ringer.

Stick Figure Studios

It was definitely a disaster commercially, but not artistically. I also hated it when I first saw it in 1990, but I recently revisited it for the first time since my initial watch and realized that I was wrong. It's brilliant.

fish_thefilmcollector

Deep impact is so slow!! Probably the most boring natural disaster!!

Mannygogou

Another disaster movie I like is THE CORE (2003). The underlying premise of a disaster movie is that "something big" is happening... and so they have to balance the "epicness" of the disaster with maybe the human struggle. Also sometimes the movie is "in fun" of the disaster premise but is it dumb fun or smart fun?

Michael Gilbrook

"Deep Impact" is great, one of the most scientifically accurate space movies, and definitely the best for depicting a cometary or asteroid impact.

Mannygogou

I would have added on this list DAYLIGHT (1996) Sometimes a common guy must stand up against a looming disaster to try and save people... and this time our guy is Sylvester Stallone, (you may know him in such films as Rocky, Cliffhanger and as Starhawk in Guardians of the Galaxy 2) Did I mention Viggo Mortensen shows up?, oh yea... I did mention it last time lol

Mannygogou

but wait, maybe Stallone gets his own poll sometime later. Best to save some of his movies for later.

Shawn Kildal

I think the movie Airport (1970) really started the disaster movie craze in the 70's. I still consider The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno the OG's though. You can't complete this list without them.

Shawn Kildal

As for a "survivors" poll I'd like to suggest The Shallows 2016 (Blake Lively), Deliverance (1972), Greenland (2020), No Escape (2015), and The Pianist (2003). I really think all 4 of these a must, especially the last one I mentioned.

Matthew

2012 is pretty underrated. Crazy CGI

Shawn Kildal

I was also thinking Cujo for the survivor's poll, the last 1/3rd of movie is fits that to a tee. Dee Wallace did a great job in that. Maybe even The Crazies could also somehow fit in?

Shawn Kildal

She stated on this post (if you click on continue reading) that she's seen The Day After Tomorrow

Shawn Kildal

She just watched Overboard with an RT score of 46 and loved it. Most disaster movies aren't highly decorated though.

Shawn Kildal

This is a 10 day poll I just noticed. A lot can happen between now and then.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Personally as well as The Poseidon Adventure & Towering Inferno, another `70`s favourite is the 1971 The Andromeda Strain (though not quite a Natural Disaster). Along with the TV Series Doomwatch & Survivors, certainly opened my eyes to the potential pitfalls of modern life.

Mike Lemon

Yeah, it was the Tina poll. It is unclear why it lost. It could have been a mistake, it could be she just didn't want to watch it, who knows. Her channel, her rules.

Shawn Hooper

Survivor Poll Recommendation: Life of PI (2012) - I never thought of this as a survivor movie but I guess it is. A lot of great movies like this are hard to categorize into a single genre.

Mike LL

I must confess, in the Popcorn Requests app I have only requested 20 movies. I probably should request a lot more. Airport is #7 on my request list, and a dream reaction it would be for me. It did indeed start the disaster movie cycle of the 1970's and laid the template for all those great '70's disaster movies: A big budget, a large group of A list stars, and one elder Golden Era movie star (in Airport it was Helen Hayes, who appeared in some silent movies and was a star in the 1930's).

Richard Maurer

You're both right. Take a dinosaur, add megatons of nuclear radiation - a unnatural, natural disaster!

Steve Grad

Another one that needs to be on the list is Earthquake. You could go with a trio or Irwin Allen disaster movies: Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, Towering Inferno, and for good measure Airport, just because it was the original in a line of many to come.

Rick Williams

I have never heard of Only the Brave and don't know who Miles Teller is. I may know him if I saw him. The name is not familiar. It is the only movie on the poll I don't know.

softshoes

Would love to see you add Don't look Up. I know your list is set but that's such a fun disaster movie with an allstar cast. I can't recall if you've seen it.

Yeoman

I've been through a tornado. Just watching the trailers caused me angst.

Keith Jones

If Cassie watches it, Iā€™ll give it the second chanceā€¦while holding my nose šŸ¤Ŗ

Paul Mellette

Several good choices here. Dante's Peak is my choice. Pierce Brosnan in something other than Bond... James Bond... And it always marvels me just how much the girl who plays Linda Hamilton's daughter looks like a young Linda Hamilton!

Bill W

Dante's Peak over Inferno and Poseiden? Jeez all these Brosnan fans.

Story Archer

It's not Tormadoes???

Story Archer

Heck, if you're going to go for an 'other' Brosnan film, that has to be the Thomas Crown Affair...

Javier Hernandez

Deep Water isn't a natural disaster it was man made by neglect.

Javier Hernandez

Survivor series ... USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage- Nick Cage (2016), The Way Back - Ed Harris (2010), Vertical Limit - Chris O'Donnell & Bill Paxton (2000), Triumph of the Spirit - Willem Dafoe (1989), The Edge - Sir Anthony Hopkins (1997), The English Patient - Ralph Fiennes (1996), Grapes of Wrath - Henry Fonda (1940).

James UK

If youā€™re after a ā€˜lighterā€™ tone for the survivor movies Iā€™ll suggest: Swiss Family Robinson (1960) and Six Days, Seven Nights (1998).

Richard Maurer

Well, a better comedy anyway. That scene in the subway still makes me laugh every time I see it.

Dryfesands

If we're talking survival surely "Alive" must be in the mix?

Marc Peterson

Similar vein to The Perfect Stormā€¦2016 The Finest Hours

Marc Peterson

incredible true story of massive 1952 norā€™easter that causes a T2 tanker to break up off of New England and the greatest attempted small boat rescue in US Coast Guard history. Very true to the story and will keep you on edge of your seat the whole movie. Great cast of Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Eric Bana and Ben Foster. USCG study in mission and courage at sea. Cassie will also love the love story in this one.

Darklighter1138

Only The Brave should really be watched this month. The true story behind it happened in June of 2013 so we are at the 10 year anniversary. It's a movie that will require Cassie's crying towel but it is well worth it.

Darklighter1138

I had the privilege of meeting the Executive Officer of the USCGC Tamaroa, which was the Coast Guard cutter shown in the movie, who was stationed on the ship during the storm. They were involved in rescuing the sailboat shown in the movie as well as rescuing crew members from the downed New York Air National Guard Helicopter. The movie definitely altered a few things but still manage to capture the magnitude of the storm and the dedication of the crew members during the search and rescue.

Steve Slatten

ā€œTowering Infernoā€ is e-p-i-c and has Steve McQueen at the top of his game. ā€œDeep Impactā€ is awesome, though

Danny T

The Perfect Storm is about the most dangerous job!

Colin Gutierrez

I saw The Poseidon Adventure on network television when I was a little kid and I remember being so invested in these people getting out of this ship. It was one of the first things I watched that wasn't a cartoon or science fiction that I actually was engaged by.

Aaron Ritchie

Iā€™m so glad youā€™ve decided to do three winners now, since for me these polls are cursed; my pick ALWAYS comes in a close third place, without fail.

MertzRocks

Far too many comments now! LOL I've actually seen more than one or two of these! haha... Of the two from the 70s, I think so far the votes reflect my opinion that Inferno is *horribly* dated, while Poseidon Adventure has held up well over the decades (it's dated too, ofc). Of the other 3 I've seen, to me Dante's Peak was okay and Perfect Storm I did not like at all (sorry--it was Clooney's fault). Deep Impact, for all its flaws, is my fave of the five I have seen. Maybe it's Morgan? idk... (it's not young Mr. Frodo. lol) Edit: interesting that the 5 I've seen are the top 5... I only voted for 3 of 'em.

Dominick Sermeno

Survivor Poll: The Edge (snow,woods,90s), Life of Pi (Ocean, Fantastical 70s), Cast Away (Island,Ocean,90s), The Book Of Eli(Post-Apocalyptic, West America, future), The Road (Post-Apocalyptic, East America, future), First Blood(Snow, Small Town, 80s), I see a lot of other people suggests, some of these are Carly approved but some are not, I would check with community after winner to find out.

JayPeaBee

The Poseidon Adventure really needs to be considered, even though it is (sadly) currently fourth on the list. While not comedic, it is a _wonderful_ popcorn flick. The plot is simple, the sets and effects are great considering when it was made, and the actors are hammy when they need to be! And the hit song that came from it, _The Morning After_ is perfect 70s soft rock schlocky! Iā€™m glad _The Towering Inferno_ is low on the listā€¦ itā€™s too sad to watch now.

J M

Thirteen Lives is the new Apollo 13ā€¦ same director (Ron Howard) , great actors (Viggo Mortensen, Colin Ferrell & Joel Edgarton) and its a true story about a daring rescue mission that makes you really feel what they were going through. Please watch this one day even if it doesnā€™t win the poll :)

Blaze118

If you do a survivors poll, I nominate 13 hours!

Javier Hernandez

I agree this is good flick and should be on your watch list. A good add to Natural Disasters or Survivors polls.

Javier Hernandez

Yes, The Mountain Between us! Fun fact Winslet had to block the sex scene because none of the men in the room knew what they were doing. Also, if you do a "strong women in film" poll add Winslet's "The Dress Maker".

Javier Hernandez

I think Deep Impact is more character driven while Armageddon is an event driven story.

Javier Hernandez

I did enjoy The Shallows. It was a lot like The Martian in that our heroine had to solve one problem after another using her medical training.

William Bryan

If it ends this close please watch Dante's Peak. It's my second favorite natural disaster movie after Volcano(Tommy Lee Jones)

Larry Darrell

Pretty sure she has stated that she is watching the Top 3, and making a Theme week out them.

zynjams

The perfect storm is so sad it gave me anxiety. No reason to watch that movie ever again

zynjams

Thatā€™s because there are folks here that want to watch Cassie live in pain, kind of like the guys that watch you eat a hot pepper. Than laugh

William Bryan

Idk what people's obsession with The Perfect Storm is. It got so much freaking hype before it came out back in the summer of 2000. I remember being at summer camp, so excited and other campers and counselors talking about it. Saw it in theaters the weekend after I got back and was like WTF!! UGH

William Bryan

For my money the best film to come out in 2000 was What Lies Beneath and it's not even close. Cassie you have to watch that one in Oct.

Yep seems only fitting to watch that movie seeing that itā€™s the 10 year anniversary of the actual events, and with the wildfires going on in Canada right now. Keep the men and women fighting those fires in your prayers.

War of the Worlds. The Road, great survivor stories.

RandyCC

Two versions of War of the Worlds worth watching... the original "The War of the Worlds (1953)" staring Gene Barry and "War of the Worlds (2005)" with Tom Cruise.

Shawn E Mercado

Greenland is better than all of those IMO. It feels so real

Luke Godfrey

Gutted to see Danteā€™s Peak is currently third. Fingers crossed Cassie decided to watch it too given how close the numbers are. Perfect Storm is ok but nowhere near as good as Danteā€™s Peak in my opinion. Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton vs a volcano. Need I say more!

Braeden Chappell

I think it's a matter of being a true story, and a tragic and sad one at that. The film could have been a lot better, the book certainly is, but I still think it's important to bring attention to the events that transpired.

MatthewBrown74m

I love dantes Inferno because my father did the camera work on it šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

Dante's Peak - or how I learned to stop worrying and fall in love with Pierce Brosnans Suburban

Jimmy Reyes

I just realized Armageddon wasn't on list . Was it something you watched already?

Jimmy Reyes

The scenario to the movie Volcano is more frightening than Dante's Peak. For future disaster movie polls. It'll freak you out Cassie how that Volcano is formed.
