lets fucking goo

Conis dad surviving kind of was a bit lame. Don’t worry the show gets more and more intense later on. Next arc is going to be your favorite up to this point guaranteed. The next arc is in my top 5 arcs of One Piece. Keep it up!

ALTOZE

yeah Conis dad for sure should’ve died but I told myself now that I’m caught up with One Piece, not to ever doubt the 🐐 EIICHIRO ODA 😅

Emil Yi

It never comes up in the anime after this, only the manga cover stories. Enel goes to the moon. Yes he is alive to this very day. Any other details are possible spoilers for the end game lore so you'll have to read it later on. Also, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ARC. One of the most defining and EPIC ones in the entire series.

Amare D.

did yall seen the one piece remake

Shaide

I’m guessing Oda doesn’t like killing off characters

Strawhat Gabo

Facts the show grows up with the audience in a way and you see a lot more consequences/risk through the arcs.

Karaka

On the question Michelle asked at 9:08…. Luffy low-key is very smart, especially when it comes to battle. He thinks and adapts very quickly. The times he acts like an idiot is just him being “free spirited” in a way

LeftyBellows

Oda’s said that he doesn’t like killing people off, unless necessary. So just assume they’re alive. It’s one of the critiques people have, but it keeps things open and has the potential to use characters again. So it ends up also being a strength too.

The CulturedGentleman

The PROLOGUE of One Piece is now Finally over! At last we can get to the good stuff. The real story now begins :) Guys, buckle in. The next 3? 4? 5? arcs are gonna be some of your absolute favorites. I know the next major arc is my #1 ranked arc in all anime. This is now where One Piece separates itself from every other anime in terms of writing for me. Oda is a fuckin LEGEND!

The CulturedGentleman

Ron, Careful what u wish for man...Oda has been heavily criticized by not killing characters when they should be dead...but he does kill characters when he means to. There is definitely death in One Piece. It gets more prevalent as the story gets more serious, which it definitely does as you will experience going forward.

100Rainy

So you might know this already but just in case, there's a highly recommended filler arc following the end of Skypiea. It's widely regarded as one of the very rare occasions where filler can be on par with canon material, in some cases even better than canon. I think many would appreciate if you at least gave the first few episodes a try. As for the next canon arc, I've already said my opinion in the last OP post. In short, it's a super brief canon arc that simply feels like filler. As people have mentioned before, there are ways to approach this arc that make it a little less of a chore to watch. I hope you both consider exploring those options instead of skipping the arc entirely.

The CulturedGentleman

Ok 3rd comment lol...ODA created One Piece to be a family friendly anime meant to be enjoyed by all ages so I think that is the reason why he always makes them come back when they obviously should be dead. Thats why the characters look so goofy sometimes, also why there is so much dumb humor in the story. At the same time, he clearly wanted to bring to light various issues so the story gets really serious at times. So the result is a story that gets really lighthearted and crazy fun at one point, then dark, savage and serious the next. It gives you a rollercoaster of emotions, and that for me is the biggest reason why its widely considered the best anime to date by alot of people.

Shaide

Yeah I could imagine the criticism but yeah still my top 1

hurryupmode

daaang bloodthirstyyyyyy~ lol

TheRealN

Vearth is just earth so when he says endless Vearth he just talking about earth itself

Faiz

It really sucks that they skip openings and only watch em once. Only true one piece fans have memorised the lyrics to our national anthem “we are” and sings it everytime the tune plays

koza

I felt the same way , but oda-sensei does have a reason for doing what he does. The anime does get more intense tho.

Joemar Villalon

Luffy doesn’t kill his opponents he knocks them out and shuts down their dreams.

jiwon330

Luffy's shadow in the clouds is an important part of the show, so don't forget it.

jiwon330

and prewatched wtf LMAO ㅋㅋㅋ

Shomy21

I hope you will watch the next arc the filler one

Reagan

I know most all feel the same way--more characters should die (but for really reals ;)

jeremychavez

Ron get used to un answered questions, im twenty years deep into this show AND I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS even after various rewatches. The poneglyphs are a huge factor in the coming plot, you are right about that, don't be to disheartened about the things you do not know yet, most of your questions WILL get answered with time its just gonna take y'all buckling in and getting through these arcs. Im caught up in the anime ( ep 1115) with the weekly releases, and things even this far back are referenced and brought back up throughout the story.

No Remorse

I believe Oda is a master story teller. And yea he said he doesn't LIKE killing characters

JustRojo

If y’all want a logical/fictional explanation to get past Pagaya being alive, this is the most “believable” one i can give you get ready okay so when Eneru struck Pagaya with lightning, he was standing on Vearth (the ground), and the impact made Pagaya lose consciousness and fall off the Vearth into the milky clouds below. So lets’ just imagine that these clouds are “special” or have some sort of unique properties, so the electrical discharge moved freely through the clouds, becoming spread out and so it didnt’ all accumulate together and wasnt’ as concentrated of an attack. Because the charge from Eneru’s attack was dispersed over a larger area, similar to how a lightning rod works. The “special” clouds neutralized the charge from Eneru’s attack, and pagaya lives, the end.🫡😎

I do not agree; to me, it looks more like the whole thing up until the most recent finished arc is a One Piece prologue. But I enjoyed it from the first episode. I have seen some people who started to enjoy it after Alabasta, some after other arcs... It's a matter of taste. To say that the good stuff starts now is to create expectations that may not actually be fulfilled, because their perspective can be different from yours.

Guys, please do not skip any canon material just because people say it is bad. If it is filler, you can skip it if you want, but if it is canon, you NEED to watch it because Oda always uses his canon material and characters again in the future somehow. One more thing, Oda loves comedy and fun stuff, so most of One Piece has one foot in the comedy side and the other in the serious and mysterious side. Because of this, there will be a lot of gags and goofy stuff created to make people laugh and not be taken too seriously. Keeping this in mind could help you digest some content in One Piece and enjoy it better.

Geno Montez

WTF! Rewatching that Eneru Amaru scene is crazy. I never realized that

taymone

Oda is very particular about who he kills off in this story. Killing Conis' father wouldnt have added anything to the overall story

Kevin Depoppe

to ron skypea arc released in 2002-2003 so it's already 22 years ago xD the manga started in 1997 and the anime in 1999 .

Alucard

It only gets better and better from here friends <3

David Barron

Speaking of good vs boring One Piece arcs... there are two mini arcs between the next major arc. I think it's very funny that while one of them is technically filler it's one of the most loved mini arcs, while the other technically not filler is arguably the most hated. I know it's been said like 500 times by now, but I don't think y'all should skip the next mini arc, it really helps build character background for the following major arc.

FabledJarl

The way I justify the people living in Skypia is that Enel uses volts to power his attacks, but it’s the amperage that kills not the volts. But yeah Oda is very bad about fake out deaths.

FabledJarl

Also, I know the next arc is filler but you guys need to watch it! It’s the G8 arc and Oda himself loves it.

Adrien AURY

At which point is needed the switch to one pace ? I know next canon arc contains some semi filler so is it the right place ?

SomeoneElse

Gold Roger announcing the existence of the One Piece before his execution and being celebrated for it and revered as a legend, and Noland claiming the city of gold is real before his execution only to be met with hatred and being revered as a liar... I'm glad Ron noticed the similarity (and yet stark difference) between Noland and Roger! A lot of theory crafters have talked about those scenes over the years

Usher

Ok the foreshadowing is much crazier than I thought🤯 And I'm not talking about the obvious stuff

NightingGale 496

A while back, I saw a comment that went like this: "Oda doesn't usually kill off his characters but when he does, you'll be begging him not to." For the next few filler episodes, you can try doing a poll and see where it goes from there. Also, PEAK ARC INCOMING!

101mavrik

Guys he said the word "safe" 😂😂

101mavrik

Probably time skip. Don't think they will be watching fillers.

Usher

There's not even a trailer yet. Just designs and concept arts Unless you're referring to knowing it exists, which I'm pretty sure they do lol

Miguel Nobre

Yall should read the cover stories for Enel it's actually pretty dope and important, I never understood why the anime didn't adapt the cover stories

Mu Nanyo

Welcome to Oda fakeout deaths. Its one of my biggest gripes with his writing. When major characters do die though, it hurts. Namis mom crushed me.

StarBoi

now my 1 of favorite arc is coming!!!!

Michael H

One Piece is probably my favorite anime, but can you imagine a One Piece where characters actually died when they died? What a show that would be… Oda’s borderline pathological refusal to kill his characters really can throw you out of the story temporarily. Alabasta will forever hold the crown of fake-out deaths with Pell, but Skypeia’s fake-outs unfortunately really diminish its main villain. I mean, the guy was truly trying to kill everyone he attacked, yet he couldn’t even injure an apologetic, elderly civilian enough to keep him from partying around a campfire a few hours later. Eh, oh well, the next like 300 episodes are fire, so we can let it slide.

Emmanuel Cordial

Now Skypia is over, be ready for incoming arcs. Arcs that really solidify why One Piece is number 1 for me.

Gjermund Norum Bugge

The deaths not happening is a super fair criticism that pretty much everyone agree with. You will experience in this show that everyone is not safe tho, You will see. Also! You should check out the cover Story about Enel. There is a vid on youtube showing it off. It is not included in the anime, so imo it is pretty important to read it ♥️🥳

Whoopsie

Very curious how yall decide to do the filler or upcoming arc after that and If you choose to do One pace. The filler arc is one of the best fillers I've seen in any series but no worries if you skip. The arc after is generally considered a "bad" arc but honestly there really isn't any bad or terrible arcs for me in OP filler or Canon. I think it's just that it's right next to an arc everyone wants you to rush to

BashaM

Luffy's shape in the sky has always been one of my favourite moments. And the brief image of Noland and Calgara during the celebrating bonfire, after the bell was rung, had me believe that finally their spirits found their way back to Jaya/Upper Yard, and were together again ❤️ Oda not killing the characters has 2 major consequences: 1. It allows the potential return of characters in the future 2. When Oda does kill characters, you end up devastated. Oda has a special talent in writing characters' death. Believe me, we are all happy he doesn't use this talent too often 😂

Noizon

i highly disagree you dont need to kill characters off for a good story, cause when the accident happend you still felt the whole rollercoaster... so bringing the character back doesnt change how you felt at that moment

Meggido

You wont feel the disaster when everytimes the characters survive, the death in a story can be THE best thing for a character and his devellopement, Oda not killing every character make the story less enjoyable at a point where you know that everything will be ok whatever the danger, just look at the recent arc in the manga it's boring to see no consequence every times. ( sorry for my bad eng btw )

David

character guessing score: Michelle 1000: Ron: 1

David

Yes. The rollercoaster is good the first time. But if every time a character is in mortal danger, you know the character will survive because the author always writes it that way, it diminishes the rollercoaster each of the following times, to a point where eventually you no longer feel that rollercoaster, because you know the ending every time: they always live. The thrill and desperation of wanting a character to survive a grave ordeal can only happen when you know that it really could be their last breath.

Christina H.

Oda has said that the reason he doesn't draw scenes where people die is because he wants to draw a party after a battle and if someone dies you can't have an enjoyable party afterwards. To him a party is his ideal form of friendship. However I will say that it's not like there are no risks in one piece it just makes it so much more impactful when a character does end up dead and you're left in tears because of their death...

Revolution To Evolution

Luffy literally said "I came in like a wrecking ball !!!!😤😫😫"

Revolution To Evolution

Eneru is a devil fruit eater, so if he fell in the sky sea, he sank and drowned right?

Revolution To Evolution

HAHAHAHA Eneru's attacks were weak as F, everyone survives 🤣🤣🤣 He deserved that tbh.

MARMAR

Its a bit cruel how some impactful deaths are undercut by a random reappearance of the character and it occasionally takes the wind out of the sails so to speak

Abtist

One Piece, where no one ever dies. Until they finally do and you want to die with them

Hector Tavares

16:51 Michelle: "...And he's going to ring the bell." Ron: "With his ass!" Me: laughing for the next 2 minutes, having to pause the video so I don't miss this epic moment

Hector Tavares

My theory for why no one died is that Enel was lying about the voltage of his attacks. He claimed it was in the millions of volts, but in reality, it was just a max of 110V, like a powerful electrical outlet shock I’m not a fan of this "no one dies" thing either, but I have to admit, the way they brought Conis' dad back was pretty funny Love you all!!!

Rui Duarte

Its crazy how Oda 1000 eps after have references to this episode

EnzoTorales

This is so fucking iconic looking back man especially after what happens in the recent arcs 😭🥹

EnzoTorales

Believe me guys enjoy this no one dies in this show while you can 😥

Miguel Nobre

No way you just said that about the recent arc in the manga,I don't wanna spoil nothing but everybody that's reading the manga knows that's not true at all

Vjong Trias

He’s going to the moon.

Rob

So Eneru is basically lightning Usopp !

Ji Han

It's true that in one piece there is always a happy ending and no one dies. So when we as the audience accept the setting thinking that everything will eventually end well, the sudden loss will seem even sadder when it happens.

Phyllis

You do not want to wish for deaths in One Piece. Many have, and ...

Parmvir Dhugha

I would say skypia is the last arc that doesn’t take that risk. Both Pell in Alabasta and these guys in skypia should have died. And I remembered being annoyed when I first saw that. But it never feels like that again.

Ghedo

There arent many criticisms for Oda´s writing and rightfully so. the man cooked up the best story in any Anime. But one thing he needs to do better is deaths, this Wolrd is so cruel and unforgiving but suprisingly not many important characters ever die. Pell is a different story because the chapter came out close to 9/11 so Oda´s Editor told him it would be better if Pell lives.

CTRL

❤️Love next arc G8. I hope they watch it 🤞

Ronahi S.

I think One Piece is flawed in lots of ways, but the death thing is by far the worst. It takes away every ounce of tension which really decreases the enjoyment for me.

A little rant here... to be honest with you I wanted Pell the falcon to have died, the father of Conis to die and most importantly Merry who got cut up to have died. But for the last one they fixed that in the live action and I also wish they would fix all of these deaths in the live action too. It seriously diminishes the sacrifice that was suppose to have happened and the bravery that was shown because at the end it really was all for nothing since they lived anyway.
